also, just tried the latest podium installer and yeah, it still messes things up.. half my rubys disappeared after running the installer.

This really upsets/ annoys me. I almost feel like calling on a boycott of Podium until the developers address and sort this problem out, properly. There should never be an installer anyway- it's one of the prime reasons why I bought a Mac, because I like to know what is being installed, and where. I still have issues with BoolTools. The tools are finally showing up on screen, but the ruby still refuses to work. The same goes with the layer manager tool. No success there either.

It's a great big mess, and no single developer wants to take responsibility. 😑

      Dale,

I've got the same problem- but not necessarily with the SDS plug (I paid for one that said it was Mac friendly, but it never worked)- and all of this after Podium (who still haven't fixed the 'problem' 😠 ). I wonder if there is something else we are missing- like a hidden folder or something? I suppose the only people who would have the answer, is Podium themselves (who look like, are too busy blaming Apple and Google! 😲 )

      Hello Barbara.

Are you opposed to updating or something? You may find that updating will cure many of your problems you are currently having. I would for a start, try and get a Leopard installer disc first- on eBay? The graphics for starters work far better on Leopard than they did with Tiger. And why not get the latest version of SU too? It would seem rather silly not to? πŸ˜„

It is a good idea to leave out [or delete] any faces that are on the 'hidden' ends or sides of objects that will never be seen - however, how's SUp going to know which is which ? It's down to you to do some work and simple go round and tidy up, I'm afraid... 😞

Yes, I had a feeling that may be the answer!

I suppose what I meant is a way of deleting faces in one group, that lie directly against any face in another group. Perhaps I just need to pay more attention to this in future? πŸ˜„

Thom, I didn't mean to confuse you, but when using other software such as Studio Max or Cheetah, a texture can be applied to a face, but when that face is inverted, it disappears completely, whereas in SketchUp, the reverse face either carries the same image, or is grey (as opposed to white). One of my tutors refused to work with SketchUp, precisely because of this. He said that in his experiments, it increased the model size (in mb's). He may of course, been wrong?

    • Unwanted faces plugin?

Is there a plugin that gets rid of unwanted, or hidden faces? My model is 16mb in size. I'd love to make it smaller.

The one thing I've found with SU, is that it don't half deliver a load of double normals- ie normals that have a face on the rear, the unwanted, unseen side. Can these be eliminated also?

Those capitals are STUNNING! I'm so impressed with your attention to detail. How long did it take you to do this model? How about the capitals too? What was your approach to working on the details?

Wow Paul! I'm well impressed! 😲

      Fantastic work!

This is what I'm up to, but my 'efforts' are, well efforts!! You have really inspired me now to render my design (something I hadn't planned).

Hey chaps! Thanks for the nice kind words! πŸ˜„

Paul Russam? Wow!! OMG!!!! Those are STUNNING!! 😎 😎 😎

I did another live 'visualisation' last night to other Parish members. The plan is to eventually get the model onto Google, for everyone to enjoy. I must say that Aidan Chopra's video tutorials played a major part in the learning process (also having a degree in CAD also helps! πŸ˜‰ )

      It should be pointed out, that I also used an application called QCad for the initial 2D layouts. All of these had to be made from measuring from 1:100 scaled hand drawings too. Here's another 'exploded' shot (it's got Sang, (who gets around a lot eh? πŸ˜‰ ) in it this time!) ;

SU seemed to randomly push a face across something but not leave the original face.

Have you tried pressing ctrl (or alt for Mac), before using the push/pull tool? This fixes this problem (if it's the problem I think you mean?)

    • RE: Rounded corner solid from AutoCAD not looking so well

Glenn, have you tried ViaCAD 2D/3D also? It only costs $99, and is ACIS based, so works well with the 3D section of ACAD. This may be a better solution. SketchUp I find, works better with 2D imports.

    • Yo all! Greetings from this place called Brum!

Hey! Yo fellow Sketchupians. Thought it was about time I said "hello" properly.

      Hello!

I've been using SU for about a 2 months or so now. I'm hooked! Anyway, here's a screenshot of the church interior I've been working on. It's Coleshill Parish Church in erm... Coleshill, West Midlands, in the UK! I didn't model the vicar (no offence to anyone, especially Coleshill Parish, but the only model of a vicar I could find was Father Dougal!!!!) I didn't model the toilets/ kitchen bits/ fittings either, but everything else was pretty much by me (including the bad door handles). I haven't done any rendering here yet, because there, at the moment isn't any need for it (too little time, mainly). I will also be uploading this one to the 3D warehouse fairly soon, so everyone else can enjoy it too!

The capitals were a nightmare to design/make, so I'll post up a little tutorial when I get a moment. But they took forever!

      Any comments appreciated!

      Tom Fenn

    • RE: Rounded corner solid from AutoCAD not looking so well

Glenn, it looks like not all of those lines are straight- ie the resolution in ACAD may be set too high. It may also be better to import the solids without the fillets on the edges, and then do those in SU (there's a good plug in for that floating around out there). Sorry for not being more specific, I'm having a bad memory day 😳

Full Screen Mode. (Without scene buttons in the way at the top too).

With the ability to split off the full screen to another monitor (if your PC supports that). This would be great for presentations (as I found out yesterday!).

Another handy feature would to be able to instruct SU, which way the camera swings when moving from scene to scene, because at the moment it predicts, and this can be rather vomit inducing- if you're not using a lot of transitory scenes.
