Thanks Paul, I appreciate the input. It looked like I wasn't going to get any so I tried to find reviews and and hemmed and hawed and finally decided on one that is a little bit more expensive than I wanted to go, and it got mixed reviews, but it had the features I wanted. So I went with the HP 7650. It is a flat bed scanner with an attacehd ADF that does as many as 50 sheets, including legal size. It also does photos and negatives, not tha we need that in a digital world anymore. Anyway, I hope I made a good choice. I like HP and the price I bought this one for was a good deal at CAN$445.

Well actually the schools don't give away much. They just let you take the course, but if you want credit for it then you need to pay the fee. So instead of fighting the problem headon I was trying to suggest that maybe there might be a way to redirect the forces at work. LEts say Sue had a website called "Magna Cum Laude graduates of the Sue School of Architectural Illustration". So if you are a registered graduate of the course your best work and your CV can be posted in a gallery receiving international attention. So suddenly a lot of people are sneaking into her class. However, low and behold they find they learned something and they are becoming pretty good. Now they have no doubt about their skills, they would like them seen and certified to. Since they did not pay they can not been seen on Sue's architectural rendering site. So they pay for the course retroactively and now they are part of a respected gallery/showplace. I am just suggesting there might be more to gain from channeling human nature than fighting it head on. Not sure of the validity, but am just trying to float a concept. When I hit a brick wall I always like to back off and think about more productive approaches and study elegant solutions to similar problems.

About respect for others: Eleven years ago, I moved to the South after living in the North for the first 50 years of my life. A few years after I moved, I visited friends in my former home town. At lunch, they were remarkably rude, not only to the server, but also to each other. They treated the server as a "servant;" no "please," no "Thank you," just indifference. They talked all over each other, not allowing anyone to finish a thought. I had to wonder, "Was I like that when I lived here?" I couldn't wait to get back to the South, where courtesy is the grease that lubricates almost all interactions, even though it's often false courtesy. Nevertheless, I can no longer imagine not saying please and thank you to someone who is doing me a service, no matter how small. A tip recognizes both good service and a pleasant and helpful attitude. I tip in proportion to how I am treated.

I think I would want John Williams to write a personal score for me. Something very variable to cover all manner of social and emotional situeations. Or maybe whoever it was who wrote the score for Star Trek the Next Generation. I love that score. At any rate I would want something heroic and epic. Maybe it would transform me accordingly.

Yeah, I've been playing a bit with Doyle's techniques as shown in the 3rd edition using photoshop over a SketchUp or hand-drawn base, and adding a little hand work. I'm not very facile with it yet, and haven't really had the time to spend on it that I'd like, but I do see the potential benefits of letting each tool do what it does best.
