Not a specific soup, just soup in general. I come from a European family and when I was growing up we always had soup as first course for supper. A big bowl of steaming flavourful liquid gets you pretty filled up and you have only a little room for the the heavier more fattening food that comes next. For me it also made vegetables more palatable. Vegetables become quite fattening when prepared the restaurant way, sauted in butter or with sauces. But to me, a steamed vegetable without that stuff is blah. But in a soup where the flavour melds with others and little fat and some stock and some spices go a very long way, vegetables are quite delicous and the vitamins stay right in the stock.

On all of my most succesful diets ( not recent I"m afraid) I have always used delicious bowls of soup to for dinner and even lunch to keep me full and to get my vegetable allotment.

I agree, soups are just perfect!
We even have way bigger soup plates here than the "rest of the world" (which is pretty big I'm afraid...)

Yes "We" do. Your "here" extends to my "here" so to speak.

            susan,

if you substitute a salad (lots of) for soup you get the same result. it gives one a feeling of satiation that leaves little room for villains that make you gain weight.
