Roman fort and counter-fortress are modelled by "kephalos", watchtower (in the starting scene) by me. Roman galley and soldier (as "backdrops" are from 3D Warehouse (extremely detailed models but had no time to strip them off)

100% SketchUp models (except the 3D Warehouse content which I suspect to be some imported stuff) movie rendered in Lumion - obviously trees are also Lumion - and now with particle animation (i.e. fire and smoke)

        Mighty fine work, Gaieus:
How big is the model file, or is that several files? I would have difficulty on this fossil to run a single file.

I take the slow, deliberate approach in my aimless wandering.

I haven't yet had time to try Lumion, but this software has really potential. I imagine already seeing your work on TV sooner or later!

It's more files actually. Separate file for the buildings in the fort, the walls imported separately, separate counter-fortress and separate watchtower. The soldiers and the galley were also imported separately so altogether (just the imported stuff) is pretty large. Then the added Lumion things like trees and horses (I simply put the cavalry horseman on top of a Lumion horse 😄 )

@Aerilius: indeed. To achieve this with some other software (2+ minutes at HD - although as a WIP, not exported at the highest quality) this would take weeks (if not more) on my rather mediocre machine.

Now it took a bit more than 5 hours (do not exactly know as it was rendering overnight). There are finer and nicer renderers but they would take much longer. Also important is the extreme amount of entourage.

Still some little glitches to iron out (jumpőing camera, Z-fighting here and there, too speedy galley or some weird reflections), some environmental and colour corrections, some more colour blending with AO and I am set - and yes, the final cut willbe on TV.
            😄

This is a project to promote the Danubian section of the Roman Limes (defence system) to be part of the World Heritage. A guy will be inserted in blue box technique at the end (when the camera stop at the headquarters or "praetorium") and will have something to say. So I will need to render that last clip to match his speech as there are moving things in the scene and it should not be done by simply putting him in front of a still image.

Awesome. Can you post the TV clip when it's done or is that not allowed?

                  Thanks guys...

I am not sure how to post the TV clip (and it will be in boring Hungarian, too) as whenever I contributed something or was interviewed, they never sent me the clip no matter how they promised before.

                  I'll try...

And please, don't forget that this is a collaborative movie and though I have some model in there, too, the majority was done by "Kephalos" (linked above) and I only rendered it in Lumion.

I hope that the Free Cryengine 3 is available soon (it was said it was going to be released this month). It can export/import sketchup models... Do you imagine yourself walking in these structures in real time?

                        Forgive my spanglish...
