Thanks Toby to try by your way (even if what Gaieus says give us very few chance)

Ansi you are completely right. I always draw in this grey-blue back face, which is taking the light better than white one in order to observe the shapes. But i have forgotten the rendering issue. Thanks for this yellow paper.

      Hey Rick !
Great to get a reply from you.

      @rickw said:

It "might be possible" in ruby, by going into each group/component and applying the texture to the faces inside.

I'm afraid i have to understand the same time:" It may be not possible ".

Each of us works with components to make the skp files light, save CPU, and take benefit of component's behavior.
At the end, we can't apply material and textures easily ..
Really hope this SketchUp improvement will interess you enough to work on it. 🙂simon

"..// - I have been formulating a full feature request about this /- - -/ Indeed, wrapping projected material unfortunately works only on "primitives" (raw faces and curved surfaces), not on groups/components..\

It is certainly a missing function, especially if our working method is based on converting any element as component in order to manage them (See Aidan Chopra "Modeling Smart" at 3D Basecamp).

And to close this "Summer Work", maybe it will be finding in this vast assembly some of our talented artists interested in making their way a smart rendering of it..

(something that neither I nor my poor PC are able to do.)

With hope this long work has brought some fun and learn to some,

      Dear Max,
      Clever and instructive explanation.
And certainly a very useful tool. (i have fought some time ago with that spiral shape and haven't found in this time such a tool

    • RE: PlayTime_02: Gothic Panel

      Dear Gaieus,
I made this way, with a basic circle as a group and simple lines to refer on tools craftsmen were using in those times: ruler, T-square and compass, but no measuring instruments.

I made this way in mind to walk through there footprints. And i've drawn the canvas, just close to, to shaw with fun the idea was right.
I'm going right now to be extremely accurate to made the entire carved as shown in my avatar picture...

Going now to work on the next video, Simon.

    • RE: PlayTime_02: Gothic Panel

Goodmorning sketchy fellows. Jeudi 07 Août 2008

I'm on the road again.. for the "Central Panel" summer work.

My purpose is trying to deliver here a near of day by day step by step videotut.

For today i begin slow with just the challenge presentation: those two pictures.

      http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj245/Spendauballet/BritainKiki/BritKiki_01_thumb.jpg
      _ _
      http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj245/Spendauballet/BritainKiki/BritKiki_05_thumb.jpg

As i was watching it very acurrately, i felt very surprised to discover that this panel certainly belonged to an older (very older?) furniture. Not only the different veining of the wood, but the carved work is more refined craft, and more damaged. We can therefore imagine that the entire buffet was built around this recovered sculpture. This gives it an additional price to my eyes.

If someone is tempted by the exercise, here's the needed zip pictures pack.

      Hi Mike,
It's too late for tonight, and i'm living early in the morning for 15 days without web access 😞

I have understood your clever layer use, but i'm still not understanding the animation of your just one evolutive figure.. be back in 15

      Regards simon.

    • RE: [TUTORIAL] Making holes through pipe (cylinder)

      Hi Mike,
My question is not on the making holes tut itself but rather on how you made:

      • to have those text explanations written on the bottom independantly from the animations
      • to have only one figure, evoluting from scene to scene

??? " le résultat est vraiment pas mal!!!"

      Simon.

Here is a very good post dealing with this issue

In addition, you can use with a certain advantage this PathCopy v.2.1 by Rick Wilson, whose erratic behavior and difficulty of use unfortunately slowing a little its interest. (see: Copying Along A Path _ Cycle Bridge WIP

      Pas mal pas mal!

Tu peux masquer les lignes indésirable en les selectionnant puis clic droit=menu contextuel, puis clic/masquer. Mieux vaut faire ce nettoyage à la toute fin du dessin.
