RE: REQ: For VRAY users, Material Grabber ===>
Thanx, now you have a challenge lol
I mean, this program is all cool, but it sometimes is a drag re mapping materials ect when you move fro mone computer to another. This plugin coud be really useful. Anyone got a better idea how to go, feel free to speak. I love what Vue again do, when you save, there is a tick ,icorporate textures. That makes the file bigger, but stores all the data in the file. If you look again at sketchups structure, in a way...does sketchup store its textures on the model. It would be great if vray and su communicate better, when you move from pc to pc. -
REQ: For VRAY users, Material Grabber ===>
Hi there, i want to know if its possible, to make me a rubie like get bump. See Vray works like this, if i set up my materials on one machine, and go home, i need to re apply all the bumps because its now not linked anymore to my works server.
Now here is what id like.
A command that says get material, that will grab all the textures linked all over the place, even bumps and displacement maps, and then a button dump material )like the silvershadows export all materials ( and save it to a file.See i can make it work, by just copying the file, take it home and use my silvershadow export materials and it will work perfect, but its missing the bump files.
So i just thought it would be great to have a tool that can grab all linked materials and dump it in one lacation -
RE: Question about adding details?
nice start
Good thing you could look at is components. I can have an object that is 10mb big, make a component of it and put it in the scene a couple of times. You will notice the file size stays still low. So best to take the model, cut it in 2, make a component of it, and flip it. Sketchup can take quite a punch in polygons, but will slow down your work on the model quite heavily. I recently made a model, over 2 million poly count and su still go fine. If your model get too slow, copy the part out you want to detail up into a new drawing and paste in place. Work it up and just copy it back to your model. By this method it will allow you to work on a complex model easier.
Hope this helps -
RE: Gaming discussions
I have looked at a rock and it was just mindblowing. I would understand if a nicely detailed thing is nice and would be used all over the game, but it is unique, every single thing. Ok so if you would say someone would uv map a unique mountain piece where your game happens, with unique textures blending into each other, then it will end up using one huuuuge texture to work on the scene. and not to loose any detail on that specific texture, it need to be even bigger. I play my game and constant moan saying this is soooo unfair, why cant i do this. It seems soooo effortless and easy. Thats why i got so facinated how the mechanics behind this works. i just started wondering..how can it be done. Is there maybe a way to build a model, without the need of rendering it?

Gaming discussions
Hi there guys
I am just wondering somthing when i was playing a xbox game and stopped and looked for a second, woow, how is this done.
I am just curious how this is done. The thing i was looking at was just how fantastically quick game can handle a lot of information so easily, work with displacements and bumps, real time reflections ect. And the amount of textures and info it can process, amazing.
Now i know a lot of gaming platforms have say an unreal engine rendering this for them, but how does this work? Why dont normal 3d applications do not use this type of technology even for the simple things? How come something simple in 3d applications, no matter what program are using sometimes struggle when exceeding 1000 000 poly count, surely they have a lot more than that in a scene of a game? I am so facinated about this and still struggle to think how this is possible. If one would say but yea, ok we aure using normal maps a lot to make detail pop, but im still blown away. If someone want to talk about this, id love to read it. I kinda think it has to do with not realy rendering environments in a game, but sort of have it as a raw model that just looks awesome. Kinda seems logical. I was looking at thomb raider underworld. -
Something interesting
Hi guys, found this interesting thing, i know its quite old...maybe i was just sleeping lol
but it is to take a photo, even if its scew, and select it and apply it correctly in your model. It really works well and is quite usefull if you want to do a couple of background buildings, slap a couple of jpgs on it ecthttp://research.graphicon.ru/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=85
have fun

[REQ] POLY SIMPLIFIER
Hi guys..i just want to know...
is there a possibility to create a rubie to reduce poly count on an object, but you can set it...like if you draw a circle, you can make it 12 segments..but afterwards make it lower. Also there is a rubie that makes high poly contours less (simplify contours)
so this is the request...
Say you build something... organic i suppose, and afterwards you realise its 4 mb big.. but you only want 1mb, so instead of rebuilding the model...to use this plugin, where it checks like the simplify contours, closest faces and merge them to make it a lower poly model.I would really really really want this

RE: Skyscraper001
brilliant! I start to think that max 9 is really awesome...seen some stuff that came out of there, made in Su. I think it got a lot to do with the artist, and to me you did a fine job in there. In the end, your tools are only as good as the person using it, well done, really cool stuff

RE: SKETCHUP DISPLAY PROBLEMS
yea got a 8800gtx card, got also an intelli mouse. Yea here in SA is this the most common thing in the shops...so we just grab that. But 90% of the time its fine...then one day just come and it gives you this...kinda funny..never ever happened to me till one day...boom. su 7 do the same thing. Havent check my home pc but office wise it looks like it might be only here, thanx will have a look at that

How can it be fixed? I re installed dot net fx, but still the same thing. I just want to know what causes this problem, so i can know in future why it is doing it.

RE: Silvershadows eye candy 2 : BLACK HAWK
I will try to be more clearer on how stuff was made in the next candy, of course i will not cover all the elements, some of that will be basic modelling, but i will try to do a couple

RE: Silvershadows eye candy 2 : BLACK HAWK
our firm is thinking of getting it this week so ill be moving over to su 07 then

RE: Silvershadows eye candy 2 : BLACK HAWK
Hi there pippo. You asked if this was done is su only. The answer is yes, the inithail adiea is to see how far su can bend to take hit after hit till its folds. Candy 3 would be the same thing. Pushing su more and more. Since i do not have su 7 yet, ill still bench stress test su 6 for a while
