Whaat,
Is there any news on this amazing looking plug in yet?
Scott
Pete,
I can not see anything there. It only brings up the imageshack page. Any other information?
Scott
I have heard people talking about Whaat's "smooth and divide" script. Can anyone tell me more about this script or point me to where I can get this script?
Scott
Mike,
It is an idea I have had for a while. This way I do not have to carry a laptop to every meeting. The player has to be fairly easy to use as well. I do not want a client getting frustrated if the player does not work as expected. Thanks for the input. I think today I will be going to make a decision and pick one up. I will let everyone know what I find.
Scott
no not bad food...we have a maggianos not far from the house and there is nothing bad there!
Scott
Remus,
Thanks for your input. The Archos is cheaper than the touch also.
Anyone else?
Scott
I am in the market for a handheld movie player. I want something small I can take to a clients office and play an animation on or show still images on. Currently I am looking at these:
Ipod touch 16gb
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?nnmm=browse&node=home/shop_ipod/family/ipod_touch
Archos 605 wifi 160gb
http://www.archos.com/products/gen_5/archos_605wifi/index.html?country=global&lang=en
Epson p-3000
http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/consumer/consDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&oid=63061067
I am not so much worried about price, I am more worried about quality. I do not want a portable dvd player due to having to burn dvds all the time.
I am just looking for some thoughts on what people might think would be best for this type of thing.
Scott
Pete,
Really nice. Without some people it looks a bit lonely though.
Scott
Kevin,
Try using the neon glass shader for your windows. It is far more believeable but takes a bit longer to render. As far as render speeds go I agree it is slower but the best thing I can tell you is max out your RAM for still images and max sure you have the biggest video card you can afford before you even think of using animated poser models. The new sky generator makes this the best version yet. No more having to photoshop in a good looking sky.
I will be rendering more over the weekend. Hopefully I will be able to post more.
Scott
Multi light is what sold me without a doubt.
Scott
Kevin,
Glad to see someone else is on this forum besides me.
Nice image. maybe some closer shots would be cool too. Also what shader are you using on your glass? It looks a bit flat.
Scott
The low quality of the trees is killing this image. I would also zoom in farther. You do not need to see so much water to get the idea that this is a waterfront home. That is my opinion.
Scott
Overall it is a good render.
Stinkie,
I do agree with you on some points. Maxwell by far is one of the best renderers out there and I do not think anyone will argue that..BUT...waiting as long as you have to for a great render to finish will not always work. I think to be a great artist you have to have many different tools in your bag. I currently use:
Sketchup (of course)
Cinema 4D
Vray
Maxwell
3d max 2008
Artlantis 2
All of these are used regularly but for different reasons. I think all of them are very good but all of them definately have draw backs as well. It all depends on the job, what the customer is expecting, and how much time you have. I think right now Arltantis is a great mix of quality and speed. While it may not be as good as Maxwell or Vray, I still think that the vast majority of clients will be very happy with the results. Then with the time saved I can be working on other projects. It is a comprimise and it all depends on the job.

This image has been moved to the Artlantis Forum here:

The site has been down for quite a few days now. Not sure why but I am hoping it will come back up soon. It would not be a first for Abvent.....
Scott
Stinkie,
Wait for their site to come back online. Most of what you are seeing as far as googled images are from older versions of artlantis. The new version is hands down better than the previous.
Scott
I also wanted to add that there is now a Artlantis forum:
I asked for this to be added and Coen and the guys were nice enough to add this. I will be trying to contribute to this forum more and more as I get more done. Please try to add to this forum so we can keep it alive.
Scott
Thanks everyone for your comments. These were not as good as I would have wanted but that is what happens when it is a very tight deadline. I had a week to do a animation of 3 floors and a total of 500 cubicles plus 24 rendered images. All work was done for Knoll directly. They did love it so my fingers are crossed for more work!
Scott
I did an upgrade from Studio 1.2 for $500. I think photrealism is very possible but as with any renderer it all depends on what is put into it. Good textures and time setting up a good lighting rig always help. I will be posting more as I play with artlantis 2 more.
Some new features are:
Sky generator
Poser import (supports animated people)
exposure controls (exposure, grain, etc.)
Global illumination (really nice too)
that is just some of what is new. I have not tried the animated people yet. I just bought poser 7 for this reason as well, but now need to learn that as well. Hopefully soon I can show some more renders and possibly some animations with animated poser content.
Thanks for all the comments.
Pete,
Yes, this is a render that I typically use to do testing in different renderers. This is just a few of many variations. Thanks for the comments.
Lastly, If anyone can afford it I would suggest looking at Artlatis 2. It is really stable and renders quickly (last render was less that 5 minutes at 2400 pixels wide. Check out their site to see many more great renders.
Best regards,
Scott
