I have a bit of an odd issue where, working with geometry, if I single click I can select an individual line or face, if I double click I can select a face and its lines but if I triple click it no longer selects all the geometry. I've tried multiple click combinations and even adjusted the mouse click speed but no joy.
I used the be able to triple click and be able to select all the geometry but now can't do so - it makes selecting very trick.
Anyone else had the same problem or any ideas on a solution. I have auto detect set in the click style prefs.

Extended Colour By Layer
Hi all,
Im wondering if there is any way of extending the functionality of the colour by layer feature of Sketchup. I use a lot of pre-made components and generally build layers into these components to make organising my drawings quicker and easier. The issue with this is that when I want to use colour by layer I end up having to do a lot of tweaking of layer colours to get things looking / working right.Colour by layer seems to work by looking for the lowest level of layer in a component. Is there any way of reversing this so that it looks for the highest level in the layer hierarchy?
Ive put a simple example below:
Lets say I made a bike and put the various parts on different layers as below:
Group of all bike parts - on layer 'Bike' - RED
Handlebars - on layer 'Handlebars' - GREEN
Frame - on layer 'Frame' - YELLOW
Wheels - on layer 'Wheels' - BLUEAt the moment when I do clour by layer it will ignore the fact that the grouped bike parts have been put on the layer 'Bike' and will show the wheels in blue, the frame in yellow and the handlebars in green. The only way I can get the whole bike to appear in red is to change the layer colour properties of the layers Handlebars, Frame and Wheels to be RED.
I'd like to know if there is a way to make colour by layer show the colour of the highest level layer and display its colour for all the objects on that layer - regardless of the colour properties of the other layers below them in the layer hierarchy. In this instance Id like the whole bike to appear red in colour by layer mode and not have to change the lower level layers' colours.
Alternatively is there any way of doing 'colour by group' as a style?
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks

RE: Save selected components - but NOT nested components
Thanks driven, will give it a try but I think this still means saving each assembly one by one. I'd like to find a way to save multiple components at a time. Will try tomorrow.
Cheers

RE: Save selected components - but NOT nested components
slbaumgartner : if you go into components and click on the home view. Click on a components in the home lib and then click the edit tab and you can see the location that the comp is ref'd from. See attached (on the mid right) where it says 'loaded from'...

RE: Save selected components - but NOT nested components
Just tested and the link to the nested component is definitely retained. You can edit components and then reload them to see the changes implemented. I have some large component libs that I pull from. I can make updates to nestede components individually, reload them and see the changes reflected in my model.
Any ideas anyone on how to save several selected components (assemblies of other components) down without moving the link to the nested components to the new folder or having to individually save?
Any help very much appreciated as always....

Save selected components - but NOT nested components
Hi all,
I've been searching for a plugin / script / method to allow me to save selected components (plural) into a folder but not save the nested components that make them up into the same library file (therefore not breaking the link to the folder the nested components are pulled from). Does anyone know of a way to do this. Essentially I want to be able to select multiple components in a model and save them as a collection without saving the sub components into the same library. At the moment the only way I have found to do this is to select each assembly in the the sketchup file and save them down individually. If I save as a local collection it pulls all of the nested components into the same folder and breaks the link to the original folder. I want to avoid saving individual components one by one but only save the combined component - NOT its nested components.
I can explain further if my description isn't clear enough.
Thanks for any help people can provide.
Cheers

In a good way! Thought this sounded a little negative. Inteloide helped me out a lot with the BOM plugin... for the record!

RE: Sketchup crashes when moving objects
Thanks all for your responses. Will run SU for the rest of the day and see if it resolves the crashes and will then contact Inteloid. Been in touch with him a few times regarding BOM plugin.

RE: Sketchup crashes when moving objects
No - but there is one that I added recently (Bill Of Materials - BG Sketchup). Have just tried disabling it to see if I still get the crashes....
Thanks Dave R - will keep an eye on it. Am I able to give the plugin author any info relating to the crashes? The components are ones I have made myself but I have been using them for a long time (5 - 6 years) and have never had any problems with them before.

RE: Sketchup crashes when moving objects
Sorry if this is a stupid question but how can I check if the problem is with a plugin?
Im moving components when the crashes happen, sometime within groups sometimes groups of components, sometimes just components on their own. Crashes seem pretty indescrimimate.
Will capture a crash log next time I get one...

Sketchup crashes when moving objects
Hi,
Im having some problems with SU crashing when moving items. Cant see any pattern - just seems to crash when moving an item. Seem to get this with every file and it happens several times a day.
Anyone else had this or know of a solution?
Thanks

Resetting Page Numbers
Hi,
Does anyone know how to reset the page numbers in LO. Whenever I delete a page and then go to add another the page numbers dont reset. If I have a 5 page doc and delete a page the next page I make carries the the sequence on rather than seeing how many actual pages there are in the doc and counting in that order.Eg
If I delete pages 2, 3, 4, 5 from my 5 page doc and then make a new page the next page is numbered 6 where it should be 2 (as this is the next page in the sequence based on how many pages there ARE in the doc and not how many pages there have been in the doc). Just to be clear this issue refers to the pages window and not to the AutoText feature which does see the pages in true number order based on how many pages there ARE in the doc.Does anyone know how to reset the way the pages are named (in the pages window of the dialog box tray) based on the current pages in the doc. Its a small issue but I find this view of the page numbers useful as you don't have to zoom in to see what page you are on.
Thanks

RE: [Plugin] Very fast texture writer
Hi,
Great plugin - thanks! Always amazed by the fantastic plugins that you can find on sketchucation! Thank you...!
I like AcesHigh's point about material names - would be a handy feature but even without this plugin will come in very handy.

RE: Shadows on ground
Cant seem to replicate the problem in a new file!?! It persists in the file I had the original issue with so it must be something to do with working on an older file.
Think I'll have to reload the SU file and replace the views that are in there at the moment.
Thanks anyway.

Shadows on ground
Hi All,
Have just started using my trial of SU and LO 2015. Just wonder if anyone has come across this issue. I have set some scenes up with shadows on but not on the ground. When I view these scenes in SU the shadows appear correctly but when I put the scenes into LO with shadows on they are on the ground layer. This happens regardless of what style I pick and whether the scene is rendered in Raster, Vector or Hybrid.
Any help appreciated....
Thanks

Different Page Orientations and Sizes
It would be great if you could set up a document containing different page sizes and orientations - I know its possible to combine several PDFs together but it means having a lot more Layout files to manage and makes re-processing documents tricky...
Is this possible? It could tie in nicely with my post / request on exporting PDFs that reference the <PageName> ....http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=13%26amp;t=59068
(nudge nudge)

Layout Page Name Export
Have posted about this beofre but I REALLY hope this is a feature of the next version of LO. Am loving being able to define AutoText in LO and hope that in the next version PDFs can be exported as either multi page docs or as single pages where the PDF file name either references the LO doc name and page number or doc name and page name. Plenty of other CAD packages have this feature and it makes error free document management quick easy and intuitive.
I know there are work arounds for this but if you have a 20 to 30 page doc that is being changed on a regular basis, having to strip the pages out and rename them to follow the format of the text in the PDF is a pain and often leads to formatting, spelling or numbering errors. If you only have to put the text in once and can have LO reference it you only need to check on element in the document. -
RE: [GRANTED]Programmable <AutoText> + Labels = Joyful AutoLabel
This would be fantastic TommyK. I also really hope that LO moves towards giving users the ability to write scripts and create plugins.
I especially like the Focus drop down to select in LO what level of the nested / grouped part you want to get information on. Its frustrating that LO currently alwasy selects the part that is furthest into the nest.
