That's what components are for, anything repeated (or mirrored) make a component and reuse it.

Thanks for image. Did you use intersect with model when you finished placing of the component?

What I said is, that If I use Round corners, there will be some deformations in the whole. So you need to separate into 4 pieces the component, which you just created! And that seems to me complicated. If I would use round corners to your component, I would need to do 4 times same changes (corrections of deformed faces and creating new soft edges).

Maybe I should do it in the way that I will place two planes onto the component and I will divide it with intersection to get the quarter, which I would change to component and duplicated 3 times to create completed hole...

But most likely you have a problem, if you want the pipe to end up the same length and same ending points or connection.

Exactly, that is what I speak about. I use Fredo Scale tools! Ingenious tools! But this does not solve the diameter. I have moved the the pipe rings and set them in exact position and angle, and don't want to move them. So I wanted to change the diameter. If I would redraw them, then it would take the time to set the exact position and angle because the rings are joined like chain. And they are joined in exact position to fit holes of objects... So I decided rather to extend the hole, to me more wide, so the pipe will fit the ring. Fredo's scratching tool helped here to do it.

OK. Forget about ring. That confuses. You have a straight pipe, and wanna change its diameter.

What is it homotethic? I want to change diameter of all the "circles" in the pipeline and they must be same diameter for all. In my case the diameter is same in all circles in the pipe.

      Not Ctrl+scale - but thickness.

I have rings (pipes) and I try to find out how to change their diameter. Any idea?

I cannot believe that you put into component every hole you made! This would be big break. Even in the tutorials from Sketchup which I have seen, they did a lot of thinks without components. For example the holes. Using very simply technique like pushing the drawn circle into opposite side, to make hole... This very basic technique, seen so often in the tutorials, was not done with components! I simply cannot believe it, because this procedure looks much more complicated then what I do now.

And I don't take care that somebody thinks that this is trivial, he does work for years in SU, but I just started...

    • RE: [REQ] Information box to simplify work

I don't want the outliner structure to get too much complicated.

      Another example.

When I created rounder corners, there are as usually some faces deformed and I need them to correct.
Two holes = 4 areas of deformations.

      http://i47.tinypic.com/b8sdax.png

Should I create therefor 4 components for every area which is deformed?

      This is silly.

What I suggest is for example to define mirroring point - in other words in this case, to define center of the object, which is the point, where the mirroring center should be located. Then it would be simpler to do any other actions. I would just say, that the lines there, are image of the mirror of what I do right now. So I would do only this one correction to one area, and this would happen to all eight areas,

      Here I post an instance:

      http://i46.tinypic.com/20pya00.png

On the image, 4 grooves are needed. Of sure I can do it with copy/paste and or creating new group. But because this object is just little part of whole object, which has own structure, I see needles to create groups for this simple object. So if we would have the plugin, so when one grouve is done (or just first two lines are done), I would use this plugin to simply make the same on the opossite sides.

    • RE: How to deform ovalish object

To deform faces, I found very useful, fast and simple to use this tool:

      TGI3D: move

      http://i48.tinypic.com/ve3typ.png

It is much more better then LSS deformation functions which are too slow (and create extra group, which is not needed in my case)

    • RE: [Plugin] Pen Tool +

The Soft edge tool can close faces. But I did not used Edge tool (!). I used Soft edge - "S" tool, but it draws hard edges instead soft. But I did cca 20-40 faces with soft tool and soft edges when I started the model. And later it stopped to work. So strange. I like the Soft edge tool very much, because it can save a lot of time, but one needs to know, why it fails to draw soft edges occasionally.

    • RE: Dividing an edge

After some time, I'm back with the same problem. I was trying cca 60x and then came here... and now I tried the same as in the images and... does not work. Why? Maybe you could just add one more detail to the image (copy and CLICK). So when I tried just "move the copy and position and then type" or "copy, move and type and then click", it does not work. So now I understand that I must "move the copy, position, CLICK, and then type..."

BTW: Why did you decolored the icons of edit box? This looks so ugly and bad for orientation.

I did draw many soft edges, while I corrected rounded corners on object. Later suddenly the tool stopped working and it draws only hard edges, anywhere. I'd stress a lot with it, but nothing helped.

TGI3D - cross section tool : error: Cannot resolve cross seciton.

This problem can occur, when the program has has some dilemma. In the tutorial with wine glass, there is a cylinder and the instructor deleted at least top of the cylinder. In the case, that I create cylinder, which top is different shape or different angle then the bottom, than this problem will occur. The solution would be simple. Either delete top of the cylinder, or bottom, or (maybe), to draw one more circle on the face of the cylinder - I would use Tools on surface.
