Wow, I could not highlight it, therefore it made it difficult to find. I went back to the outliner, and found it, probably as you have.
The organizer seems a key component in making the model work efficiently, I am still trying to figure how to do that.
thanks so very much for you help and insights.
If you have any outliner insights I would be most interested in furthering my knowledge.

RE: Edit Text
Hey, thanks for the quick reply,
I am in SU, I see other issues within text for LO, I will endeavor to sort those out,
it is the errant text issue that I still do not know how to resolve.
Here is a zip file of the "project"
I still have significant "outliner" issues to understand / work thru.
If you have any insights there, it would be most helpful too.

RE: Construction & Working Drawings - Discussion
I am in the midst of this (endeavoring to use LayOut for Permit Plans) too, and it has been full of problems, so any perspectives, insights, examples would be most helpful.
thanks again

Edit Text
Okay, the on line help says "use select tool and edit text"
in most all cases that works, but I have a text that I cannot highlight, it is on every page, imports to Layout, and I do not know how to get rid of it, how to edit it nor how to "find where it lives".
I cannot highlight it to get entity info...
it seems that it is some "super overriding document name/text"...what do I do?
thanks

Dimension Lines non associative?
I want to put some dimensions on my floor plan, the exterior dimensions work fine, the interior dimensions..I cannot get them to attach to anything but the midpoint of a wall...?
I have checked the manual and searched here...still cannot find a defined way to do it.
any suggestions?
thanks

RE: Outliner....any perspectives
Thanks,
I could have labored for hours trying to figure those out.
Much appreciated.
I have yet to do the "paste in place" function, I will endeavor to research it.
and post any further questions.

Outliner....any perspectives
Okay, I am doing my work now in groups and components...
and I have a few, "How do you do that" questions.- When I try to select a group within the Outliner, I click on it and it expands the outline and I lose where I was trying to highlight? anyone had similar experiences?
- Okay, some geometry did not get into a "group", now how exactly do I get it (this errant geometry) into that specific, "original" group, I can highlight it, but it seems that first I have to make a new "group" and nest that within the original group as a new subgroup. So I end up with groups of groups of groups.....
am I doing this all wrong?
thanks

RE: Outliner causes crashes
The "genius bar" had a few suggestions, it could be the program, could be my hard drive going bad, it could be my operating system is corrupted...thanks for feedback and I will update you as to the progress.

RE: Smart way to have alternative plans?
I am going back to the "bar" today. And will update you as to their perspectives as how it (Mac with SU) currently works is unacceptable.

p.s.
I am in the middle of modeling a residential remodel, and I gotta say, group, group, and the Outliner, and be cautious of Layers. -

Here it is, thanks for checking it out.

RE: Outliner causes crashes
Should I post the file?
And maybe it is a "Mac thing"
More and more I feel that this is a hardware / software compatibility issue as I "crash" disturbingly frequently.
thanks

Model to Model sharing info...how to?
I have a architectural model that has some dimension errors.
I need to "rebuild" aspects of it. I would like to retain portions of the file and will have to discard others and "clean it up".
I can make a copy of the original SU file, strip away most of it and import that file.
Or is there a way to import only a group, or component from the original file to the new one?
and insights would be most appreciated.
thanks

RE: Scrapbook Additions
Back to the symbols question,
I seek electrical symbols, architectural symbols, etc.
I have searched in LayOut, that is limited.
Any one with a learned perspective or experienced insight?
thanks

RE: Outliner causes crashes
I did it very carefully, moving one item at a time to a new master group,
and it crashed.
this seems a bug, or am I "moving" these outline sub categories incorrectly?
thanks for you perspectives and insights.

Outliner causes crashes
Okay, I am getting familiar with the outliner.
and I seem to want to move groups around within it,
when I grab a couple of groups(sub groups) and nest them beneath a master group....crashes the whole system.
I even tried it in "safe" mode.
here is the crash message:
Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGABRT)
Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at 0x0000000000000020
Crashed Thread: 0any insights?
thanks

RE: Smart way to have alternative plans?
I have a MacBook Pro with 2gigs of ram, and I am crashing constantly.
Even on a small file.
Components seem to really compound the issue.
Layers too.
At this time I do not know if it is hardware/software related or my model geometry/layers/group organization.
But yesterday I crashed more than 10 times...
any insights would be most helpful.
Oh, I did get a tip from a "Genius" at the local genius bar.
Go to user, library, application support, sketchup and put that folder on the desk top.
It stopped my initial crashing,
(be careful, do NOT go to MacHD, library...)
if that helps...

RE: SU in the design process: the matter of “Workflow”.
This model structure is most helpful.
thanks for taking the time to explain it, diagram it, and clarify it.

RE: Construction & Working Drawings - Discussion
Architectural Working Drawings via SketchUp and LayOut.
This is what I want to do.
Any suggestions on "how" to do this?
I am a newbie, a bit lost as to how to "hold" a "scene" / layer that can be worked on. i.e. a floor plan, orthographic view, where I can add dimensions, notes, symbols, reference keys, section lines etc., all that would typically be on a floor plan drawing page.
How would this best be done?
any examples would be most helpful.
thanks
