Thanks for taking the time to get clarity on the issue.
I often have had multiple windows open primarily because I was learning SU, and found the need to reference back to either a YouTube video or the Online support manual.
I understand more what the "limits" are within SU and my Mac OS system.
Hopefully this will be addressed as I still want my multiple windows!!!
thanks again

RE: Outliner causes crashes
Here is the file,
bearing in mind I HAD to get these prints to the Building Department yesterday, so things are still in a "workable mess"
and I need to learn more on how to "organize" the Organizer,
I have chosen to stay away from Layers as it seemed to be causing more problems too.
I appreciate your insights.

RE: Screen goes white when I save
Thanks for the reply,
turned that off a while ago,
any other options or actions to do,
I am considering a whole new install of SU,
might that fix it?

Outliner causes crashes
This is what is stated within the Manual:
EVERYTIME I DO THIS SU CRASHES....
I would be more than willing to send my files for inspection, insight or solutions.

redMoving Items Within the Outliner
Use the Outliner to reorganize groups and components in the hierarchy. For example, you can move a group, buried deep within the hierarchy, to the top of the hierarchy for easy editing. To move items within the outline:
Display the Outliner using the Window > Outliner menu item. The Outliner dialog box opens with a hierarchical view of your model. The Group and Component entities at the root (top-most) level of the hierarchy are displayed. An icon with a plus sign will appear next to any components or groups if additional levels in the hierarchy exists (additional groups or components within the top-level groups or components).
Click on the plus (+) icon to list groups or components within other groups or components. Or, optionally, click on the Details Menu and select the Expand All menu item to expand the hierarchy so all levels are displayed.
Click and hold on the group or component you want to move in the hierarchy.
Move the group or component to a new position in the hierarchy.

Barry,
that really helped,
thanks,
and I will look into it as soon as I can.

RE: Construction & Working Drawings - Discussion
I resorted to 10pt, and that worked fine.
I too, did the dimensioning in SU, the text in LO...
got my first set to the building department today..
I have lots of questions still though.
I will keep you posted as to progress.

RE: Sketchup to Layout
Thanks for that insight,
I will give it a try too!
There is nothing like real work practical experience and you are sharing that.
Much appreciated.
To meet a deadline I did it all by hand...and maybe still can get it in prior to construction.
thanks

RE: LayOut Scenes
Thanks for the reply, I will endeavor to research how I am not doing it right.
I had a deadline, so I cobbled my way thru and got some prints out, my files are a mess, but the prints are at the Building Department....
I would really appreciate your insights,
if it is possible I would be willing to post the files and glean your perspectives as this "model"
has too many versions, the outliner crashes when I try to organize it, and I have way to many versions of "autosave-autosave-autosave-model"...
thanks

LayOut Scenes
Okay, I followed the instructions and put various "scenes" in SU,
i.e. floor plan, foundation plan, sections, perspectives....and then I go to LayOut and there are only half a dozen or so choices not typically the one I just saved...is this a limit within this application?
I also seem to have lost the choice of "ISO" within my views...
trying to create some working drawings in LO,
maybe this is a trick this pony doesn't do that well.
thanks for your insights and experienced perspectives.and on another note:
what is the difference between :SU "send to LayOut", which seems to only launch LO, and insert in LO, and wasn't the insert function more for "characters or symbols"?thanks

RE: Screen goes blank when I select...
yes, did that previously
any other thoughts? -
Screen goes blank when I select...
When I use the select tool, going from right to left, my screen goes totally blank.
I have to click and lose the selection before the screen reappears...
Is this a setting that has gotten installed unbeknown to me?
Is this a bug or....
I restarted SU, that did not work, I then quite SU and restarted the computer and it is still happening.
any ideas?
thanks

RE: Sketchup to Layout
Dave,
Nice practical application,
but I want a "live" document, one that is modifiable, i.e. responsive to changes that are inevitable.
Would a "table" within Layout do for things like Door and Window Schedules?
Also seeking a "symbols library" that I can use for architectural symbols and nested within the "characters" tables in LO.
thanks

thought I did all of that, but will try again, as I do personally want to thank those folks here that have been most helpful.

RE: Sketchup to Layout
What can I say, this was a huge help.
I am on a deadline to get some prints to the Building Department, and I seem to have jumped out of the plane without a back up parachute, so I have been trying desperately to find the rip chord before I hit the ground.
thanks so very much for the practical experienced perspective.
I would have NEVER figured this out..

RE: Dimension Lines non associative?
I "found" one solution, at least for now
that is go to the end of the walls, inference the point and draw the dimensions from there.
Is this the only way it can be dimensioned?
I would think that there is a way to have the dimension connect to a plane or a face, my dimension tool seems to only recognize ends or middle points.... -
Sketchup to Layout
I have a design presentation, I need to show the schematic level of the plans. i.e. Floor Plan, Elevations, Sections.
I want to import the "scene" into Layout to then make a PDF file to send to a client.
Each time I change "scene" it asks me to "save the file before sending to LayOut" or it sends the old scene.
I can save each "scene" but it is the whole file not just that view.(or so it seems)
Is there a practical way to send a "scene" to layout?
And how do you scale text made in SU then sent to LO. what happens is the text becomes too large, bunches over each other, and generally makes a mess out of what were once clean drawings.
Here is an example of the file:ManoaHale LL Floor Plan.pdf
