@unknownuser said: Google did not develop Sketchup. How could it be their loss leader? The purchase of SketchUp by Google -- just as there must be a compelling and logical reason for Dassault to purchase SketchUp now. Best, Jason.

I think the thing that threw me, and perhaps others here is that it is actually under the view / toolbars menu - why would you look there for a tool or option? cheers rabbit

Well, when yu are measuring (without wanting to add construction geometry), you can just hover over with the tape measure tool (without clicking) and get the measurement. I think (if I remember correctly) this was the reasoning behind making the add function the default if you also click. So if you do not want to guide point, just do not click.

OK - cheers TIG That works, but it seems to me it would be much cleaner if the incoming file would either just drop at the origin automatically, or you could type in 0,0,0 or even just 0 - don't see what the advantage is really of having it default to following the cursor around... rabbit

Yes, that custom attribute is left over from me trying to rememeber how to get it to work. As for figuring out DC's - it was a painful experience. I recall lots of nagging the development team for better docs. They have a pretty good website now that puts together the possible methods and examples of each method in action. In the Component Attributes window, just click on the functions tab. Then look for the little "more" url link. It brings up this page: http://sketchup.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=108144 And I recommend starting just like you are. Play around with onclicks and hidden variables, then move on to rotation and moving and copies, etc. And good luck! Chris

@rabbit said: On an only slightly related topic, a mate of mine has a computer that sits in the corner of the office and all it does is dial up the bank every day at a certain time and download statements. A few days ago a guy opened it up to put in a network card, and he grabbed a screen shot of a windows 95 message saying it had been running for 3760 days!! I have asked him to send me the message screenshot, but that must be a record for a win95 machine...? Not sure if I'd trust a Win95 machine with my bank statements...

You can find it here: http://sketchup.google.com/download/previousplugins.html It was written for V.5 and is pretty long in the tooth, but still works in 7. You need to place both the Camera.rb file and the folder called Previs in your plugins folder You will then find the options in the Camera Menu to "select camera type" and "create camera" along with a few other options.

@anssi said: For viewing and printing DWG files, I think the best solution is Autodesk's DWG TrueView. It has almost all the printing features of the full Autocad, it can translate files to different DWG versions, and it is a free download. Anssi Thanks for the info. But I was really making a rhetorical statement. The request was made to have dwg in LO. I find that most 3rd party programs make a rough version of dwg (ports not models) at best and this is a tall order, not an easy or minimal requirement for LO. TrueView, being made by AutoDesk is an example of my point.
