    • Inches versus metric in DC's

Why, on earth, does the following thing happen:

-> My component attribute units are set to cm
      -> I create a custom named attribute.
-> I set it to be settable in end user's model units. current model units are millimeters
-> The component options window shows a field, in mm.
-> I type any value in this field
-> The corresponding field in the component attributes window shows the corresponding value in inches! WHY???????????????

    • Is there a plugin for this?

does anyone happen to know of a plugin that deletes all hidden components, groups and geometry except hidden lines that define non-hidden faces?

    • RE: House Entrance Images

      Hi amalskaer,

      • are you using any bump maps? it seems not... they may help make your render look more realistic.
      • also, a bit of dirt on the lower part of walls and that stairway would greatly improve realism.
      • furthermore, walls aren't generally stuccoed all the way to the ground... check out some options for plinths
      • on the stairs, the black part looks like paint...is that the intention?
      • the front and top of the tiles don't match. this kind of thing will cancel out any level of realism a render may have.

still with SDSI... waiting for boss to come through on Artisan πŸ˜„
I made a structure that's something of a cross between a bunch of bones and the Brussels' Atomium πŸ’š

    • RE: MODEL THIS: Loopita Bonita Lounger

I've done it by hand... no speedmodelling here πŸ˜’ but by hand is more like doing one little bar, copy+rotate it 17 times, move each copy a few mm. Copy+rotate those 7 times, move each one the appropriate distance as well... so it's not really a helix I guess. no torque. just a shear.
And for the final touch, the hand grips or whatever for each segment. You guys all left those out I think... plus the fact that the distance is different there... Anyway. don't mean to be critical πŸ˜‰ I omitted some stuff too. Like, the cushions. Sorry cushions.
      So here's my pic. Enjoy.

    • RE: Xalet de Catlleras

      Hi all,
thanks for the kind words πŸ˜„
      Here's a little update.

      • put in a bit of terrain, plus a view that is not precisely accurate, but geographically in the correct region.
      • made some section snapshots
      • added all doors, interior walls and interior doors... chimney is yet to be done. Maybe it's not stone all the way through to the bottom. contemporary projects of his show metal types of heaters+pipes. The jump in the chimney on the second floor supports this theory(see little floor plans at bottom).
      • added exterior textures, plus some detail in the exterior stonework
      • added the little shed in the corner... not sure about that. It's visible both in current and old photographs, but very differently shaped. I'm thinking maybe I should leave it out. What do you think?

Just for showing the challenge of it... at the bottom are the drawings I'm working from... no higher res to be found on the WWW. Couldn't find any interior photos either. Neither current, nor old. Thus I have no idea of the materials inside. I'm thinking either a parquet floor or little flowery tiles - both occur in his other work. Or maybe different things on different floors.

Thanks all for being my sounding board on this one

That's exactly what I thought, KarinaGM. And thank you. Yes I am planning to. Don't know yet what to do with it exactly, especially the interior. Unlike most of Gaudi's work, it is made of reinforced concrete, since the site connected with a concrete factory.

Thank you designerstuart, and no it's not sectioncutsurface ruby. It's simply a section cut, with back face colour set to black.

    • Xalet de Catlleras

      Hi all,

I'm trying to reconstruct a chalet that was built by Antonio GaudΓ, but was long forgotten and fallen in disrepair... and then sort of renovated, but rather strangely.
The model is not done yet... I have some interior stuff, two front doors, and the sides still to do. Plus adding a bit of surroundings.
The last image shows some pictures of before and after...

Any comments. critics, ideas are welcome

To purge your model, go to Window > Model Info. Pick 'Statistics' from the list, and you'll find a big button saying 'purge'

      great start, yamh.
      I really like the wallpainting!
You might want to try a displacement map on the rug if your renderer allows it... which one are you using?
And maybe either show a little less of the white floor, or add a bit of interest with a different texture

Dude. So cool. Reminds me of ... some 15 years ago or thereabouts... of such an exhibition in Blijdorp Zoo Rotterdam. That was so cool! It had the sabertooth-tiger prowling over an archway you had to pass through. Being all scary and stuff. AFter that... so difficult to choose a favourite between the Triceratops and the Dactylothingy. With the wings.
Oh right. Your images are good too. I specially like the nest with eggs. Fur plugin for the nest? πŸ˜„ And did you model the skeletons or were those ready-made?

    • RE: How to solve dump file error

make sure you don't have photon map selected as a primary rendering engine. it can render unexpectedly dark (black) results in your primary render, when it shows up fine in the secondary. if that is not the thing causing the problem... make a ticket at support at asgvis dot com.

Yes I've seen that one happen... don't remember what I did to make it happen. Haven't seen it happen recently though. I think I fixed it by resetting materials via help>debug.
Any word from ASGVis about it?
