It looks good but I think that the tank has too much reflection on the renders. A tank isn't supposed to have any reflections, I think, otherwise it would be visible.

Yeah I know, but it looked like a toy without that bit of refelction for some reason. The refelction just helped set it down more in the environment. I think I should have given it some bump or roughness though. Thanks for comment anyway

Soviet T-34 rendered in Hypershot, post processed in photoshop. Took no longer than 10 mins.

With regards to animation, we can also think to animate the model. ARmedia allows animation, but it must implemented in association to Sketchup.

So is it possible to create a sketchup animation in augmented reality? I am specificlly interested in object animation using morisdov's 'proper animation' plugin. i.e. I would like to make a block move from point A to point B in augmented reality. Is this possible with the current release?
      Thanks

    • RE: DoubleCAD XT, free commercial use 2D detailing app.

Wow, I'm a third year student and was about to finally and unwillingly get to grips with autodesk autocad 08 - this appears to be the perfect alternative however + it's free. On first impressions I must say that the documentation provided looks fantastic and I might just be able to become a 2d drafting master sooner than I thought. The interface, though similar to autocad, is also much more user friendly and far more clutter-free. The startup styles are also a nice addition. I am carrying out a measured drawing of a difficult palladian style building at the moment and intend to wholly use Doublecad for the project now. Thank you wmanning!

    • RE: Photo to cad conversion - possible?

Wow thank you all for the quick feedback. The drawing actually does need to be as close to completely accurate as possible and it doesn't appear as though vectorizing a photo will do exactly what I need it to do. Hebrides' jruler seems to be the best option to go with for general measurement of the building (thanks for the link πŸ‘ ). I then intend to take very high res photos of the various carvings around the building and vectorize these elements in Illustrator. And of course I do intend to correct the perspective in photoshop beforehand. I'll let you know how I get on and thanks all again for the info (oh and any more suggestions more than welcome)

    • Photo to cad conversion - possible?

Hey, I have a pretty tricky building which I have to measure and was wondering if there was any way to accurately vectorize a photo.
So I've made a stab at it already but to be honest the result is pretty poor. Just looking for any advice as to how I could achieve the best workflow with regard to measuring this building.

So here is the building in question: The merchant hotel, Belfast

      http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p420/princedragoncok/Photo0096.jpg

I then touched it up as best I could to get it to look like a line drawing in photoshop (this is the part I think could be done better somehow, I just don't know how)

      http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p420/princedragoncok/Photo0096ready.jpg

I then brought it into Wintopo to vecotrize the image.

And here is the result in viewed in Sketchup: Unfortunately the lines are just took broken up for this to be in any way useful.

Well....I finally bit the bullet. I just bought VRay for SU. I'm feeling a bit sick all of a sudden. I better take next week off from work ...LOL.
      Jeff

Nah your going have to work overtime now! V-ray is the benchmark so definitely not a bad investment. Learning curve is a bit horrible though, so brace yourself for a stressful first few renders. Hmm I'd actually like to try this current render out with v-ray.. or maybe let someone else do it - how about you clickdraw?

I think both renders would serve well with a touch of caustics reflection on the ground as the light passes through the water in the bulb.

Totally agree, but I don't think I have that option with Hypershot? correct me if I'm wrong

As far as I know, v-ray is the only renderer supporting caustics at the moment.

      @click draw said:

Very nice renders both. When rendering, do you set the glass material to 0% opacity and reflection to 100%?
      Jeff

Well with hypershot its simply a matter of applying a default glass material that comes with the program. If I was to make glass with Podium however I'd probably make a translucent material, set it to 10-15% opacity, and 85-90% reflection.

I used Vue for the render.

Not at all, v nice. Your fishbulb appears to be a lot more robust than mine! I have to say i'm interested in trying out vue. So a few quick questions for the vue master: whats the learning curve like? and which package would you reccommend (as there seems to be loads). Thanks

Yeah I agree everyone. The bounces were already set at their highest, shadow quality not though. I tried 1 iriteration and in fact it worked the first time but I got greedy and went for 2 and messed things up. Now 1 doesn't seem work anymore (at least with regard to texture preservation).. will try again. Thanks for the feedback!

Here are my attempts with Hypershot, around 20mins each, two cores. Thing with Hypershot is that you can't use the native su sun, so I had to get as close as possible with a hdri.
