      Eh well de fact of de matter Mike, is dat i actually did legitimately come into possession of numerous amounts of moneys from my transactions with de horses.

      Here's the proxy:
      strand test1.jpg

      I also used the vector push/pull which made it so much easier to get the strands at angles

      wow thanks igor, yeh it's podium alright but with a touch of photoshop at the end (just a bit of diffuse glow and messing with saturation). I have to say podium is really powerful when you use the noisy settings, I much prefer noisy over default. The geomerty wasn't too complicated either so about 20 mins would have been acceptable, I just let it cook cause I was away - it made 7000 passes! I'm still letting it bake to 10000 as we speak (just to see what happens)

      Some of you might remember me asking about how to do organic strands a while ago. This is the initial result.
      Render time 6hrs using podium and sds

      1st attempt at a face. Went a bit wrong so I decided it looked better growing from the ground

      That texture did come out well indeed. I like the way it morphs into the next, quite cool

      Just bought subdivide and smooth πŸ˜„, so decided to pay tribute to Biebel's 'useful object'. Proxy greatly appreciated. Hopefully I'll be making some useful contributions of my own soon too. Rendered in podium 1.5. oh and how do I get rid of the attachment at the bottom btw??

      This is just great, I think i'll have to buy the subsmooth plugin today. How big did the file end of being though - could sketchup have handled many more rooms?

      You just select the top face. And you use the Zorro (or knife if you have Subdivide and Smooth) close to the top so that is the only part that is affected.

      Thanks

      @unknownuser said:

      How about creating a curved face then using curved face tools (Fred's script) to cut out shapes. Then using JPP (fred script again) to pull depth. Once you have a few variations of these then you can use Whaat's Sub-smooth script to soften the edges in order to look organic?

      Cool thanks, I'll look into getting those scripts.

    • RE: Organic modelling question

      Many thanks for the replies. To be honest this will never be built and is just something for both of our portfolios. I haven't a clue how to write scripts either but it might be worth investing some time in remus' idea which sounds best to me
      @unknownuser said:

      Maybe you could modify the tree generator script to give you lots of follow me paths in a sort of organic shape, you could then get a rectangle to follow along each path, intersect the whole thing, clean it up as best as you can and then subd and smooth.

      And another question regarding the tapering -
      @unknownuser said:

      Then you could Zorro the top parts and the scale the end of the tube to create the tapers.

      How is it possible to scale just the top parts? I'm trying to imagine it with a rectangle now.. wouldn't the whole thing just be equally scaled/stretched? Is there some way to just select a portion of a rectangle?

    • Organic modelling question

      Emm I've done some organic stuff before but never something like this. A client has asked me if it would be possible to create this in 3d for them. Anyone got any ideas? The Follow me tool can do some of the curvature but the way they taper at the ends has me stumped.. Maybe time to invest in subdivide & smooth? even then would it be possible? The client wants these as interior partitions separating restaurant tables from one another..
