    • RE: SketchUp 2018 Video Card

If the problem started all of the sudden and you had not had that issue previously I would check the driver for your graphics card. You may need to roll it back if windows updated it and your performance dropped.

Another thing that can happen with 3d vegetation is you can run across a component that is poorly designed and bogs everything down. Even if it just that one tree or whatever. I had a 3d birch tree just this morning that was so heavy it caused sluggishness all by its lonesome. I run a gtx 1080 and do not have issues unless there is a bad driver update or bad 3d component.

    • RE: Sketchup 2018 - Retaining Workspace Problems

      Add me to the list.
extension toolbars will not stay put and custom trays disappear when sketchup is closed and opened again.

logged in as always and installed as administrator

      correction...Toolbars are now staying put.

only thing i did that i had not done before was open a model, work on it and save it. This was the First save in 2018.

I will now recreate the lost custom trays, save the model, close, and reopen to see if they will now stay put as well.

      p

Yup, that did it. My mistake was to add all the extensions and make my custom trays in a untitled new file the first time i started 2018 and then just closed it. I did not realize that those system settings were actually tied to the file you have open and will not be retained unless you save the file....seems obvious now that I say it outloud...

      Time to test.
I wonder if this could truly be the answer I've been looking for for such a long time.

    • RE: Lumion 8 is just amazing!!

I am seriously considering making the move to Lumion 8. I am interested in lumion for what looks like very high quality photo real video capability. Does anyone have experience using this software to create photo real videos that they can share?

I have tried several different aps to create 30fps photo real video fly arounds and continue to run into the processing power problem. GPU based aps and cpu based aps have both led me to the point where I think I may have to purchase a $12,000 system to create photo real videos in a reasonable amount of time. I run a very strong computer with a very good gpu, but still need way more horse power to produce videos in a reasonable amount of time.

I am curios how long it took to create the video in the link at the top of this thread, and on what kind of system.

Or....is there a render farm that can run Lumion? that would be the best possible solution.

This is the quality and duration video I am after. This video would have taken my machine 4 days to process. I had someone with a bigger badder machine run it in about 22 hours.

I am determined to be able to create these videos and I would appreciate any input you all have as to Lumion 8 video capablities.

**I just now looked at the post from Tildee above and I looked at the videos. Those times are impressive. I run a gtx1080 so I am thinking I would do as well or better...hmmmm

I may be making the change...**

    • RE: Einhards Basilica

One other thing I did not mention up above was I thought it could use a little vertical adjust. The building felt like it was falling away from the viewer.

What do you think? is this an improvement?

      Competent and professional! Nice.
The one thing i would change is the use of the auto in the first image.

Putting a very nice, shiny, car at a sexy angle dead front and center in the image makes me wonder what your selling...the car, or your design:)

    • RE: Learning to render with Twilight Hobby

I was avoiding work this morning and enjoyed this thread.
I remember very well the frustration during the initial trial and error process of learning to render.
In a way, it never goes away...you will always have something more to learn but you will have a frame of reference so that make it more tolerable.

I am not a product illustrator so my two cents may be off base, but I think paying some attention to the surroundings helps ground the product and helps the viewer process what they are looking at.

I am sure there is some rules about being careful to not distract the viewer from the product but some context, I think help.

      Anyway...those were my thoughts.

You posted some more images while i was screwing around with this. You are doing great and need no input from me.

      Looking good.

Curious how the moose shoulder mount works visually being sort of sandwiched between the two chandeliers closest to the fireplace. I know most people who are into displaying taxidermy like the big head above the fireplace look but in reality not so good long term.... the heat from the fireplace can do quite a bit of damage to the mount over time....

Tuna, I just pushed the light fixtures closer to the center of the room in the Moose head version. In reality they may have to re think the lighting placement if they are going to have a head on the fireplace.
My guess is the fireplace wont be used that often and when it is it will be for short periods. That should extend the life of the dead head.πŸ˜„ Seems like so many of the features we put into these home are just for looks. Kind of a shame...

Thank you all for you positive comments

Do not get the chance to work with rustic materials often. It was fun for a change.

I have one with a moose head over the fireplace too, but looking in its eyes makes me sad:(

      Thank you for the responses.

The moose will need to be pretty much perfect.
It will be front and center above a fireplace in a photo real render. I am doubtful I have the skills to properly map a photo onto a moose head model.

I am thinking I may need to photoshop an image into the final render. Maybe use a moose head model in the render so it casts shadows and then overlay the "real" moose head image in photo shop...

I just now got this same message on a model file.

I have not closed the file yet because I am afraid I will loose work.

Are you saying you could no longer open the file after closing it?

I suspect it is due to one of several imported components as it happened after I put a bunch of kitchen components in the model.

Daniel, At the risk of enabling laziness, I will answer your Question...Again...πŸ˜„
suPodium is my renderer of choice. I have always found it to be a great balance between ease of use with quality. With relatively limited experience one can make some very nice renders, and with some effort and experience some very fine work can be produced.
