Cleaning up your example only took a few seconds. I see what you're getting at though as far as drawing in the draft. Curvilot might be a solution for you. I think Offset and a couple of guidelines will be helpful, too. SUCalkLeftTopAndBottomShankDrafted.skp

Yes, I wish that the default figure as you load up a new copy of SU, was Aidan as opposed to Sang!

@photon713 said: The first is my difficulty when trying to align two objects using the "move" tool. It seems that when I get the bottoms of two components aligned the sides are off and vice versa. So, is there a tool/plugin that allows the selection of two points and snaps them together at that point? Can you posts some screens of what you are describing. I'm not quite sure I understand the scenario. @photon713 said: Second, when flattening a component to a 2D level I cannot extrude it because the underlying lines etc., are still evident. I would like to be able to flatten the object with a resulting outline only, that I can extrude? Export a 2d DWG of the view, then import it?

If you have a planar surface, as in the 'top' of your plateau, that is missing vertices you can use SU's native sandbox tools to 'add detail'. This will then allow you to use Thom's tool. There are other means to adding vertices to planar surfaces but it's best to understand SU's native tools first IMO.

Thanks, everyone... I was using a profile for the front and back of the model. For some reason the width of one of the profiles was slightly shorter. I suspect I inadvertently moved an edge while I was moving it into position as an import and sliding it into place. I couldn't see the break until I scaled it up. Thanks everyone.

Thanks to everyone who passed on some suggestions on creating "draft". I discovered the perfect solutions to the problem. I found the plugin "Chamfer_Along_Path" allows me to cut the necessary angle not only on straight edges, but, curves as well. Using "smart extrude" maintains the chamfer as I extrude upward. I was able to ultimately create the entire horseshoe with SketchUp. It was converted to .stl format and submitted for 3D printing. I do have one issue that gives me problems of alignment which I'll post in the Newbie section...Bob
