That's partly our fault for giving and giving and giving, For everything I've posted I did it without any expectation of a response but I'm also disappointed when there isn't one 😳 (damn my ego!)

At the same time I posted the doors and windows I posted a tutorial for what I thought was a cleaver way to use SU as a design tool, now it may have been the way I worded the post or it getting lost amongst other posts but it's only garnered 3 replys and one of them is mine πŸ˜†
I put some time into it and almost no time into the doors and windows and yet look at the results, am I a little disappointed?, yes but only because of what I thought was the better post.

Now I feel bad again for not posting on other peoples treads....damn!

    • Some UK/Ireland electrical symbols for you all

Here's some more components for everyone, this time its a bunch of UK and Ireland domestic electrical sockets/switches etc and their associated symbols.
Its not a complete set of possible socket/switch/button combinations, its only the one that were used on this particular project but it does seen to cover nearly all the common ones.

      NOTE:
I'M NO ELECTRICIAN AND WHILST NOBODY POINTED OUT ANY ERRORS IN THE SYMBOLS I CAN'T GUARANTEE THAT ALL OF THEM ARE CORRECT.

      https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-yziCNxwVBd4/UBuQQfI5scI/AAAAAAAAGd8/ziMM9ZNl7Hg/s400/Elec%2520-%2520Scene%25201.jpg

      https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Kv2DOLqGqUE/UBuQRMNixjI/AAAAAAAAGeI/VGqgK8uHa6c/s400/Elec%2520-%2520Scene%25202.jpg

For every switch/socket/button component etc there is a symbol component, this symbol is placed 10mm above the floor and 10mm off the wall, its set to not cast shadows and has all its edges hidden. All three (socket and 2 symbols) are also a component.

Every thing is layered up so you can have any combination of symbol/switch you require.

      https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-pkyvuDUcgYE/UBuQR7o7lxI/AAAAAAAAGeM/5rpHsggMGj8/s400/Elec%2520-%2520Scene%25203.jpg

Here, only the vertical one is visible....

      https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-EPqFKoaSG5s/UBuQSQ_WxyI/AAAAAAAAGeQ/OgT-7kz6L_U/s400/Elec%2520-%2520Scene%25204.jpg

And here only the horizontal one.

      https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-zaiRZjVS0fA/UBuQSzpkyfI/AAAAAAAAGeY/Ix_WHmo3sQ0/s400/Elec%2520-%2520Scene%25205.jpg

This means that if your knocking out elevations or 3d views you can get this sort of look....

      https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-k4-uHiKvwtY/UBuQTFclKGI/AAAAAAAAGeg/otyH-3-jfuI/s400/Elec%2520-%2520Scene%25206.jpg

And if your doing plans, you can get this....

      https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-cnrbzgwjIKQ/UBuQV_trzyI/AAAAAAAAGe0/X0w1s9RSHGY/s400/Elec%2520-%2520Scene%25207.jpg

There are some odd looking ones, the three to the left are for mounting on surface trunking and the 2 to the right have their plan symbols floating in the air because they are for a desk, had I left the symbol at floor level it would have been under the desk and thus invisible.

      https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-EiVacYg_ruU/UBuQUIjX6WI/AAAAAAAAGeo/hN0z5poj9-Q/s400/Elec%2520-%2520Scene%25208.jpg

I've also included some radiators that were used on this particular project, I don't know how useful they'll be to you but they may give you a head's start if your needing some.

      https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-OBgu8WWWDCY/UBuQU4i0NmI/AAAAAAAAGes/ynk2JXWbYe8/s400/Elec%2520-%2520Scene%25209.jpg

Here's a couple of example of everything in action

      https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-ZiHXVB9WY9k/UBuQP_U-miI/AAAAAAAAGd0/sGJaMm_wLjg/s400/1418-Proposed-V15-NOFLOOR%2520-%2520Scene%25201.jpg

Again, I must reiterate, I'm no electrician and I can't verify the accuracy of the symbols, with that in mind I hope you find them useful.

      Mike,
I can be guilty of the same myself, sometimes I can't think of something appropriate to say or something that hasn't been said already.
It's a weird sensation when you want to say something but leave without saying anything and a guilty feeling 😳 I've never commented on Tadema posts because I can't even come close to matching his amazing creations with something as lame as my words, I constantly feel bad about it and I still don't do anything about it.... As I said weird.

I'm hoping that the forum update will supply us with a πŸ‘ or a +1 feature. this way I can show my appreciation without feeling inadequate with my words.

I've gone from Snow Leopard -to- Lion -to- Mountain Lion without any problems.
The only way to get MLion is through the Mac App Store which I assume is available on SL, you may have to get Lion first, I don't know.
Lion and MLion don't support ANY rosetta apps and any version of Quicken seems to have a permanent problem with any version of OSX (I dont use it myself)
The new Gatekeeper security feature in MLion automatically approves all the apps you currently have installed but if it gives you any problems it can be switched off.

I'd forgotten about another option, you can install Windows as a Boot Camp partition getting you all the speed of a native OS but with the hassle of having to reboot every time you want to switch OS's AND THEN install Parallels in OSX and link it to the Boot Camp'd Windows OS.
This way if you want to do something quick and simple you can fire up Windows via Parallels from within the Mac Desktop and if you have something heavier to do you can reboot into Windows with all the performance that the Mac and bring.

      Richard,
Thats a 'feature' or I should say a result of the responsive design, I have the same 27" at home but as I almost never run my browser at full screen I never really though of it 😳
There's nothing I can do to centre it with this particular rapidweaver theme but in Chrome if you hold down Ctrl and hit the '+' key it will zoom in. I assume the same is true for Firefox/Safari etc. Ctrl '-' zooms out and Ctrl '0' resets the zoom. Chrome remembers this so you can have different zooms on different sites.

In case anyone's interested this is the theme I used. Have a look at some of the pages to see some of the variations that can be achieved.

I'm itching to have a go at another one just to try this theme, It looks fantastic

    • RE: Running Win on a Mac...??

      You have 3 options:
      Dual boot
Its built into the mac and enables you to install Windows as a completely separate OS, Upon starting the Mac you can boot into OSX or Windows. Its free apart from the Windows Licence but the 2 exist seperatly and you have to shutdown and reboot each time you want to change.
      http://www.apple.com/findouthow/mac/#windowsmac
      http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/

      Parallels or VMWare
Both of these allow the creation of Virtual Machines so you can run Windows in a window(or full screen) without leaving OSX just like any other Mac App. Printers, network etc are shared and files can be dragged from one desktop to the other without any problem.
Its slower than bootcamp but not by much and of course what memory you have in the Mac is now being used by both OS's
You can actually create an unlimited number of VM's so you could have Windows XP/Vista/7, Linux, Chrome and even another copy of OSX not only installed but running at the same time (memory permitting)
Both Parallels and VMWare cost money.
      http://www.parallels.com/uk/products/desktop?icid=1479
      http://www.vmware.com/products/fusion/overview.html
I use Parallels and have no problems with it.

      VirtualBox
This is a free VM app by Oracle.
I've never used it and I'm not sure how it works or how well, I think its limited in its graphical performance so apps like Word would be OK but AutoCAD or SU would struggle or not work at all.
I'm sure others here have had some experience with it.
      https://www.virtualbox.org/

For Boot Camp and Parallels/VMware you'd have to get a Windows Licence (or use one from a now defunct comp), I don't know about VirtualBox.

      Hope the above helps.

Finally got to do my first website for a friend.
I used Rapidweaver on the mac which I cant recommend enough as it makes the still rather complex process of web building very easy.
The site is responsive so it automatically adjusts to suit different devices (desktop/iPad/iPhone etc.) You can see this if you narrow your browser window with the site open.

Following the response from the doors and windows I posted a while ago here's a follow up.

Theses are articulated (Semi's if your from the colonies) trailers I made for a recent project, I went a bit overboard on the variations but it made for a more complete set.

The tractor was originally from the warehouse but as it wasn't 'originally' from SU and the fact that I've completely rebuilt it reducing its size to only about 10% of its original I think its OK to post it here.

I've made the interior of the tractors separate components so if you happen to drive on the wrong side of the road then you can mirror the interior to suit your countries quaint ways without having a back to front volvo logo etc. πŸ˜„

      Try this:
      Filehippo Update Checker
It simply scans what you have installed and then pops up a browser window of apps/drivers that are out of date, its up to you if you want to download and install them.
While your at it get CCleaner and Defrag if you havent already, both are free.
I use CCleaner about one a week to not only get rid of the accumulated junk that Windows acquires but to check and kill a lot of the unnecessary processes that start with Windows.

As for AVG, I personally got rid of it yonks ago after it started to 'infect' my browsers with it toolbars etc. I use Avast on my XP machines and MS's own Security Essentials on Win7

    • RE: UK Arctic (Semi) Lorry (Truck) Trailers

The US call them Big Rigs or Semi's, In the UK we call them lorries or arctic's(articulated). As we have many nations here I thought it was prudent to give the post a tile that covered all the bases πŸ˜„

As for the sizes all countries/continents have different regulations, here are the basic UK sizes:
      Overall length: 16.5m
      Trailer Length: 13.6m
      Bed height: 1.35m
      Overall height: 4.2m
      Width: 2.55m

Trailers can go up to 4.88m high but these are usually for bulky but light items such as clothing etc. they are normally double deckers with a lower bed height. (there's one in the images above)

The regs also cover axle number/positions, 5th wheel position, guard rails etc.
I think our lorries/semi/arctic's are slightly smaller than other countries as we need to be able to get them through ye olde villages and under yonder bridges. πŸ˜„

If Tadema's going to be honest with his images then the law of averages says that he's due to have one of these wedged through one of his front walls very soon 😲

    • UK Arctic (Semi) Lorry (Truck) Trailers

Had a need for some UK/Euro truck trailers but all the stuff in the warehouse was US or c*ap so made my own.

It was actually quite hard to find the reg's regarding sizes and in the end I contacted a trailer manufacturer who was very helpful and supplied me with some basic dimensioned drawings, the rest I extrapolated from photos.

I've done Flatbed, Boxvan, CurtainSider, Refrigerated, Skeletal (with/without containers), Double decker (Box and Curtain) and 2 tractors, (2 and 3 axle)

The tractor unit was originally from the warehouse but as it was previously from 3D Studio (or similar) prior to that it was a right mess, A lot of rebuilding, componenting later and its a fraction of its original size.
      xx---Scene-1.jpg
      xx---Scene-2.jpg

With only the details (wheels, tyres, lights etc) having materials applied it means that I can apply any material I want to the trailer/container etc and it (bar the details) gets all colourful.
      xx---Scene-4.jpg

At some point I'll post them here like I did with the doors and windows but It'll have to wait a bit as we need to get some mileage out of them first.
