      Make the common room shell
      Copy it twice
      Make one into the existing
      Make one into the proposed
      Group/Component each one
Put each one on a separate layer
COPY each so that they are on top of each other.
Set up camera views/anims of/within the overlapped models and save the scene(s) as CAMERA ONLY
      SWITCH OFF the Proposed layer
      Export the scene(s)
SWITCH ON the Proposed and OFF the Existing
      Export the scene(s)

By making a copy of the existing and proposed component'd rooms you can continue to build/modify them and the overlapping ones will update accordingly.

I do this all the time.
Another way of using this method is to make all the individual component'd floors of a building and its roof, have them layed out NEXT to each other for ease of working on them but to ALSO have a copy of each stacked on top of each other as the building will appear.

      xx.jpg

As you can see I have Ground, First, Second, Third and roof all neatly layed out 40m apart co i can easily copy stuff between floors (Kitchens, furniture etc) but I also have them stacked for generating sections, testing service runs etc.

I've just made a couple of under the skin changes as it wasn't working properly on an iPhone.

      Kristoff,
Whilst I knew the actual switches/symbols etc were of limited use even to UK/Ireland SU users I thought the technique was of interest to the whole community.
I'm glad its sparked some ideas for you.

    • RE: Windows solutions

      I'd add Malwarebytesto that list.
Install it, update it(automatic) set it running on a FULL scan and go to bed.
If there's anything awry this will find it and kill it.
If it finds anything then it may take 2 couple of reboots/scans to properly clean out the stuff but it works.

Another alternative is Combofix. Its a lot rawer (is that a word?) than Malwarebytes but can (I understand) dig deeper.

      Bump indeed..

Every time I've installed SU on someone else's machine I've been surprised when nothing I do works, that is until I remember just how many plugins I use on a regular basis.

      Thank you all.

Hey 8-year-old me, I just watched NASA land a giant rover on Mars on my wireless pocket computer. Youโ€™re going to like it here in the future.

I sat at home in Northern Ireland as my iPhone wirelessly streamed live HD footage from California? to my AppleTV which is hooked up to my 40" LCD whilst I had my MacBook running the Eyes on the Solar System app on the Coffee table and finally I was following the MSL thread on the NASA Spaceflight forum on my iPad.

In 1985 I was using a PR1ME mini computer with a 512Kb 14" removable hard disk that was in a drive as big as a dish washer networked to dumb terminals over RS232?

Also look at Pixeet, their app (iphone/iPad) is free and suports the gyro function so you can look around the scene by simply moving the device.
The same panos can be uploaded to a free account and viewed online or embedded in a web page, additionally the panos can be linked to each other so you can place a flag in one that when clicked will open another.

Link to one of my panos

    • RE: My first website

I used Rapidwaver (Mac only) and the Stacks extension, this makes it a simple case of drag and drop when building a website.
For example I can drag a Text stack onto a page and I get a paragraph of text, I can drag a 2 column stack and a text stack into each column and hey presto you have 2 columns of text.
Text, Images, effects, backgrounds are all stacks dragged onto the page(s)
Saddly everything comes at a cost, 90% of the available stacks cost money, some are only $2 others are $10. Here's a link to Doobox, one of many stacks developers, to give you an idea of what's available.

Themes are the same, Rapidweaver comes with a basic set but for anything impressive you need to splash some cash, again they range in price from $10 to $40, the nice thing is you can change a theme at any time and use the same theme on many site at they are highly customisable.
It would take me about 1/2 hour to change the entire look of the site I've just done, 90% of that time would be undoing some of the theme specific customisation I've done.

I used HostPapa to host the site, BlueHost are also meant to be good. Free unlimited Email, Domain registration etc etc.

    • Plugin Request - Material Swatch Maker

On nearly all the models I create I make a swatch of the materials in the model, like this:

      xx.jpg

Is there a way to roll this into a plugin? I imagine it would work like so:
      User activates plugin.
User is prompted for a swatch size - (100mm, 1000mm, 4", 1', or whatever the user types).
      User clicks initial start point.
Plugin recursively goes through models materials creating swatches 125% of selected size apart (25% gap between each)
Entire palette of swatches is grouped.

      Possible feature:
Create text label under swatch of material name.

    • RE: Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) landing

They can't bring the 'sky crane' any closer than 60' as the motors would kick up so much ground they'd stand a big chance of damaging the rover and at the least covering it with a good layer of dirt.
The vechicle is as big as a small car and couldn't survive the bouncing ball method they used with the 3 previous rovers.
