I'd love to know if this is possible, additionally the how about getting the materials palette to open at a specific library ( or home) -

They're actually from 2009 but I forgot about them

RE: Some UK/Euro Artic/Semi trailers for you all
We were doing a loading dock for a local company and realised that we had multiple conflicting dims for UK trailers, I rang a couple of trailer manufacturers but got the cold shoulder. I then rang a company called Don-Bur and spoke to one of their designers, damn he was helpful, he actually sent be a basic drawing with all the sizes, axle positions etc.
It seemed a hell of a waste to leave them as 2D sketches so I hunted the net for images of trailers, chassis, axles etc and knocked out what you see here.
The 2 tractors were originally from 3DW but there's no way they were made in SU so I gutted and rebuilt them to about 10% of their original size and added them to the file.

RE: Welcome our new "Top SketchUcators"
Wow, looking at the list of TS's I appear to be the oldest forum member (by 5 hours ).
12th Nov 2007, for someone that cant remember what day of the week it is I seem to remember that day quite well, AtLast/Google had just (or days before, I cant remember) announced that the SketchUp forum was going to Google Groups and amongst the energetic discussions (read angry mob) Coen suggested his forum as a refuge and off we went.I truly don't think he knew what he was letting himself in for but if Mike is our Mayor then Coen is certainly one of our founding fathers. Without his generosity we'd all have disappeared into our separate corners and all that you see here would never have existed.
So I'd like to dedicate my elevation to Top SketchUcator;
To Coen who's unwitting generosity made it possible.
To the moderators who kept the forum going and continue to give what I can only summize is a divorce level of time to it.
To the developers who's skill and generosity have extended SketchUp far beyond what I believe even the original writers of SU imagined it could do.
To anybody who ever answered a question.
To every artist who inspired me to repeatedly bang my head of the desk with their skill (and my lack of mine)
and
To everybody who comes here, never have I encountered such an online community.Thank you

Thanks.

RE: Is anyone following the Apple v Samsung battle?
I'm a recent apple convert having got my 1st MacBook pro about 4 years ago and since then another MBP (after the 1st was stolen), 3 iPhones, 2 iPads, Airport networking and most recently a 27" iMac so you could cal be a bit of a fan.
My wife just can't get on with either the iPhone or OSX and uses windows via Parallels desktop to do her work. (though she loves her iPad...weird)
She's had 3 or 4 blackberry's but her most recent one, a Bold 9900 was such a PoS that we replaced it with a Gallaxy S3 a couple of weeks ago and I must say........I'm impressed, it's thinner, lighter, obviously bigger and possibly clearer than my iPhone 4s.
There was nothing during the setup that I felt was 'from apple'. but I think that Samsung saw the court case coming and had got rid of a lot of the 'features' that Apple were bugged about when they did the S2/S3.
If it wasn't for the seamless integration between my apple stuff I'd quite happily give up my iPhone for a S3.But I still prefer sketchup on windows

RE: Some of my Latest, Shipping Containers
Sorry I should have been clearer.
What I meant was instead of using an existing shipping container (SC) that you then have to gut to achieve your starting point for a unit why not manufacture the frames for your units from scratch.
When you see how many SC's there are in the world I doubt there is a shortage of manufacturers. You retain all the structural properties of a SC + more if you wish.
You retain the standardised dimensions + additional variations I suggested above.
You retain std latching points for transport.
You get to spec materials suited to a building not a transport unit.
Metals walls/floors/ceilings would prevent radio, cellphone, tv reception.- more I cant think of at the mo
Its not the SC itself your interested in, its the intermodal system of which they are the most visible part.
Use SIP's Panels for the Floor, walls, ceiling instead

RE: What's this?
I agree with Ken, it looks like 4 chairs and a table. The chairs appear to have retractable back rests.
But I have no idea what the handle in the middle does -

RE: Some of my Latest, Shipping Containers
I don't think actual shipping containers are a good building material BUT their size are.....
Instead of transfixing on the shipping containers themselves, you should simply use their size as a basis of construction.
You could build anything you wanted 8' x 8' x 40' and as long as it was within the capability/limitations of transport then you could get it to site on a regular truck. As long as you retain the latching points you can transport/lift with existing equipment, for example:
8x8x40 (Accommodation)
8x8x20 (Stair core)
8x8x10 (Service riser/lift core)
8x4x40 (Roof section)
4x8x40 (Corridor)
8x8x5 (Balcony) -
RE: Neighbours
Another amazing image John but (selfishly).......
Yay!! The website works.
As soon as I saw this post I checked the site and the image (along with another one he hasn't told us about!!) is there.
I'd made the site so that it sources all the images from Picasa, this means that John can manage what images are displayed in which gallery without needing my involvement. As soon as he adds/deletes/updates an image to Picasa it appears on the site.Rapidweaver has many similarities with Sketchup in its usability and strong independent developer base.
It's only a shame that there's no place quite like here for the community, it has a forum but it's cold in comparison to here. -
RE: Happy Birthday, Paul Russam
I don't believe that there's such a thing as a midlife crisis, that's why I bought this last year to prove it...
What could be more normal than a 47 year old driving around in a sports car with the roof down wearing a baseball cap to cover his balding head keep the sun out of his eyes?

RE: Happy Birthday, Paul Russam
Thanks Tim,
For some reason it doesn't feel like 46+1, it feels far more like 50-3.
Weird and faintly unpleasant -
RE: Old and new transition
Make the common room shell
Copy it twice
Make one into the existing
Make one into the proposed
Group/Component each one
Put each one on a separate layer
COPY each so that they are on top of each other.
Set up camera views/anims of/within the overlapped models and save the scene(s) as CAMERA ONLY
SWITCH OFF the Proposed layer
Export the scene(s)
SWITCH ON the Proposed and OFF the Existing
Export the scene(s)By making a copy of the existing and proposed component'd rooms you can continue to build/modify them and the overlapping ones will update accordingly.
I do this all the time.
Another way of using this method is to make all the individual component'd floors of a building and its roof, have them layed out NEXT to each other for ease of working on them but to ALSO have a copy of each stacked on top of each other as the building will appear. As you can see I have Ground, First, Second, Third and roof all neatly layed out 40m apart co i can easily copy stuff between floors (Kitchens, furniture etc) but I also have them stacked for generating sections, testing service runs etc.
