    • RE: Exporting for full scale printing

What I need is an actual sized image to make a curved templet for a cabinet. The 2d curve is over 10' in length. When I try to export the image my only choies are a .jpg .bmp .tif and .png

All greek to me I'm afraid. I want to download this to a portable device(a memory stick) so I can take it someplace to have printed up full size as drawn.I have no photo programs so that's not an option.

    • Exporting for full scale printing

I need to make a full size templet for a project that is way to large to print on my home computer. I want to send the file to my flash drive and then take it to the local copy center to print. I exported a 2d jpeg of the object but when the guy opened it it was tiny, not full size. I need an explanation as to how I might accomplish this. I know how to print full size to my printer and if it was smaller I would tile it, but at 144 pages that's not going to happen.

Thanks Gaieus, it was the order of the thing that had me flumaxed. It works perfect now. Also many thanks to TIG, your patience knows no bounds.

OK, I made a circle, pulled it up, deleted both top and bottom faces, set the axis as shown on the top of hole with blue going up, created component with glue to any and cut opening checked. Then made box without making component. Then with move tool I moved hole component over box and it will not cut. I rotated it upside down and tried again.I really have got to get this. I've been doing well with the program execpt for this one thing. I know if I can get this I'll understand a lot more than just hole punching. Thanks for your patience.

    • RE: Punching holes please

Sorry TIG, I'm trying. On my example I placed a cicle exactly over the axis as I understood it from your example, then pulled it downward which I assumed meant that the face is now in the z=0 position. So are you saying to make the box first as a component/group, then enter edit and create a hole/component in situ, rather than move hole/component from outside ? I still can't get it to work that way.

Thanks again for the lengthy reply. What you reiterated is my understanding ( I think) of the process. Here's a test I just did and as you can see the component ( the hole, with cutting checked) is partly inside of raw geometry and is not cutting thru. Moving it all the way in changes nothing. Is it possible that I have a preference somewhere set wrong ?hole test.skp

      Tig,
Thank you for the reply. I made a test hole component. I chose glue to any and checked off cut opening. I made hole exactly as shown. Then I made a rectangled box. Did the same . Can't get it to work. I exploded the box, still no go.Is the box supposed to be a componenet at this point ? Even an exploded box shows one face which covers hole. Hole shows only as a circle on surface of box. Like I said, I'm feeling really dense on this one.

OK, I feel really dense. I've tried all the above and I'm not getting it at all. I have a component that I wish to place the row of holes in. I get that I'm supposed to lay it down. Do I the explode it, or do I draw one hole ,punch it thru, make it component, array it, then what. I've done nothing for hours figuring this out and I can't. All I can do is make arrays of circles but that's it. I can punch one at a time in edit mode but that is what I'm trying to avoid. This is something I need to do on a regular basis, so can some one give me a step by step ? And what is meant by a reglue script and where do I find it?

    • Punching holes please

I'm trying to create a component with these holes bored. I created a side, also the holes I need. How do I go from here to create said holes in side? I thought I could use the intersect function but I'm having trouble. Just know there's a simple answer, can almost taste it, yet......

    • RE: Terrible time with sketchup

Mike, as a fellow woodworker I feel your pain. For me the third time was the charm. Building an incredebly intricate period piece of furniture was a picknick compared to trying to figure it out on my own. Then I found this woodworkers site http://www.srww.com/google-sketchup.htm and I did the 8 tutorials on drawing his table. Something clicked and I started to get it. Then I found this site which is hands down the place to get answers. Also check out the woodworkers forum here, lots of stuff you'll relate to. Learn the basics and practice them. Then venture into deeper water, and holler for help when you're really stuck. Now that I'm starting to figure it out I'm beginning to see the absolute awesome potental this program offers. Which is daunting as well as really cool cause it means I'll never learn it all. How boring would that be ?

    • RE: Arc Tool Question

Thanks Jim, I was close, just kept entering the r first, which it saw as a shortcut to rectangle instead.
Gaieus, I could indeed use the buldge if I wanted to do the math, but I want it now (instant gratification don't you know)! Actually in this case I was laying out a partial arc that had a large radius (over 200")but a small chord (about 60"). Since the designer's layout only showed radius and not height of chord, or bulge as SU calls it, I needed to get it right on the money as said designer is persnickity about such things.

    • Arc Tool Question

When using the arc tool the measurement box displays the bulge and not the radius. If I wish to input the exact radius how do I go about it ? I know there must be a simple way to do it, but for the life of me I can't figure it out.

    • Where Did It Go ?

I was working away on a model this morning and while orbiting my model just vanished. I thought at first that I was inside of model so I zoomed out to no avail. No change of camera veiw helped. I finally closed out and reopened file and still nothing. I dropped the component box down and all my components were there, so I tried bringing one in and I get nadda.I then exported componenets to my document page and tried to import them in a fresh model, and still nothing. I can see the componenets in the box, but cannot bring them in model.I opened other models and they all work fine. Any clue as to what just happened ? I was early into this model so luckly only lost an hour or so, but I need to figure out what happened so I don't lose a completed model.

    • Dividing a curved face

I have a built in buffet that hangs off a wall that I'm drawing. In plan view it's a segment of an arch. I need to evenly divide this curved edge. I tryed using the 1001 plugin divider but I can't get it to work. I suspect it's on account of the fact that the curve is segmented. Is there a way to do this ?

    • Repeated Holes

OK, so I have this cabinet side drawn that I need to place two rows of holes 6mm dia and 10mm deep in a 19mm thick side. I have the rows laid out and can make one hole just fine. Doing a hundred or so will be a PITA. There must be a way to do this quickly and efficiently . Any ideas ?
