Arc Tool Question
-
When using the arc tool the measurement box displays the bulge and not the radius. If I wish to input the exact radius how do I go about it ? I know there must be a simple way to do it, but for the life of me I can't figure it out.

Hi Otis,
when you start the arc, first it shows the span. If it were to be an exact half circle, half of this would be the radius.
When defining the bulge, can't you use this value to define the radius?
Also, when it becomes a half circle,it will show a tooltip. If you want to add the radius, whose radius would it be? I mean if the radius/bulge is not the same as half of the span, what would be the reason and how do you imagine to enter (and what exactly)?

You can enter the radius.

You can specify an arc radius instead of a bulge distance. Type the desired radius in the Measurements Toolbar, followed by the letter r and press the Enter (Microsoft Windows) or Return (Mac OS X) Key. You can perform this action either during or immediately following the creation of the arc. For example: 24r or 3'6"r or 5mr.

Thanks Jim, I was close, just kept entering the r first, which it saw as a shortcut to rectangle instead.
Gaieus, I could indeed use the buldge if I wanted to do the math, but I want it now (instant gratification don't you know)! Actually in this case I was laying out a partial arc that had a large radius (over 200")but a small chord (about 60"). Since the designer's layout only showed radius and not height of chord, or bulge as SU calls it, I needed to get it right on the money as said designer is persnickity about such things. -

Doh!
(And sorry Otis, and I now remember that I used to remember this and now I also realize what it is for)
