OK, now I'm really confused. I've reloaded both plugins to my desktop. I've been advised to open directly in my plugin folder. Yet the link I went to to download the plugin says "Download that and open it. Then copy the contents into your C:\Program Files\Google\Google SketchUp 7\Plugins\ folder. (that is assuming you are using Windows XP. Vista". What am I missing ? I plan to delete the previous plugins from my plugin folders and then do what I need to with the new downloads sitting zipped on my desktop.I need a play by play picture to go by, as I've tried to do this several ways and still end up with the same error message when I launch. Is this what Mac users say is a PC thing? It sure gets frustrating, feel like a bind man driving a car .

RE: Resizing components
I have done what you describe, I think. I put the un zipped folder in plugins, extracted all files, still get the same message when I launch SU.

RE: Resizing components
Yes, that's the second one I mentioned in the above post, the libfreedo 6 thingy, it's on there.

RE: Resizing components
OK, 24 hrs later and I still can't get the freedo plugin to work. This is about par for course with me as about 50% of the plugins I download never seem to work. Some that I paid for in fact. Anyway,I get a load error box when I launch SU that reads(Error Loading File ZLoader__FredoScale.rb
No such file to load -- LibFredo6.rb) I haven't a clue as to what that means. I unzipped it (whatever that means) and put it in the plugin folder along with the second one that goes with it. Usually they just don't work, kinda nice that I at least get a message with this one:) -
RE: Resizing components
That's good to know, Jeff. If I progress well with the free version I'll likely upgrade to pro. BTW, I was just at the post on the freedo plugin and used that link and was able to download the plugin. How weird is that. I'll give it a go next.

RE: Resizing components
Oh happy day ! I did it. I had to explode the component twice, then it worked perfectly. Must have missed that in the tutorial:)

RE: Resizing components
Ooops, I better clairify. The tutorial is for using the move tool to strech an object as linked to by Gaieus.

RE: Resizing components
I've given up on the freedo plugin for the time being. I've read the tutorial at least a dozen times, seems pretty simple. But all that happens is the object as a whole moves just like any other time. What am I doing wrong ? I am really desperate at this point, as I either figure this out ,or go back to hand methods.

RE: Resizing components
Just got back 4 hours ago from a short trip. Followed Gaieus advice . I have an older version of IE. Gave up on it, switched to Firefox, removed cookies ,came back, relogged, same thing. At extensions I'm a guest. Found new cookie, deleted it, repeated above a dozen or so times. One of my problems is that, like someone who drives a car, I'm pretty good at it, without understanding all the intricacies involved. I really don't even have a good notion as to what a cookie is. I thought it was something all web sites do to spy on people so they can sell the info, sort of the price we pay for the internet. So it seems odd that I should be deleting the cookies from this site.Should I set it up to not accept any cookies, just this one specificaly,or am I doing something really dumb (most likely I'm sure).

RE: Resizing components
Thanks Gaieus,. One problem though. When I go to Extensions to download a ruby, in this case the Freedoscale, it shows me as a guest and not Otis, even though I'm logged in. I've always had this problem and would love to know how to be logged in here as well as there.

Resizing components
Ok, still just learning. If I'm drawing say a five piece raised panel door(2 stiles, 2 rails, 1 raised panel) for a cabinet a certain size, how can I make a copy of this and change its size( specificaly height and width). I've figured out how to resize the object, but it changes all dimensions. What I need to do is input specific dimensions for height and width, keeping rail and stile widths and thickness the same.Is this even possible with the free version, in which case I have to start from scratch with each sized door ? Is it possible to do with the pro version ?

Rendering and Exporters
Hi all,
I'm a newbie with a couple of weeks under my belt. I tried to learn SU two years ago but gave up in frustration. This time, thanks to all the great tutorials out there, things are going mostly ok.I realize now that learning SU is a lot like learning a musical instrument, it don't matter how good you get, there's always more to learn.Plus there are many different styles out there. Anyhow, after completing some models I was disappointed in the results I was getting when I printed them out. Thanks to this forum I've learned how to export a larger size file and get much crisper images. From reading all this I realize that there are rendering programs and also exporters. But I havn't been able to get a simple explanation as to what these two things are and what what exactly the relationship is between the two. Doesn't SU do both of those? I kind of get it, the way a kid who overhears the adults gets it,just a little fuzzy on the details I am using SU mainly for cabinet and furniture design. At this point I'm concentrating on good working drawings with dimensions and cutlists. As I improve I'll start pushing the image issue, with hopefully better looking renditions for presentations. Any advice I can get is mucho welcome. -

Thanks so much for the replys. You've given me some great tips, I doubt I could have stumbled on by myself.

Hiding a texture layer
Hello all, first time post. Been using SU for a very short time but have made decent progress. I can usually find answers thru searching the various forums, but this one has me beat. Just finished a model of some cabinets. Used hidden layors to good advantage to set varios scenes with dimensions. All good. However I wish to do one scene with textures without affecting the other layers. Hidden layers is great for dimensions, but I can't get it to work for textures.I need one or two scenes with texture for presentation, but prefer the rest to be without. I looked for a ruby that would do hidden textures layer but came up nada. Can anyone help point me in the right direction ?
