You seem to have got yourself into a terrible tangle... πŸ˜’

hehe.. yep.. that's why I went ahead and downloaded it and installed it. I read the release notes and thought.. oh good - update time.

ok.. um.. I did not uninstall M2 to install M3. I was not using M2 because of the greyed out menu items, I was using the 8.0.3something - and did not uninstall any version prior to installing M3.

Due to scary updates in other places over the years, I've become very wary of any updates to programs and tend to move....rename and try to hide working programs from installers - which I had done prior to downloading M3.
I had sketchup in a completely different folder (not program files) 3 levels deep, named hidingPVerSU and I still lost them when I installed.

I use windows 7.. have been since late in 09 and really don't consider it new anymore since windows 8 is on the horizon. I have gone in and taken ownership of what seems to be every file I have ever accessed on my computer.. given myself admin privs for everything (gawd I miss XP) disabled the UAC and even tried breifly to run everything in XP mode - that was a big fail.

Also.. in another place on my hard drive, I have two back up plug in folders. (that probably need updating but they're in tact)

I am pretty sure I have my installers for previous versions backed up on an external drive so, when I get a chance to, I'll be searching them for the version that was working before I tried to use M3

I did go ahead an uninstall M3. I use cCleaner for both the uninstall and registry cleanup.. then go back and do the manual empty folder housekeeping.

Thankfully, I had the installer for version 8.0.11752 handy, which is installed and running.

Vertex tools, one of my purchased plugin's is freshly installed but still not showing up so I'll be hunting down version 8.0.3(something) which I am fairly sure is backed up on one of my external drives.

And I agree.. strange that my previous versions were gone. All but the plug in folders from versions 6 onward had the whole folders emptied. SU5 is in tact.

      Thanks for the reply. πŸ˜„

I'm a little late updating .. but now I have no working sketchup on my computer. The installer hunted down and killed all my old versions (back to 5) and when I open the program I have an instant bug splat.
Does anyone know what the runtime error R6025 - pure virtual function call means and how to fix it?

    • Count verticies?

might someone know of a plugin that counts the verts in a model or portion of a model? I've found the count triangles plugin.. and the mark verts plugin.. cannot seem to find anywhere to count the actual verticies.

Just a short note about blender. To learn blender, one must be able to SEE the interface.. it's just too small for those of us that are visually challenged which is why sketchup is the program of choice for me.. a UI that is both user friendly and visible with crappy eyesight.
I gave blender a shot about 3 years ago.. failed and someone told me that a lot had changed/updated since then so a couple months ago, I tried again and could not find any way to make text and buttons large enough to make the program user friendly for me.
I hope the new owners choose to leave the interface alone.

Well, the first I check on a new app is the preferences panel
      Please, try DPI=100 for instance.
Don't forget to click "save as default" if you're happy.

WHOA! nobody ever told me that DPI had any relation to something besides printing. I'm thrilled! Now I can actually SEE what I don't understand (yet)

      tysm!

I use Sketchup for 3D Virtual World Content creation mostly, but I also it for designing floor plans for my new house I want to build. I also use it for tutorials, but again, those are just for the VW creating community.

I would use it for animations, but in its current state, animations can't be created or exported into the VW's I create for. 😞

The poll mostly covers things I do not use it for, but I did choose the 5 that I thought related to me. πŸ˜„

I love this tool! It worked great this morning - several times.
This afternoon - 4 bugsplats in a row, right as I click the second group.
      I even reinstalled it.. splat.
I haven't changed anything in the program.. no updates on anything since using SU this morning. I don't know what I'm doing to cause the splat.
Have you used Model Info > Statistics > Fix Problems... ?
Have you tried moving the draped object a tiny amount ? Sometimes small facets cause issues.
Alternatively Scale everything up x10 or x100 and retry. Scale down afterwards...
      Report back... πŸ˜•

      Back after testing.

I had not used the statistics fix, but do use TT's cleanup frequently.

moved objects.. centered on origin.. nudged.

scaled up by 10 and 100

      all splats 😞

    • RE: My Sketchup wishes

took me long enough to get around to posting in this thread.. OG and I both create models for NuVera and I understand everything she said up there. (she's my sketchup enabler.. taught me the program)
I have horrible vision and sketchup is the only program with an interface I can actually see to work with.
Texturing spheres without stretching.. yeah.. have not been able to do that either.
The way I get around that single face triangulation is to first group the offensive face that's a crap load of polys.. then break out ThomThom's Vertex tool plugin and make that face coplaner. (OG.. yes.. I tolja I bought a plugin) Can't say enough good things about that tool but I digress. After making it coplaner, those extra dividing lines can be erased without distorting the model or losing faces.

I* have my own little wish list for sketchup.. which involves things I really don't understand but would learn. Skinning and rigging of avatar like models*. Currently, sketchup is the red-headed step child for virtual world clothing and animation creation without those abilities. Now if there are plugins that do this, I have not found them.
My other wish is that I could use a two keystroke shortcut. Maybe this can be done but as I recall, I got an error or it just wouldn't take a second key for a shortcut. Example.. for say count triangles (good plugin) I'd like to use CT but it won't let me.

    • Previous version installation help

I've been pulling my hair out trying to use M2... not sure if I have plugin issues (went and got them fresh, not copied from one folder to another) and I still get more program crashes than tolerable.
I have the installers for 8.03.117 and 8.0.4811 - both worked great for me.
It seems that when I installed 8.0.11752, it overwrote both of those older versions - even though I installed it in a different place on my hard drive.
Now, I'm trying to reinstall either of those other version 8s and I get the message that sketchup found a newer version and won't let me install without uninstalling M2 first. My templates and plugin folder are just rebuilt and I'd rather not loose them again.
How can I hide the newer version from these installers so I can get a version that doesn't crash on me every time I go past 10 minutes or so working with the program?

      Found it! it's called babelfish.rb
I've been dropping ones I didn't know what they were in.. reopening the program to see if it was the right one then taking them out as I went and that one did it.

Might anyone know if bomb.rb works in M2 or it's just me that doesn't have it appearing on the dropdown?
