RE: A new home for SketchUp
I sincerely hope that there are going to be ties between SketchUp and 3D scanning. This was my first thought when I saw Trimble mentioned, but it sounds too good to be true!

Community Project
Hey,
Just wondering if this forum has ever done/sometimes does group projects? Obviously you'd need enough people, but I think it'd be really cool and a good practice opportunity to do something we usually wouldn't at work!
Thoughts? -
RE: A new home for SketchUp
I was glad as soon as I read this. So long as all current functionality remains, if more advanced stuff gets added what's the problem? I've never used trimble gear, although know a land surveyor who does

RE: ALienware x51?
Hmm yeah. I don't know what it's like where you live, but for me it's £££ cheaper to go with a smaller custom builder. I use PC Specialist here in the UK. They are by no means small, one of the bigger pc builders in the country, but by no means alienware in size!
Anyway yeah, I'm sure you'll save money and therefore afford a better spec if you find a good one closer to you. -
RE: Knotty wood texture?
Ah I see. I never look on arroway (til now)
Edit**
I reverse image searched that texture on google images and it came back with this
http://files.arroway-textures.de/catalog/images/maps/previews/preview_wood-035_scotch-pine-knot-2_d.jpg
You've probably already noticed it on arroway, but a nice alternative if you need a higher res one.
Thanks

RE: Knotty wood texture?
Thanks for the links
Hmm I can't find anything with knots that isn't plank! I'll keep looking, must be something there... -
Knotty wood texture?
Modeling a room and for the doors and skirting I need a knotty wood texture, as in the picture I've attached.
Don't suppose anyone has one I could use? Not sure how to get it seamless looking too as it's over such a big area. And seeing a uniform row of knots on the skirting would be awful!
Thanks

RE: "The file was created in a newer version of SketchUp ......"
Have you accidentally opened it un SU8 and hit save, which would then make it a SU8 file? What happens if you open it in SU8, hit save as, and set the filetype to sketchup 7?

RE: Octane for Sketchup?
Hi KJC
Thanks for the reply. Can you give me a more info on the 2 exporters?
Also, what type of speeds do you get? I'd like to use Pathtracing when I can to avoid the direct lighting kernel -

Finally more information on this edition of cryengine. I'm dreading the cost/licensing though!

Octane for Sketchup?
Hey everyone
As I've mentioned in another thread, I'm considering Octane render. It's a nice unbiased option and the direct lighting kernel is a good quick option that gives me nicer results than what I currently get with Podium! I have a gtx 580 and I may get another one to see how much of a speed increase I get
However the trial doesn't let you use the sketchup plugin. Unless I'm mistaken TIG of this parish made this plugin? Which is a good sign! But I'm still curious as to how well it works. Does anyone here have experience?
I'm only worried as I've had trouble with importing and exporting between programs in the past, even when it should apparently work fine.Any help appreciated
Mike

RE: Make the Workflow Jump to 3DSMax?
I've been rethinking things too. I've just really discovered octane, and the demo has really impressed me (I have a 3gb gtx 580 though, which is a popular card among octane users). If I get round to buying and it continues to impress I'll be sticking with sketchup.

RE: Cryengine 3 free finally available
Ah! You are frankly a legend.

RE: Not sure if this is inspiring or depressing...
Something tells me a gigaparsec would be too far from the origin

RE: NOX render
I loaded up the wooden boxes test scene. Can't seem to get any type of realtime view (wireframe or something). Have to render to see anything. However I do really like the quality it gives you!
