Hmm, it's definitely confusing due to the many different charges people put on their work, and then there's the variable of quality etc.
I'm in contact with an architecture firm at the moment who claims their current 3D guys charge too much, and take too long (they said a week..). I'm curious as to what they were paying

RE: Professional SU-ers, what do you charge?
Hmm, it seems 3D is worth more in general than I thought.
Not surprising I didn't have a clue, I only know how to do any through hobby. -
RE: Professional SU-ers, what do you charge?
Interesting...But with that conclusion it seems extortionate for a set of stills! Unless I've got this industry all wrong
-
RE: Professional SU-ers, what do you charge?
Ah yes all that does make sense
Then again I'll be working that out myself and just giving fixed quotes to the clients, rather than keep them on the line and charging them laterI really have no idea of the vauge range though
My role at work is changing lately, and I do have time to do this 3D in work hours. I can't seem to find consistant prices online though, I hear very different things from place to place, from cheap for stills to hundreds and hundreds, its very confusing
I understand people don't want to say their rates though, so I'll have to keep hunting.. -

Hmm didn't think of by the hour..
I think I'd prefer per job to make it simpler for me to fit round my day to day work -
Professional SU-ers, what do you charge?
Hey everyone
In my current job, I've recently started implementing sketchup and podium to my workflow (I work for a Loft Conversion company based in Cardiff - Wales).
I'm looking into freelancing for other companies and just wondering what experiences you have doing so?
At first I'll just be doing rendered stills of interiors & exteriors.
I'm thinking of targeting architecture firms, and planning consultants (who don't already regularly offer 3D services to their clients).
Currently I've only done 3D for my current job (though the company is a big player round here, my portfolio is obviously limited!).
I have no idea what the going rates are for stills at this sort of level.
Does anyone else here freelance in a similar way to this? Not just UK, I'm curious as to everyone's experiences doing this.
Thanks in advance to anyone who de-confuses me!
Thanks

So, does one do a walk through with a shotgun/machine gun?
That doesn't take much effort to remove at all. Can't remember how but I worked it out in a minute or two the other day.
Also I'm not sure about the file still showing .0
Maybe playups dev forgot to change itPichuneke, cool video, you should throw on some textures I think it'd look cool

PlayUp has had a great update!

This will make the process much more straightforward

Now, whether you're in SB2, SB3 or the CE3 Standalone SDK, your material paths in the MTL files will be pointing to the right place. You should no longer have to reassign materials in the Material Editor. Also, if you apply SketchUp colors instead of textures, it will no longer look so washed out in CE3.

RE: Cryengine 3 free finally available
No the free version is fully functional for non commercial works. There is a tutorial on playup website

RE: Cryengine 3 free finally available
Hey
If you have the Cryengine 3 SDK, then that's it.
You don't install anything if i remember correctly, you just extract it to a folder called "CryENGINE_v3_3_5_2456_FreeSDK" (well it was for me anyway)
Within that there are folders called Bin32 and Bin64. Choose the one relevant to your system and launch the "Editor" (orange logo) -
RE: Sketchup & realtime rendering (freelancing)
best I could come up with.
I'm trying cryengine atm. Having trouble using it even with playup plugin! the plugin itself works hit and miss for me and the texture process is tedious. I'm desperate to work this one out

Oh sorry I wasnt clear the 580 is a 3gb model, I have 16gb system ram

RE: Roof tiles without textures?
Hello Evan,
thanks for replying to my thread I'll look into your software -
RE: Sketchup & realtime rendering (freelancing)
I've found Lumion to work great. The only problem with it (and lumenrt) is lack of artificial lighting. Twinmotion has this but the trial of that hasn't worked well for taking sketchup models so I can't really judge it.
A co-worker of mine even has Revit. but the .skp file import in revit wouldn't take my skp files :S -

Here some screenshots (made with snipping tool)
6th image circles area displayed in 5th
Very good if I could work out a decent workflow from sketchup...

RE: Cryengine 3 free finally available
I can't try until work tomorrow as that's where my good rig is. What spec/result you been using/getting? I have a single 580.
The interface has similarities with the crysis sandbox editor that I've used for 1. It's not hard once you know as they say The main thing was going through the database of assets etc. that were organised in confusing ways if you were just looking to place objects to make a map.
I assume this is alot harder though as its a game engine.I'll post here tomorrow after work if I get time to work some stuff out. If it works well this could be a fantastic visualization tool for many sketchuppers!

RE: Roof tiles without textures?
Thanks for that Mike
In the video the tile is very simple. Do you have that plugin? Anyone who could quickly test or give experience is great. -
RE: Cryengine 3 free finally available
Good stuff!
I may try it, how much is a license I wonder? If it turns out really great it may be a wise investment for me in the long run...
I'm looking for a software to do realtime walkthroughs of interiors. Wonder if this is suitable..
How is your experience with it? Ease of use? Performance on your specs? Integration with sketchup based workflow?
I'm too impatient to wait to find out for myself! -
RE: Roof tiles without textures?
Hmm good to have more opinions.
Instantroof plugin sounded like the solution until I noticed their site/videos don't mention using your own tile. If it can be done though that'd be great. Just instancing myself though doesn't sound too hard. Why do some of you think it'd be better to use textures? Would 3d tiles be too taxing on my system?

RE: Roof tiles without textures?
Hey TIG - Thanks for those tips
Yeah I'll try to be sensible! How do I set up the instancing of components? Or is this a silly question that I could find out on my own (Google's)
Can't believe I haven't got round to this yet, but a client who is special forces is leaving today so I had to prioritize his interior
