V3.3a is showing it's expired even after downloading the latest one (3.3a is what the link it takes me to so i assume it's the most recent)

On a side note having it expire every month or two is very annoying. I can get why it might prevent people from complaining about older version but it causes more problems than it solves.

    • Sketchup closing with no crash report (no bugsplat)

      Hey,
I've just bought a brand new laptop and it continually crashes, usually without giving a bug report, and mostly at random times; regardless if a large file, a small file or even sometimes an empty file is open. The file sizes I've tried range from a few Mb to 150 Mb, time to crash ranges from a few seconds to about 15 minutes. On occasion I get a bug splat, I'm not sure on which files to share if the bug report helps so I attached some files that i think are related to the bug report.

      OS - Windows 8.1
      Processor - Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-5200U CPU @ 2.20GHz, 2195 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
      RAM - 8GB DDR3
Harddrive - 256GB SSD - 2x 456GB HDD (so far all my files are on my SSD)
GPU - Geforce GTX 950M (downloaded newest available driver)
      System Manufacturer ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC.
      System Type x64-based PC

      Running sketchup pro - 2015 64bit

I've tried turning OpenGL hardware acceleration on and off and it doesn't seem to make a difference in how long it takes to crash. Right now i'm trying the 32bit version of sketchup to see if anything changes.
Any help or ideas would be greatly apperciated!

    • RE: Creating Components Crashes Sketchup (HELP!)

I save SKP files in a folder under documents with a few sub-folders. I did install some import-export plugins but they didn't work so i just removed them but the problem still persisted. The problem seems to have fixed itself so I have no idea what's going on.

Creating Components Crashes Sketchup (HELP!) ---

      Computer specs*

      Intel i7-4820K CPU @3.70GHz

      16 GB RAM

      64 bit windows 7 OS

      HDD 2TB

      Geforce GTX 760

The problem - every time i create a component sketchup (sketchup pro 2015) stops responding and I have no idea what's going on. The thing that confuses me most is that I haven't changed anything significant on my computer but the problem seems to have come out of nowhere. Even stranger is that i can create components with no problem on fresh unsaved files but i cannot make components on saved files. It seems to work alright with groups though.

Pleaes help, I'm completely unable to continue progress until I can get this fixed.

      regards,
      Christian S.

    • Solid tools and co-planar edges

I'm not sure of how aware people are of this occurring since it only really affects higher poly models, but whenever i use the solid tools it removes all co-planar/semi co-planar edges. This is extremely annoying especially when using artisan tool, I've done some experimenting on my own and it turns out a lot of the co-planar edges the solid tools remove, those co-planar edges aren't actually co-planar, juts very very very very close to co-planar (sometimes i scale up a flat surface perpendicular to it's face up to 100,000 times before seeing how the surface really isn't co-planar). My complaint is that it seems like an unnecessary step that the tool takes, since it's just a glorified intersection tool (to my knowledge at least).

If my explanation doesn't make sense then i can upload a few files to illustrate it, my main question is whether or not this is a necessary evil for the tool to work this way.

      Hey,

I'm trying to download Roundcorner for sketchup 2015 on windows
I've tried downloading it on sketchucation's plugin downloader
and everytime i try and find it it doesn't show up anywhere. I've
checked the toolbars menu and the extensions tab under preferences
and it's not there. Every time I start up sketchup it gives me this error.
Is this plugin supposed to work with sketchup 2015? Let me know if there's
any more information i can add to help you help me.

      Regards,

      Christian S.

    • Deleting vertices - req. help

Apologies if this is in the wrong area, sketchucation format has changed since i last visited.

Basically my question is how do you delete stray vertices along a line? I have quite a few (100+) stray vertices in my entire mesh and i don't have time to use the move tool or erase every line and retrace it. Is there a simple workaround or script that anyone knows about?
Normally this wouldn't be an issue but the model i'm trying to make has to be subdivided so the extra vertices cause quite a mess.
      Regards,
      Christian

Figured out the problem, turns out it's from autosaving, i have it set to autosave every minute or so. I'd imagine having an SSD would fix the problem to an extent since my HDD is relatively slow.

    • RE: Increasing Sketchup's Performance?

Here's the two stats on the different models.
      32mb model
      1mil edges
      1200 component definitions
      6500 component instances

      26mb model
      1.6mil edges
      681 component definitions
      6291 component instances

I'm more looking for a way to improve hardware acceleration on my nice new computer which seems to not be utilizing all of its nice new hardware. Workarounds for utilizing the model more efficiently isn't very important since I already have plenty of experience using components to reduce the load on my computer. I do like the idea of using a proxy though.

The original post didn't really pertain to rendering so i'd rather stay on topic too...

    • Increasing Sketchup's Performance?

      Sketchup Pro

I have a few questions regarding sketchup pro (2013), mainly i'm curious whether or not it can take advantage of my hardware more than sketchup 8 currently can. I already have hardware acceleration and although I'm working on a pretty big model I'd imagine my computer should handle it with ease.

Hardware that i know of are
      2TB SATA 6Gb/s (7,200RPM) 64MB Cache
      i7-4820K CPU (3.70GHz)
      windows 7 64bit
      16gb RAM quad channel DDR3 (1600MHz)
      NVIDIA GeForce

It has blue LEDs for extra boosted speed =p

I've been using sketchup for 7 or 8 years now and i was hoping that this new computer would be able to handle virtually any sized model but something tells me that there's something going on with sketchup that prevents it from utilizing all of my hardware, I doubt sketchup pro would fix that so is there any other options available to improve hardware acceleration? I already have hardware acceleration on. The sketchup help website recommended "emulation mode" but i have no clue what that is. (http://help.sketchup.com/en/article/36235)

      I use components very efficiently.
      I use layers efficiently too.
I don't normally use textures or images or even more than a few materials.
I use the most basic style available.
      I'm using sketchup 8
I purge unused whenever I think I need to.
currently the slow file i'm working with is 26mb but I have another 32mb file that runs just fine.
The attached file shows model stats.

Any suggestions for increasing the performance of sketchup would be greatly appreciated, I apologize if this problem has already been solved in another post.

    • Tutorial Request-making a human with artisan

I've seen some people make some nice human figures,
not with artisan but i'm sure the program could help quite a bit.
i'm looking to make a posable one to use as a size
reference and to add some nice sci-fi armor to it.

Ways you could help me are by finding a tutorial already
on sketchucation, or maybe just a quick comment on this post
to give me some information. I've been using sketchup for about
6 years so once i find a tutorial it shouldn't be too hard for me
to find out how to make it.

      Thanks!

I wouldn't normally mind this but it seems to pop a window saying "Access to 0.skb was denied." up every few minutes and i have to close it every time, which is pretty annoying...If it helps to know, i've been downloading a few plugins recently and that seems to have caused the problem. If no one knows it's not a huge problem cause i could just install sketchup again and it will probably go away.
      help would be much appreciated!
