For instance, take Eneroth Tube (trial) from the Extension Warehouse.

      Fredo

      Could not find Eneroth Tube, but Eneroth Pipe gave me this after install;

      Error Loading File C:/Users/mgfranz/AppData/Roaming/SketchUp/SketchUp 2016/SketchUp/Plugins/ene_pipe/main.rbe
      Failed to read RBE/RBS file.

So obviously SU 2016 cannot read .rbe files...

I'm sorry we haven't [yet] resolved this mess.
We don't write SketchUp - or Windows - we just use it !

Have you tried the following ?

      Fully uninstall SketchUp nnnn....

Find all of that SketchUp version's residual folders in:

      C:/Program Files/SketchUp/SketchUp nnnn/

      C:/ProgramData/SketchUp/SketchUp nnnn/

and the User's AppData path e.g.

      C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\SketchUp\SketchUp nnnn\SketchUp\

      and delete them ALL...***

      Then reinstall SketchUp:
      using the installer's exe file':
      Right-click > Context-menu > "Run as administrator"

***Note that some folders are 'hidden'.
To access them - either reset your Windows Explorer > Folder Options to see them, or copy+paste the folder path into a Windows Explorer top-bar _enter to access it...

Fully uninstalled SU using Windows 10 Control Panel.
      Deleted sub-folders in AppData.
Ensured all SU folders were gone in ProgramFiles.
Ran CCClean on registry to ensure nothing was left behind.
      Rebooted
Ran install from Download folder for fresh install of SU with "Run as Admin".
Deleted .rbx files for Fredo6 from Download.
Started SU Extension MGR from inside SU.
      Downloaded Fredo6 v. 8.1.
      Installed from Extension MGR.
      Closed and restarted SU.
      Same errors.

Something in the .exe is preventing .rbe files from loading... I doubt it's an issue with Fredo6 since the .rb files run fine, maybe it's time to go back to SU2014...

The error is clearly a 'permissions issue'...
These happen after an incorrect installation of the exe file...

Well since this issue is only with encrypted Ruby files that only started with SU2016 I don't know what to do. It's not an install issue, I have Removed and Installed as Admin twice so obviously something with the install routine is faulting. Could their be something left behind in the registry from previous builds that could be causing Sketchup.exe from loading .rbe files?

I found a previous build of Fredo in .rb files and they load and run fine.

I don't have an explanation why rbe files cannot be read in certain configurations of Sketchup.

Maybe you should uninstall Sketchup from the Windows uninstall feature (in Control Panel), and then reinstall with "run as admin".

Are the other plugins "working fine" also scrambled as rbe?

      Fredo

Very good observation, the other extensions are all .rb files. I will try using Windows Uninstall.

      I also tried moving all plugins to the ProgramData folder instead of the AppData folder with the following errors reported;

      Error Loading File C:/ProgramData/SketchUp/SketchUp 2016/SketchUp/Plugins/Fredo6_!LibFredo6/top_LibFredo6.rbe

The fail to read seems to be due to a wrong installation of Sketchup, that is without a "run as an administrator" on the install exe file.

      Fredo

Using the install.exe in my Downloads folder, I "Ran as Admin", chose Repair, let it run but still get the errors. I shutdown SU, then using the install.exe I "Ran as Admin" and chose Uninstall, let it finish and then restarted my system. Once system restarted, I went back to the download folder, "Ran as Admin" the install.exe for a fresh install, once finished I restarted my system, opened SU and tried installing fredo6 and RoundCorner using Preferences>Extensions. if this has worked there should now be two Sketchup icons in the recommended programs section, if so, click the second one and ok

As I said, it works for me. Both look the same but one will open SU8 and the other SU2013

True, it is a bit confusing because they both look the same. Try this.
If you have added SU8 from the google folder you'll probably find it gives you two Sketchup 2013 icons in the Recommended Program list, if so Choose the other one and try again.
It works for me, they look the same but one will open SU8.

I have tried that, but the only Recommended Program that shows up is 2013. And SU 8 is not listed when I check Other Programs.

"You can open a SKP by highlighting its icon and right-click > context-menu > 'Open with', and then choose the SketchUp version from the pop-out list - if it's v2013 format it can't open in v8 SketchUp etc."

The file versions are all SU 8, only one file has been saved in 2013. When I right click and try to set Open With> SketchUp 8, the version does not display in the list, only 2013. So I don't know if this is an issue with 2013 and how it registers or with Win 7.

    • Cannot reset file association after SU 2013 install

I currently run SU Pro 8, I wanted to trial run SU 2013, my OS is Win 7 64. By default my .skp files are all associated with SU 2013, but I want to change the default program to SU 8 however no matter what I try to do they always open with 2013. I have done the Open>Default Program route, I have gone through the registry and changed the default path to C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Google SketchUp 8, but when I double click on a .skp file it still opens with 2013. When I right click and try to change the Open With>Browse> and select Google 8/SketchUp.exe the only option I get it 2013.

So the only way I can open a .skp in SU 8 right now is to open the SU 8 program from the Desktop or Start and manually locate the file I want to open, is there a way to change the path in Win 7 or do I have to just uninstall 2013?

    • Clearing Proper Animation

I have ran into a problem with Proper Animation that I can't figure out how to solve. I have a model with a number of components that I am trying to animate with Smooth and Proper. I follow all the required steps to Set Position of the embedded component I want to animate, however when I right click on the selected component there is already a number of positions set that I think is causing the problems of why I can't get the animation to build correctly. I have tried this model on both XP and W7 with both Proper versions 1.08 and 1.09 with the same results.

How do you "Reset" Proper Animation so that it is starting in a empty state?

I have attached the model in question. Basically what I want to do is show a door in the initial closed position then a smooth open position.

How do I fix that so that the animation moves as it should?

It doesn't? See, I learned something else...

I'm sure there are a few issues with the original drawing, I slapped it together in less than an hour without the carvings.

I did take another look at the fan component and found a number of mistakes that I can correct. Playing with it now and am found a number of edges that did not line up to a plane, fixing them and I was able to get a partial intersect with the face. Half of the fans are still not intersecting which is strange since they are exact duplicates of each other...

The gaps are difficult to see because you're working with profiles set to 3. If I have some time this evening I'll see if I can make a tutorial to show you how to do it and get it to work.

That would be awesome! In the mean time I'll see what I can do to find those open face items. But shouldn't the Intersect have placed all the closed faces of the fan component on the surface face I selected?
