    • RE: Intersect Problem

Thanks Dave, I fixed that issue, (actually had to create a new component of fans), but it still won't intersect. The fans can be closed and I can create a face out of them but they will just not intersect to a face. What am I doing wrong?

No, it was my bad, had to configure the MIME for the directory.

    • Intersect Problem

OK, I got my little carving done, only took about 4 hours... JK, it was a learning curve.

But I am having a problem getting the component to intersect with a face of my model. I have tried everything that I can understand, but nothing I do seems to want to allow me to intersect the component with the model so I can clean out the inside of the carvings.

I tried exploding the components, selecting all, tried all three of the Intersect methods in SU7, in SU8 the Intersect option states that there are no solids in the model to intersect.

      Pic and .skp attached.

OK, figured out what I was doing wrong, I wasn't following the 15 degree line with holding the mouse button down.

But how did you make 6 separate new lines in one click like that?

Never mind, got that figured out too... ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Maybe this would give you some ideas about how to make those tapered flutes? The ones I did are all the same and, compared to your example, inside out but the process would be similar. You only need to draw half of it of course.

Dave, I'm having a hard time doing the rotation to create the "cone" along the 15 degree line as described in your videos. I created the curved and welded line that is to become the "petal" of the fan, along the blue axis. Selected the curved line then snapped the red axis with the rotate tool, but this is where I get lost, I must be missing a step somewhere cause when I try to rotate no matter what I try I end up with cylinder, it won't use the 15 degree line as it's rotation point.

I hope this explanation makes sense.

    • Simulate a Wood Carving?

Take a look at this image,

      http://www.invitinghome.com/Appliques/wood_carvings_pic/carving_wood_c23.jpg

Ya see the center clam shell carvings, the tapered flutes? Is it possible to duplicate these in a concentric 90 degree layout? Basically I want to create a 90 degree corner block that contains a tapered carving similar to the tapered flutes in the pic. A repeating concentric pattern would be great.

I know how to create flutes, but making them tapered and going from full depth to almost no depth is killing me.

    • RE: Anyone have a copy of CrownMoldingGalore?

d12dozr, thanks for the tip. That fixed it. Updated to 7.1.6860 and the issue went away. It's funny, since I installed MS SQL a week ago, a number of applications have started doing odd things, loosing registration codes, dropping function of certain features, etc.. Stupid Microsoft installers...

No it's not, but those are even better than what I was looking for.
Here is a screen shot of the file I was looking for and the original file that does not work right. In the third row down, and the 6th and 7th crown profiles in from the left, try to click on the face of the extruded end, see how you cannot select the profile? It's weird huh? I use to be able to select any profile and drag it into any other open .skp

    • Anyone have a copy of CrownMoldingGalore?

There use to be floating around a .skp called CrownMoldingGalore.skp which had about 50 different profiles of crown and cornice molding but I can't find it anymore. Anyone have a copy laying around?

For some reason, the copy I have doesn't function anymore, I am unable to select faces. When I try to select a end face, the drawing acts like the face doesn't exist and will select the element behind the face. I don't know if this is a file issue or my copy of SU is flakey.

      Thanks

    • RE: [Plugin] Wood working rubys Update

I cannot get the plugins to work, I installed the directory woodwrk2 to the plugins directory, and copied the runwoodwrk.rb file to the plugin directory but nothing shows up.

One thing that does concern me, the runwoodwrk.rb states that sketchup.rb is required, I don't have that .rb in my plugin directory, but no errors are thrown either.

    • Cannot Modify Solid created with Sketchy Solids

I created a Capsule using Sketchy Solids. I purposely scaled the solid 10x for clarity then I sliced the solid in half with Section Plane using "Slice model at Section". I then placed the half capsule upon a flat face which was larger than the slice. After I exploded the components I saved them as a single component which can be found at http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=197efe8d8993094f46562fb347c7b4e9.

What I cannot do is "move" the flutes down or up in the board, if I select just the round portion of the flute and Move them, it's like a piece of the item is being left behind, therefore the move looks like crap. I have Intersected everything but it's like the Solid is a stand alone item that cannot be edited, like it's locked or something. Is this normal? Can it be fixed?

      Thanks,

    • Whitewash or Milk Paint finish?

I'm trying to duplicate a milk paint or whitewash finish on some furniture, is there a plugin or utility that can be used to duplicate this type of finish? I know I can just create a material image of a board with the desired look, but to be realistic it needs to have worn spots placed at my discretion.

Just use one of the many applications that will add an Always On Top menu item to the titlebar. Some even add another button to the titlebar.

Even my nVidia driver can add such buttons and such. I like to keep it simple however. I always forget which button is for what.
      ๐Ÿ˜„

The Windows Calculator does not have that option, so what I wrote will do just fine.

I put together a "sticky calculator" that sits in the lower right of the display, it can be Closed or Lowered. Simple calculations only, Scientific functions to be implemented later.

Here is a screen shot and the download link if anyone is interested.

I saw that one but it didn't do what I wanted. The windows one works just fine but I wanted a sticky one that would stay on top.

I will probably have to write one in VB.NET.

    • Math Calculator

I have been trying to find a simple Math Calculator that I can use as a plugin. I could write a .NET application that could always be on top but I was hoping someone has already done the deed...

A simple calculator like the Windows one would be fine. I don't want to use the Ruby Console...
