    • Mac Pro graphic card upgrade SU7-8 help needed

      Hello,
We've noticed our MacPro with GT120 Geforce 512 mb is way slower manipulating complex files in SU than a low end dell with much less fancy graphic card...It comes to a point where adding shadows is just undoable, or rotating scenes etc bring the spinning wheels for 10-15 seconds each time. ( Open GL settings set to use hardware acceleration and fast feedback).

I assume this comes from the graphic card acceleration capacities, and wonder if any of you could recommend a fast card for us to upgrade to.
      Thank you
      Nils

    • RE: Material folder organisation... + thoughts

Yes this is what we're talking about> the material folder and the useless preset materials are rebuild whatever you do upon restart/reboot of the software....I wonder if we could get an option to get rid of them for ever so we can choose what folders we want and what is inside...

By the way the biggest pain is the slowness of the material pannel when u reach 30+ materials in each with 200 kb images ( small)so slow it becomes unusable...has it progress in the SU 8 version ?

    • Scale tool precision

      Hi all,
I'm trying to import a jpg image and resize it precisely onto the model. I've figured out i need to rescale it down 0,9939 to 1 but it seems the scale tool only accepts increments of 0,01... Is there really no way to get more precision out of it?

    • RE: Material library issues...slowness..

Humm..seems this topic is not a big hype stuff among you...

I have tested the #1 issue on a PC version of SU, and strangely, SU does not recreate his libraries when you delete them and replace them with your own. Is it any way to get the same results on the mac version?
      Someone?
( please do not let me down on those #1 and #2 ..i feel like ripley in alien..)

    • Material library issues...slowness..

      HI all,
I'm using SU for arch design, and try to get around the software limitations to be able to:

      1. create and manage my own material libraries ( read: get really rid of SU original materials)
      2. be able to use it without extreme slowness of the material window

What is happening is when i get rid of the SU materials in the google folder, they keep coming back when i relaunch SU. Is there any way ( a template?) to be able to launch SU, make sure it only loads MY library? ( some materials get recreated in my own folders when they have the same names..)

Question 2 ( recurrent): I'm creating materials with jpg textures that i try to keep under 200 kb so they are not too heavy ( from originals that are between 2 and 5 Mb). Some of the library folders ( woods, concretes...) have around 80-90 textures and the material panel is sooo slow whenever i pop it up, scroll inside it, change folders etc, that i have a hard time working with efficiency..
Why is it so slow? What can I do to overrun that limitation?

      I'm on a Nehalem Mac Pro ( 2 x 2,26 GHz with 16 Gb Ram ). OSX 10.5.8 / SU 7.1.48

      thnx

    • RE: [Tutorial] Create a (TIN) from Surveyed Pts - using SU only

      Good lord!
      I've found it!
3D points from surveyors are often blocks in acad. When i imported them, i forgot that, and they were in SU still components!.
A simple select all + explode solved the issue and made it possible to triangulate!

      Relief!

      Sorry for the buzz!

    • RE: [Tutorial] Create a (TIN) from Surveyed Pts - using SU only

      Hi all
Its getting confusing: the script is installed and delaunay2 installed.
The file is imported from an autocad file with simple points that i put in Z coordinates in acad.
When imported in SU they appears as little crosses ( cannot succeed in zooming on them to see exactly), and when i try to triangulate them, the ruby says " Some objects of the selection aren't construction points". How is this possible since they are all similar and all points?
      Nothing happens then..

Is there any way i can resolve this?
I've put a sample from points ( acad) here if anyone has a hint!

    • RE: 2D export bug: random grey stripes appear on images

      yes i do
it might come from the way Maxwell plugin interferes with SU when it controls camera views then.
What i just do is use magic wand in pshop, with 1 neighbour pixel setting ( neighbour pixel setting off) then i can remove the grey stripes...

Hope this can be solved in future SU or MR versions!

    • 2D export bug: random grey stripes appear on images

      Hi all
Am exporting 2D versions of my model in hidden lines ( no color) so i can grab the lines in pshop and do a mix with the 3D that i render in a third party software.
Since i'm working with big size images in 3D ( 2000-4000 pixels wide) i am asking SU to export 3500 pixel wide images at 150 dpi.
Problem is all images come out with grey stripes, randomly put on the image.

      What is the problem?
      How can i solve it?

Am on OSX SU7 pro version on a Nehalem mac with a decent video card so wonder what happens...

      thnx for hints!

    • Material folder organisation... + thoughts

      Hello

      I'm on mac SU7, i'm trying to:

      1. get rid of preset libraries: i am manually deleting them inside SU, then getting rid of the folder once its empty. When i relaunch SU, it has recreated all preset folders, and rewrote deleted textures even in folders where i created my own...How can i remove folders and texture permanently?

      2. backup my material folders: i just can't seem to be able to find the right place where its stored on the mac...Please can someone tell me where components are stored ( i want to replace preset by mine) and where materials are stored too so i can back up my precious own materials.

Also would like to know why the library ( materials) gets so slow with 50-60 materials that all use small jpg's (max 250 kb each).. I'm on a octo Nehalem mac pro with 16 gb ram and find it a bit strange to have to wait 30 secs between material libraries switch ( from lets say concretes to woods etc...)

      thnx much

      N.

PS: would love a way to import a folder containing selected jpgs and create direct textures from that folder..

    • Materials organisation in macosX+ bug

      SU7 / Mac OSX
Am having a trouble with materials:
editing a material, loading an image #1, then applying it on a face
When i edit and remove the image, change for a new one (#2), the texture keeps applying #1 despite purge unused etc...any hint

Second question: I want to get rid of all SU preset materials to create my own with my folders etc...where are the original folders stored in mac os ( cant find them) and where shall i copy /create my own..? its mysterious !

    • SU7 OSX Maxwell render material question

I am having trouble transfering my custom made skm library to SU7 ( HD/library/SU7/etc folder)
When i'm creating a new skm, it does not appear like the other skm ( with .exe icon) but blank icon instead, and i'm having troubles with maxwell render intereaction since i moved partially to SU7 ( renders are failing, and textures are missing..)

Would like to know how you are organised with textures folder in SU and MR so it works flawlessly within SU plugin using the automxm feature!
would also like to understand the difference in how skm's are organised and saved as compare to SU6..nothing is explained so far..

      thnx πŸ˜„

    • Component spray troubleshooting

      Hi all,
I have an issue using spray rb when using the selection option.
I select a face in a bigger face ( any scale from big ( 100x100m) to small ( 10mx10m) and want the components to be "dropped" on that face. With some settings i get the " u are about to add more than xxxx components are u sure"... with some others ( less spray) i get no message but with both nothing happens.
The rb works perfectly with other ways of spreading ( circle , path etc etc)
      any hint?

      thnx πŸ˜„

    • Aliasing the materials and component folder over a network

      Hello
I have just installed a very fast network and server at the office, and am considering having everyone ( 4 SU stations) using the same materials and component folder, located on the server. I have tried aliasing the remote material folder but it did not work...I could only add manually the original folder on the network and load it in SU, alas each family of material has to be opened by clicking on its folder ( no scrolling drop menu)
Is there any solutions regarding this? The idea is to always have an up to date component and materials folder on every SU computer.
      thnx

    • RE: Quality Materials

      hi
arroway textures are the best available, they are just VERY heavy ( big quality) to use in SU directly...each file is about 15-70 mb sometimes... for those that are just using SU ( and no render tool) i would not suggest getting them, but for the other lucky ones πŸ˜„ they rock!
