    • 360 Panos-Optimal SU Settings?

Are there native SU settings (not renderer-based) for a great 360 panorama? ie size of space or camera location within the scene? Parallel projection or perspective settings? Mind tend to look like viewing through the wrong end of a telescope
      TIA

Lovely 360 presentation of the apartment unit and exterior animation. Just wondering how long the processing took in Enscape for the 4 minute video?
      Thanks

    • RE: Brighter3d??

New B3D version 3.0.0 released this week

*To make your life better we created a brand new version of brighter3d using Visual Studio 2017 and latest raytracing engine, for you with more features:

      • SketchUp 2019 fully supported.
      • This version and all future versions are 64 bit only, giving us the possibility to utilize all your computer memory.
      • Introducing 360 camera rendering (for online view and Virtual Reality).
      • Superfast export of your scenes, with texture cache for the second and all following renders (your scenes will start to render faster than you can open them in SketchUp itself).
      • We've added a refresh button inside the rendering window (to speed up rendering different views without having to re-export the materials and geometry).
      • New license system: now you can revoke the license on one computer and activate it on another.
      • Render scene views: this feature allows you to setup several views (scene tabs) and render them easily one after another once you have set the required number of iterations.
You can prepare say 20 scene views and render them over night.
As always this update and all future updates are free for all PRO version users.*

I used the new 360 Panorama render for the model in the post above:

Also, if you have a Simlab Composer version compatible with your Sketchup version: download the SU14 version, open in Simlab Composer and save as a .skp

Thanks for the link, those look good.

Sorry if this sounds rude but, you would have a bigger audience for your models if you post them in an older skp format.

Thanks, Mike Not exactly sure what you mean by an older skp format. They're modeled in SU8 and uploaded as such but what happens after that for available download formats is somewhere in the 'Magic Sauce' SUWarehouse applies? Maybe I'm doing it wrong.

    • RE: SketchUp 2019 release

I still love Sketchup-it’s a comfortable, predictable tool. I’ve stayed with SU8 for personal projects and use SU18 PRO at work and there isn’t a whole lot of difference between the 2. In a way a good thing but what the heck has Trimble done with the revenue from sales and upgrades over the past 10(?) years.
It seems like the amazing plugin development community (not in house) have kept SU relevant but all that has allowed the core program to be left as is for the most part-kind of like why buy the cow if you get the milk for free. (Sorry. couldn’t think of a better analogy at the moment)
Jason_Maranto above said that it is the same reaction to every new version release-and I often thought the same thing. But humans are ever hopeful(naive) and adapt to disappointment eventually. Can you imagine what the reaction would have been if even half of peoples’ wishlist suggestions had been incorporated? Or a collaboration with the app developers to make major additions to the native SU tools. Ah well. I don't see that ever happening. Sketchup is not a well-loved dog at Trimble-it only gets thrown a bone every so often to stop it barking.

Just the native render options, alone, in this makes Sketchup look a little sad.... šŸ˜ž

It's -21C with a windchill of -30C here today so needed to model something cosy.
I understand that in Australia, today, you can cook a steak in your car in the shade 😲

    • RE: Help with material, maps - metallic

      Hi
I'm not a V-Ray user but will assume it works in a similar fashion to other renderers. In SU, create the pattern entity and assign with a unique colour name ie.Wallpaper-Arabesque-Silver. Then, I'm guessing here, assign that colour in V-Ray with a metallic property and adjust the reflectance or desired properties. If this isn't correct, I apologize for creating any confusion and hopefully a V-Ray user will step in.
      Best of Luck!

    • RE: Brighter3d??

Getting ambient lighting right is something I struggle with no matter what renderer I use.
For the following stills I made the ceiling a light emitter
      Colour: Ivory
B3D Material Settings: Set ceiling object to LIGHT / Temperature=Mercury Vapor Lamp /Light Power=20

These stills show the fine differences that develop the longer the file goes through more iterations but even a quick one is not bad. The longer it processes, the more the defined lighting components display.

Ray Tracing Iterations=10 Time to Process=85seconds

Ray Tracing Iterations=60 Time to Process=211seconds

Ray Tracing Iterations=120 Time to Process=402seconds

Ray Tracing Iterations=200 Time to Process=586seconds

I do, Pilou, paid version tho. I haven't tried to render an animation in it yet. B3D is a lot more user friendly.

    • RE: Brighter3d??

I've been using Brighter3D for about a month now and agree that there isn't a lot of info available on using the program. I suppose that as it is quite intuitive each user figures out what works best for them and the developer is really patient and helpful. The price is excellent with life time updates included.
When I have some time I plan on building my own library of materials based on the basic ones provided to cut down on re-inventing the wheel with each new setup to render.
I mostly use the program to render animations of interior designs-not a quick process, for sure, but I'm very pleased with the output and the flexibility of editing the rendered scenes pre stitching to an avi output. If there is a section you'd like to redo just edit the SU file as needed and re-render it will overwrite those scenes. Its very stable and have had maybe 2 Bugsplats.
Looking forward to the next version.

If you do get any tips or insights-perhaps post them here to help other users also.

Toned down the cheerfulness by 'switching' off the walls-I had somehow assigned them as emitters 😳 And indeed, dark goings on did manifest in the book's Wizard's Den.
It would be very cool if there was a way to add an animated gif (like your avatar) of a roaring fire in the fireplace.
