I found a third party application that allows one to add new commands for the magic mouse. I added a three finger click and assigned it the command 'Middle Click.' Started Sketchup and now I have the middle click functionality back. http://blog.boastr.net/

I found out from the source that the issue is by design. It has to do for when there are imperial and metric components mixed together under one parent shell. It had to be one or the other, and imperial won. So to answer my question and anyone else who stumbles across this... If your DC is in metric and you want to use this common trick to snap to increments =largest(100,round(current("LenX")/100)*100) You will need to apply an "inch to cm" multiplier of 2.54 to the current() function to avoid general screwiness when scaling. =largest(100,round((current("LenX")*2.54)/100)*100)

Unfortunately it would have to be installed on each machine. That's why I think you should tackle the math in that pdf I linked to Matt. Your method would be do-able inside a DC, without loading any scripts. Chris

very cool indeed. I think you should post this in the gallery section to get more attention to it. This is a very cool thing that dynamic components can do that I don't think most users even think is possible.

Thanks Scott, that makes sense. Interestingly... @matthew.robert said: I know that particular DC has one nested "tile" that copies and positions in both the x and y directions to create the grid. I had that wrong, the "GridTile" on the 3DWH does create rows first and then positions those rows. I created a little test to see if that way or the "X & Y" position method would be faster and it wasn't (probably because of what you say about child-formula-calculations). I would be curious if anyone can create a more efficient redraw method than the two examples in the attached .skp. Matt redrawRace.skp

Matt Interesting that you brought this up, because it has just started to happen to me, and it is only in SketchUp that it seems to want to save to this old file. First place I look though when I can't find the file icon.

Or vote/comment yourself. If enough people vote properly then the system will work.

As far as I investigated, using components in SU does not affect the size of the resulting KMZ file that much. In fact, I have just made a test and exported a SU file (with lots of components) into kmz. The one using components came out bigger than the one that I exported after exploding the components( and purging the components from the browser). See attatched file. I'm not too much in scripting but to my understanding, xml format (simple text files) cannot support components at all (Tomasz could confirm this - or anyone who regularly export into Kerkythea). Rename your kmz file to zip (that actually it is) and you will see a kml file in there. That's the geolocation info only. Now there's also a folder in there called Model or what (I'm too lazy to check) inside which there's a collada file (with dae extension) and the images if you used any. Both files (the dae and the kml) can be opened in a plain text editor and you will notice that in the collada file there's no info about components or anything. So as a final "verdict" - with excessive geometry instead of photos you cannot keep the size of a kmz file smaller when it comes to a certain level of details and complexity. I made some Gothic churches with ribbed vaults and window tracery and ended up with GE almost being unnavigatable when playing around with placing them. When a model loads, first the geometry loads and then the images (sometimes one by one). So you are already able to see things and navigate around while it is still loading. If you use excessive geometry, this will not be the case. A colonnade however should really be modelled for instance - you cannot substitute all detailing with images. You need to find a healthy balance between them. I hope I haven't been too exhaustive doric_coloumn.zip

Thanks for all the ideas everyone. Interestingly, I created a file with Mac SU that resulted in about a 700kb file size. I opened the exact same file in Windows, replaced the textures with the exact same image files, re-saved the sketchup file and the end file was 450kb! There is something weird going on in the Mac version. mc
