The first group of images are of a complex for Grand Praire, Texas - their new Public Safety Building and Senior Recreation Facility. We specialize in both of these building types. They are both situated on 5 man made lakes sitting on 1 square mile site.

      Public Safety building:
      Used SketchUp and Kerkythea.
      And finished building images.

It dawned on me the other day when Pete was asking about my modeling that I hadn't posted anything in the Gallery yet.
So, I'll try to post some stuff up at lunch over the next week or so to catch up my sketchup usage.

I'm a Design Architect. We (my firm) primarily use SketchUp for design work during Schematics as a fast tool to make frequent changes. Along the way Visualization has become important as well. Using Kerkythea, then Twilight and now Thea I am working on my photo realistic skills to convey the space to the client. Over the years clients have become more used to seeing photo realistic models and are now expecting that as part of the process...so we are working that into a typical design package. After the construction documents are finished we have been going back and using the drawings, Revit models to test the finishes and create final photo real images of their buildings and sometimes we hire out a 3d firm to compile a walk through to help promote the building if the client wants to pay for that service.

Has anyone reported or know of a fix for this?

On any project I have worked on - if I go to Window and Scenes to open the Scenes window it crashes instantly.

Also, the pallet windows won't stay put...thought someone mentioned this, don't know if there is a solution for that or not either. But, MAN is that annoying! πŸ˜•

      Running Pro 8.0.3117

      Thanks

I found this out Friday as well. Had brought in two or three instances of the map/terrain and started to freak out, until I right clicked and saw "unlock" - D'oH! LOL

Hey guys - great hanging with you Thursday night and the demo was amazing.
If I wasn't swamped with deadlines, I'd load up the demo disk and start checking it out. Look forward to your tutorials - they will help out tremendously in getting us up and running to test out the software.

BTW - to the New Beetle owner in the family...www.newbeetle.org - I think you said it was a 2000...we're here if you need some help keeping that baby alive! πŸ˜‰

    • RE: Anyone attended the SU9 brainstorming session?

They kept generalizing the 64 bit conversation the entire event - evident by the "Keep making SketchUp Faster", instead of simply putting down - move SU to 64 bit.

    • RE: The new Render[In] plugin

I got to say that I was looking forward to their demo, but it left me not wanting to spend the time to download and try it out.
When the answer to all the audiences questions (the typical ones that SU users would ask of any render program) the typical answer was, "Don't worry about it, it will work" instead of explaining why they understood the question and that it would be an issue they were working on...or if they didn't have the information that they would check into it.

They stated that there wasn't a problem with 32 bit because it somehow ran on the Artlantis engine outside of SketchUp at 64 bit, I'm not sure how that works, but that was their explanation to the question of the limits of 32 bit.

The clouds and change in day was about the only thing I noted as "Cool" in my notes.
Seemed like it had lots of limits to texture manipulation when compared to Twilight.

I was definitely under-impressed. The "real time" render was interesting, but I had just seen that feature in the Thea demo - so I am hoping that the real time render is a trend and products like Twilight might be featuring this in the future.

Oh Hell Yeah! πŸ˜„ As long as Google pays for the travel πŸ˜†

I agree Boulder's setup was great. From what Pete was telling us about California, it sounded great, except for the lodging's distance. And to agree with what other folks were saying, the SketchUp team being in their city made them really laid back and very hospitable. Scott ended up hanging out with us user types every chance he could. πŸ‘
But...I thought Pete was arguing for Hawaii πŸ˜„ Just kidding, Boulder was great!

All you guys were great - I was really worried that I would be the guy sitting in the corner, but you guys were really cool about letting me in to your community.

The Un-conference - would be great if there was a formal way to suggest topics ahead of time to have the schedule roughed in (and presenters could prepare), then add a few topics/review in a session the night before - so the Un-Conference day could start with a 90% determined list that people could review while having breakfast...instead of the 15 minute cram and dash that occurred.
(would have been nice to have the 64 bit discussion stay on the board as well πŸ˜’ )

They explained that since they had around 12 un-conference sessions going at once it would have been hard to have them video'd. If you haven't seen the pictures of the groups, some were really small - others might have been large enough to video. Maybe in future Basecamps they can arrange or allow folks to set up cameras and tie into the sound to capture video of all the large sessions and demos in the 3 main meeting rooms.

As for adding a day - even a half day would have allowed the Un-Conference topics to have been spread out time wise and use less space...that way more people could have an opportunity to visit some of the topics that occurred opposite of another topic they were interested in. The SU crew did a pretty good job of spacing topics so the overlap didn't always occur, but I can recall having to decide between 3 of the final sessions to attend. If we would have been able to have 3-4 more hours of sessions, I think that would have been just about right. Then have the vendor/partners close out the conference in the afternoon sessions.

I wasn't sure exactly what the protocol was for the Lab Time with the SU pros. I really needed to speak with someone about network licensing issues and after attending I realized it would be a great opportunity to bring a few models that had glitches to walk through the issues I have had in the past with SU.

Over all, was a great experience! Hope to see you all again in future basecamps.

I think the others are still hanging out, but I had to run and check in...so here is a taste. I'm sure they will be posting in the group picasa album tonight.IMG_0390.JPG

They, of course, went over the new release and its highlights.
We all got a bamboo flash drive with Version 8 Pro included...attempting to install now.

Got to meet Eric...but hopefully will get to meet more folks tonight at the Birds of a Feather dinner.

BTW - I ended up with a Suite if there are some overcrowding issues...not sure how that happened.
