    • RE: [Plugin][EVAL] TIG-CutNfill

      Received and installed. Thanks!

Now on to Question 2 re not getting a solid when I use the Skirt Tool on a mesh created by Add Terrain. I've tried two different sites, and found that if I grab a small section of the site, I get a solid; if I grab the whole site, I don't. Using Solid Inspector2 tells me I have two surface borders that have to be fixed manually. I've looked, and I can't find anything wrong with the borders.

The whole area, of course, wouldn't need cutting and filling, and I read your answer to another post that one should perhaps use CutNfill on just the area that needs cutting and filling. So....

I've attached one of the files that has the whole site, no solid for either the rotated-and-end-point-moved-to-origin Location Terrain or the Location Terrain as created by Add Terrain (although I did move it 2000' from where it originally came in so that I could move the rotated copy to the origin). In another file I grabbed a much, much smaller area, and the Skirt Tool worked perfectly. So is size my problem here?

Thanks ever so much for your assistance. First you do all the work to create these great tools, and then we take up your time pestering you with questions 😄 Sorry!

"am I right is assuming that you got the licensed RBZ ?
      It's called "TIG-CutNfill[LICENSED]_v2.0".

Well, what I did was I paid for it through the extension store and got the attached message saying to check my email. I did so, saw the paypal receipt was there and thought it might just take time for the email from SketchUcation to come. In the meantime, because I was anxious to get started 😄, I installed the [EVAL] plugin, thinking I'd just be able to add the license when I got the email. So far, though, still no email from SketchUcation. If you or the "SCF Shop guys" need my paypal receipt, I can send that by PM.

I also think I know why I wasn't getting a solid when using the Skirt Tool on my Google Location Terrain. When it comes in, it's of course not on SU's default axes, so I need to rotate it and then, if I want accurate shadows, use the Solar North tool. Does that sound right? I'm going to try it after I finish this message.

      Thanks for your assistance.

      Thanks, TIG.

I did manage to make it solid, but only after a bit of work on it. Tomorrow, I'll download some other Google terrains to see the results. I'll attach a file or two if I still have difficulty with them.

Thanks for forwarding my query re the license, as the plugin I downloaded did not download with a license attached.

And thank you, too, for some of your other plugins. I'm amazed at the work you do!

    • RE: [Plugin][EVAL] TIG-CutNfill

Earlier today I purchased CutNfill. 2 questions:

      1. should I have received my license number by now, or does it take a while for the email to be sent? I did get the PayPal receipt.
      2. using the Skirt Tool on my unlocked Location Terrain group, created using Add Location, doesn't make a solid. Is there something I'm missing?

Here's what I thought I'd be able to do: Add Location, unlock Location Terrain, use Skirt Tool, copy Location Terrain (now a solid), rename one of them EXTG, rename other PROPOSED, move PROPOSED over 1000', modify PROPOSED, move it back 1000', which should put it back in exactly the same spot as EXTG. Obviously I can't do this if I can't make Location Terrain a solid, so I think I'm missing something.

I'm going to go back now and experiment with creating a terrain from scratch and then using the SKIRT TOOL, while I wait for an answer here. Maybe I'll figure out the answer to my own question 😄

      Thanks!

    • RE: Push/pull double click wrong direction

If anybody is interested, here's a link to the thread started by my post on this subject on the Sketchup Community forum. While the issue isn't totally "solved," I'm satisfied with the answers I got from the SketchUp team, and particularly some of John's explanations were quite helpful. http://forums.sketchup.com/t/2016-push-pull-double-click-pulls-in-opposite-direction/23140

I, too, am having this issue, and it happens pretty consistently in 2016, doesn't happen at all in 2015. If not everybody is having the problem, could it be a PC vs Mac thing? I'm on a Mac. Are the others of you having this issue all on Macs? I haven't checked this out on Sketchup.com, but that's where I'm going next.

    • RE: Materials After Installing Maintenance Release

Thanks, Dave and John. Your responses will get me to organize my textures differently. Seems to me it might be best to create my own textures in categories similar to the default ones and just never use the default ones at all. Does that make sense? And if there's a follow-up, should I be moving this discussion to a new topic? I'm still not all that sure of forum protocol.

    • Materials After Installing Maintenance Release

After loading the maintenance release, I lost textures I'd added to the default categories. How do I keep that from happening with the next maintenance release?

Thanks, Dave. "Replace All" is also the answer I just received from John, "SketchUp Sage," on sketchup.com.

Thanks for your prompt replies, Rich and Juju. I'm just getting back to this issue. yes, before downloading I did read the info you both refer to, but it doesn't specifically answer my question. I'm going to post my query on sketchup.com. I'll post their reply here once I get it.

      Thanks again.

    • RE: SketchUp 2016 - Maintenance Release 1

When I load the new maintenance release and get the following message

[An item named “SketchUp 2016” already exists in this location. Do you want to replace it with the one you’re moving?

4,049 newer items to be copied (such as “SketchUp 2016”).
Newer “CodeResources” about to be replaced.]

do I choose "Replace All"? I'm concerned I'll have to reconfigure my toolbar and shortcuts, but I don't know whether "Keep Newer" will pick up everything that needs to be replaced. BTW, I'm on a Mac, and I have SU Pro.

      Thanks!

    • RE: Dimensioning issue

      Thank you, Dave.

I did know that you use LayOut for dimensioning but that you just showed it in SU for those who don't have the Pro version. LayOut is the primary reason I bought the Pro version. For practice I'll be using more of the models you've so generously shared. You may make a carpenter out of me yet!

    • RE: Dimensioning issue

      Dave,
Thanks so much for your reply. I still couldn't pick up the right points with zooming, but putting temporary guides in in SU worked like a charm. I'm really getting a lot out of your video, by the way, and I've joined Fine Woodworking as a result, but I'm thinking this Sketchucation forum is the best place for me to post questions to you. Am I right about that?

      Thanks again!

    • Dimensioning issue

Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, but I've looked and can't find anything. I have a SketchUp model of a cabinet (following along with Dave Richards' video), but rather than putting the dimensions in SketchUp as in the video, I am trying to put them in in LayOut. The top and bottom both have bullnose edges, and I'm assuming that's what is causing my problem picking up the correct points for the side elevation. On the front elevation, I'm assuming a depth issue is why I'm having trouble picking up the points for the stile that is set back from and runs between the top and bottom.

Am I making any sense here? And any help here?

FYI, I've been using SU for a couple of years, less so LayOut. I'm not a carpenter, but I'm interested in learning how to at least be a virtual one.

      Thanks!

    • RE: Sketchucation Tools disappeared in 2016

Thanks! Actually, after I sent my post, I rebooted -- again -- and that seemed to take care of the problem. Go figure! But I will also check my preferences to see that other extensions I install will have a better chance of installing properly. Thanks again.

    • Sketchucation Tools disappeared in 2016

Today I downloaded v3 of the Sketchucation Tools in 2016, then installed the bundle from 2015. It seems that all the extensions I had downloaded from the Store did install in 2016 and even updated automatically (hooray!). However, when I closed SketchUp and then reopened it, the Sketchucation Tools extension was no longer there. All the other extensions, by the way, were still there. Reinstalling the rbz file didn't help. The dialog box said it was successfully installed, but it still doesn't show up in the menu. Any idea what happened? BTW, I am on a Mac Pro.
