    • How to model this?

This interesting little structure caught my eye the other day: http://www.contemporist.com/2012/06/25/shelter-bygg-by-gabriela-gomes/us_250612_06/

      http://www.contemporist.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/us_250612_06-940x626.jpg

I know I could probably get away with modelling the the shell in between the ribs, with straight lines, but if I wanted to incorporate a curve, what would be the best way?

      Cheers.

Sorry, I'm useless with anything that's not boxy.

Thanks chaps! I hadn't actually thought that some of our overseas friends may not have understood the word 'flat'! I suppose when you think about it, it makes no real sense. A bit like Mrs Tee.

Looking fabulous. I know absolutely nothing about cars but it looks damn fine to me.

      Cheers chaps.

I must say, when I have had a few 'lemonades' in the pub I have sometimes tried to open the blue door!

    • My Flat

My place is a ground floor and is the red door, you can probably see by the brickwork that originally it wasn't always a flat, but a workshop in a row of Victorian terraced housing. In the 1980's developers built through the workshop - you can still see the archway and dropped kerb that was the access to the premises.

This is a raw Twilight render - no photoshop(yet). Any comments/critique greatly appreciated.

      Ta.

    • RE: Have I dreamt this .... ?

Sorry Rich, it's no big deal really, hence the limited information.

But, the tutorial I was after told you how to take a textured surface which has shadows on it, change the surface to white, export the rendered SU image with the shadows on, bring into photoshop, add grass/surfacing in PP, then import the previoulsy rendered shadow into photoshop and then use a blending option (multiply?) so that an realistic shadow now appears on your photoshopped surfaces.

I may have just answered my own question there! πŸ˜†

    • Have I dreamt this .... ?

      Hi,

Can you tell where I could have seen a little tutorial that showed the user how to reinstate shadows onto photoshopped surfaces, and then bring it into PS for a little bit of jiggery pokery.

Was that on here? Does it even exist?

      Thanks.

Great idea, at the very least it would be good to put faces to names, at best, a super way offer/request help, generate contacts etc.

      @rich o brien said:

      CTRL + Erase to Smooth

But address the back faces in your model first. Right click a white face and choose Orient Faces. If that doesn't work out try it manually by right clicking a Blue faces and choosing Reverse Face.

Activate your eraser. Then hold down 'control' and left click on the lines you want to 'smooth'. You may also want to orient the faces of your model so that all your faces face outwards. πŸ˜„

    • Importing .3ds help

      Evening chaps,

Been playing around with importing models in .3ds from 3darchive. I've not had much experience of importing them and they are all coming into SU with various problems - missing geometry, missing faces etc.

Is there a 'best practice' for importing such models to eliminiate/minimise the issues above?

      Cheers,

      Lee
