I know nothing about VRay, but have you checked to see if you have any reversed faces and if you have a material applied to your front face?

RE: Texture in layout
I'm pretty sure your problem might be related to hardware acceleration. Your nvidia Card is not working with Layout. The one wich is working with layout is the integrated card instead.
To correct this do the following:
1 - On your PC Desktop click in right-mouse button > nvidia control panel
2 - Find "Manage 3D definitions" on left panel
3 - Click on "Application definitions" tab on the right
4 - Find Layout on the list of applications. (you might have to add it to the list by searching for it in Windows > Programs X86)
5 - Associate it with nvidia card instead of integrated card.I hope this images help a bit more though they are in portuguese:

RE: Title Blocks
Or go to window > styles > watermark and place a new image overlayed on the current scene and positioned where you want on screen. Then you can do one of 2 things:
1 - Use a new image for any new title block you want
2 - Use a leader text placed on a blank screen area to make a floating text that populates the title block. -
RE: Sketchup 13 undo bug
Do you have component manager installed? If so update it. If not, look at EDIT Window and see what is in front of undo.

RE: Layers Panel - Kettle Icon Function
Kettle on means that layer will be rendered.
Kettle off means the oposite.
Choose the render engine of your choice (from the available ones) and hit render.
Layers that are off but with kettle on are still rendered, layers that are on but with kettle off will not be rendered.
At least I think so... I use Thea, and it is not supported. I also use KT, but haven't tried yet.
If you want my opinion: It's a hell of a feature!

Looks like you're rendering it in pure Vector mode, to see textures you need to select "Raster" or "Hybrid"
The last image is an Hybrid mode render and seems to be correct. I can't understand if all viewports were taken at the same time, by just changing render modes...

RE: Texture in layout
Richard's right.
This could be caused by a Styles issue. However there are many more possibilities and there's no way to tell without taking a deeper look at the model.

RE: High Poly Flag Stone 3D Hatch
I'm glad you shared it either way! It will be useful indeed!

Excellent idea! Did you came up with that or did you see it somewhere?

RE: Photoshop/Gimp paint plugin
@aerilius said:
So you want to paint on the current view (ie. paint the object as you see it, rather than in unwrapped mode).
Unwrapped meshes have often an unnatural shape, and what looks like a straight line on the model is not always a straight line in the uv map. That makes working with many uv-mapping tools challenging and requires to think in "uv space".Once I felt this would more fit the intuitive "SketchUp way". I have some experiments with how painting directly on the model would work. However it's rather a hackish solution and there are latency/precision problems and limitations of SketchUp's API.
The procedure of editing screenshots of the current view works for faces that are faced to the viewer, but not for orthogonal faces (the texture on them would be stretched and low-resolution). I'm sure your workflow is easier to implement in an semi-automated plugin.

Though I think this was not the process we were discussing it is really cool!!!

RE: Photoshop/Gimp paint plugin
Ah...! Now I understand what you want. It's a bit different than what Sculptris does as that is painting surfaces of individual objects.
What you want seems very interesting though. And I can see it being used very well in many scenarios, though not much in my line of work.
Why don't you use the process you're describing in pojnt "2" but, after the first photomatch, you only edit the material that results from the photomatch?

What if I want to texture uniquely like I did for the treads but they are a component. They will all change.
Ahh.. that's the hard part, you have to make multiple textures of the wood grain. There's no easy workflow for that though, especially if you want to create render ready materials. Better be prepared for some hours of work.

RE: Photoshop/Gimp paint plugin
Aerilius,
Can you elaborate on that a bit? I'm unaware of what Gimp can do with a 3d model...
Masterpaul,
I bet you have tried to make unique texture. If you haven't. make it for a surface and you can then export to gimp/ps and paint it. There is a plugin for making that without texture size limitation (make unique texture++)

RE: [Plugin] Components manager plugin
Inteloide,
There you have the video. If component manager plugin is disabled FredoScale works normally.
It also works as usual on groups and sometimes on components with multiple instances. The object being stretched by FredoScale Box Stretch to Target is a component.
Thanks again for all your effort,
JQL

RE: Dimensioning problem
I'm not sure I understood your problem, but most dimensioning problems in Layout usually go away when you activate a style with Backedges on. Then, of course you'd have to revert the viewport to scene saved in model, or you'd loose sketchup interaction.
For that you'd have to have a Style saved in sketchup with Backedges on and select it in "Sketchup Model" tray > styles or by rightclicking in model viewport and choose styles in the context menu.

RE: Sketchup 2014 - Customized dialogue view position?
Don't you accidentely press the maximize button sometimes Dave? I tried that and then changed to my current layout when I was still in SU 8. You know what happens when one changes window sizes in SU8...
Now the only thing bothering me is that I'm hiding that "hints" line in the bottom left corner sometimes if some windows are opened, as they stretch to the bottom left of the screen. If this layout was with toolbars on the right, those windows would hide the measurement box, wich is worse.

RE: SKETCHUP2013
I believe you can't use it free for commercial purposes though. For that you have to get 2013 Pro or stick with Sketchup 8.
However you should trust only what you read in the licence agreement...

RE: Sketchup 2014 - Customized dialogue view position?
I'm also annoyed by the floating windows and I know you are in 2 monitors, but...

RE: Different UVs in same instances
You cannot have different UV's in a component but you can UV the default material inside a component. This will make you able to paint components with any material and it will be correctly mapped on faces with the default material applied.
There are 2 ways of doing this. First basic one is by changing axis inside component.
Second one, will allow you to map any face:
