    • RE: [Plugin] SectionCutFace

      Hi Tig!

      Hi Everyone.

Would you consider making a pro/paid version of this plugin that would color faces by material or by Layer, as Skalp and Curic does?

I'd love to have your plugin doing that, as that is the only thing missing in it. I've been using the other two plugins for ages, but really miss the simplicity and control of scenes and sections your plugin allows. The others are way more advanced and automatic, making a lot of background actions that ruin the fluid workflow we used to have.

At the same time, having the automatic coloring/texturing of sections, has also become key in our recent workflow.

What do you say? Having a "little" update to this, would certainly make me ditch the other two, and get back to the original.

Thanks in advance and all the best,

      João

It requires more accuracy and some times the edge is hidden. Before I would simply point to a face and when the gizmo was closer to a corner than the others the red and green axis immediately popped up. It was much faster and predictable.

Hi Fredo, I'd like that the axis, that show up when you want to repaint a texture, would appear as they used to be in Thrupaint 1. Many times it's really difficult to paint a face by making the mouse pointer close to the correct edge. It might be hidden or in a position where it's hard to get right and Thrupaint one was perfect in this regard.

Do you think that would be possible to revert? Maybe give us the option again?

Even so, this is also very random. Sometimes I see it, but most of the times I don't. Do you think this might be related to dpi?

      Hi Fredo,

The gizmo works sometimes but not on others. I can't seem to find a pattern.

I also have an issue that I didn't have with the prior version of thrupaint.

When I try to paint a texture continually on surfaces I can't see the red/green axis anymore, as I used to be able with Thrupaint 1.

I notice that things are working, but that visual cue isn't there.

      Thanks,

      João

      Hi Fredo,

I'm having an issue with Thrupaint where I can't use the gizmo to move textures around.

    • RE: Group by Layer

So I made a simple model and tested the snippet without selecting anything. It works flawlessly.

I don't think it iterates inside groups. Only tried on loose geometry, but I'm going to try That.

EDIT: What it does seems to be doing is grouping all groups in the model into a new group called Layer0. It doesn't act inside those groups. This is cool and a way to control the scope.

Geometry to be affected by the snippet should be in root of the model.

EDIT2: Groups that are tagged already, get their objects inside grouped and stripped from tags. This happens even if they have no tags. All other groups are grouped together in a group called Layer0

There is this app for phones, both IOS and Android, which isn't exactly free, but seems to work rather well. Maybe there are alternatives for free?

Too late, I've tried it in the model directly and it's taking a lot of time. I don't know if I should just shut it down, try it in a sample, and then leave it on the whole night. It might finish right now, or it might take a week... who knows?

It must be a group? I will try it then. Just paste this in the console, right?

The description he has in the snippet post is exactly what I need.

      Bummer!

It would be very cool if he would chime in indeed.

    • RE: Group By Layer? Is there a plugin?

I want to do exactly what Tig described in one of my models. (Anytime I import a survey actually)

In Smustard's plugin posted by Gaieus, the description says the following:

      @unknownuser said:

Explodes all groups and components, then regroups all entities by layer

Does Tig's snippet simply run through the selection organizing geometry (edges and faces) by group by layer as described?

Or does it explode whatever it finds first? Because in my model I have some components that I want to keep.

    • RE: Group by Layer

I think the objective of that one is to have edges and faces sent to layer0. That is aimed at fixing most errors caused by having raw geometry in that layer.

In my case I really don't want to loose the layer of raw geometry unless it becomes grouped by layer first and the group is given that same layer.

So, what I want to do is exactly what you showed on your image: go through each layer, select objects and group them; if possible change the group from Layer0 into the selected layer; and then I can send all raw geometry into Layer0 as it has already been grouped and the group is in the correct layer.

I'm going to read better what each of those Layer plugins does.

@Box, just replace each of the "layer" above by "tag" and you get the point.

@Rich, I was replying to your previous post. I will see what you posted now.

    • RE: Creativity is teachable.

I was envolved with a group that tried using art, creativity and psychology to enhance people lives inside companies. The aim was to trigger their potential as workers by becoming more human first.

It was too interesting and too much fun, so it failed because it became more of a philosophical and artistic movement. Helped me become more creative and connected to myself. I think maybe it didn't fail after all...

Your thing is way more interesting and useful though. I'd like to know more.

That's pretty cool, I was using selection toys.

However, too many right-clicks, I think I would rather keep things unorganized.

a bit too much right clicks, I can handle as it is.gif
