It's ok - found the solution - hold control and measure/resize works ok.

Resize model.
I often import a graphic of a floorplan from a client or forum member. I find a long measurement and measure it using the measure tool - I then type the actual measurement into the lower right input window and it asks me if I'd like to resize the model, I say yes and it resizes the graphic so all measurements are to that new scale.
It now creates a guideline along the axis of the measurement.
Why has this feature disappeared in version 2017, it's a very important feature I use regularly.

RE: Exporting 2D graphic in dwg > doesn't create the file
works for me in windows version

RE: Wish list for Sketchup 2018
Yes Dave - but you have to open separate sketchup programs - you can't just be on the one open sketchup and load another and have them both in the one open version and switch between the two.

RE: Wish list for Sketchup 2018
I would like the Windows version to have 2 or more files open at once - I gather the Mac version already has this feature.

I just wanna say
I've been using 2017 (Windows) for a few days now and I love it. They've fixed the export dwg problem I had with 2016 which meant using Version 8 for that process which I've now uninstalled.
My simple extensions loaded perfectly as I'd kept the .rbz files and just selected them. I've got my sections hide/show tab back as it had disappeared in 2016 - I loaded my shortcuts from 2016 and it purrs along nicely - all my tabs sit nicely and consistently ( I have them on my laptop screen (Toshiba Satellite P70) and work on my large screen.)In my humble opinion this is the best Version of Sketchup so far and I've come from Version 4.
thank you Trimble
Cheers

RE: Extensions missing from Preferences in SU Pro 2017
I'm on Windows and Extension Manager is in the Windows drop down.

RE: I think I've finally had it with upgrades!
I've finally solved the problem with the kind help of Sketchup support.
It was hardware acceleration that was causing the problem that disappeared when I disabled hardware acceleration.Thank you Ty.

RE: I think I've finally had it with upgrades!
Thank you phacot - i don't have that option in windows - either 2d graphic or section cut. These are 2D graphics.

RE: I think I've finally had it with upgrades!
I might add - someone has changed the drop down menus and stuck them into one folder. I use two screens and have the program in one screen and the drop down menus on the other screen all open and lined up.
It appears I can't do that anymore!

Here's the version 8 export.

I think I've finally had it with upgrades!
I reluctantly paid for and upgraded to 2016 - I wonder why I bother!
I started using sketchup professionally at version 4 and have paid for upgrades as they come along.
When Google took over the program they had to fiddle with it didn't they to make it more suitable for the application they wanted, modelling buildings for Google Earth. The mouse got dumber and dumber as they played with the program. I handled that.
Then Google devised a new 3D program that converts a variety of sources and created the new supercool 3D Google earth program where who cities are now generated in 3D so they no longer needed sketchup which the sold (?) to Trimble.
Trimble of course had to fiddle with the program, as you do even if it's just to change the logos and justify you paying more for the upgrade.
By 2013 a major fault occurred in the export to .dwg, a function I use daily as I create all my 2D plans in another program, an AutoCad clone. (I've never got into layout)
I pointed out the fault on this forum but got no feedback.
The fault continued in 2015 and it's now continued in 2016. I have to use the latest version because my clients have always downloaded the latest version so for me to view their mods etc I need it to read their file.
Here's the fault demonstrated YET AGAIN.
I have to use my version 8 to export to .dwg because all later versions have the fault!
Here's an export of one of my designs in 2008
Here's the same file exported in 2016
As you can see they are entirely different because 2016 shows all lines within each component whereas Version 8 shows only the outline.
Could someone at Trimble PLEASE look into this as it means I will have to continue to export a version 8 file file everytime I need to create .dwg files from my projects.
I sometime wonder whether the people working on the program ever actually use the program in a professional manner.

RE: Constant crashing when updating scenes!!
Thanks for that - turning off HWA solved my exporting .dwg problem.
-
RE: SU Pro 2015 dwg export.
Ok - I've found the problem - following a suggestion in another thread about crashes I turned off hardware acceleration and the problem was fixed!!
Could you please pass it on to Trimble. -
RE: SU Pro 2015 dwg export.
yes - vertical view, parallel projection. Export/ 2D Graphic/.dwg
-
RE: SU Pro 2015 dwg export.
OK - so no replies. Perhaps I haven't explained myself.
Here are two .dwg 2D Graphic exports of an identical file. Both used the default settings.
Here is the export using SketchupPro Version 8
Here is the same export using SketchupPro 2015
As you can see the 2015 shows all the geometry.
I use this export daily and unless someone has a solution it will force me to return to Pro 2008 version and I won't bother updating t any further versions of this program.

SU Pro 2015 dwg export.
In 2015 when you export a dwg of a plan as a dwg (not a section slice) it exports all the geometry, not the view you have. If you have people it doesn't just give their outline, it gives all the geometry within the model.
Has anyone else experienced this? is it an option I'm missing?

RE: Any info about new version?
I've updated to the latest update and I now have a new problem.
I work on a top model Toshiba laptop (as I travel a lot) and at home I have a large screen second monitor for daily work. I run the program on the second monitor and the dropdown menus on the laptop screen - works well.
I've just traveled again and am on my laptop but when I open sketchup I only get the dropdowns on the laptop screen and the main screen is somewhere in the ether and I can't access it.
This doesn't happen with any other program and didn't happen with sketchup before - does anyone know how I can retrieve the main screen?
