    • The only draw back to sketchup

My only wish for sketch-up is to be able to do animations with it easier like this one.Mainly what I'm talking about is at 1:27 and on in the video. I'm guessing this one was done in Solidworks but not sure.

OK. You don't need a plugin for that. Make copies of the components/groups placed throughout the model as needed. Create layers that can be associated with the scenes. Then assign the layers to the components/groups that you want to show in each scene.

So you might have a component in Position 1 in Scene 1 and that component is associated with Layer 1. All other layers are turned off for Scene 1. Then in Scene 2, the component in Position 2 is on Layer 2 and all other layers are turned off.

That's how I made this animation.

All this was done with just different scenes and layers? If so amazing job and I bet very time consuming!

I like Camtasia studio but you still have to edit the zoom feature when you edit the video.

Thank you very much for your explanation
If this is how I work with the layer and components or groups. But it is more simple, just move objects and save your position in each scene.
Keyframeanimator is a good plugin, but payment and more complex.
I just want a simple tool that allows to keep the same object is different positions, different scenes

You might could try proper animation? http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?t=10946

n my instructions for assembly to customers I note this to insure proper placement.

You offer this as a kit? Cool. In terms of instruction what I usually have problems is not where and when to put in screws. How the heck do you hold things in place--like the lid--while you screw them? (occasional garage "woodworker")

      Good work on the video.

Thanks,Yes I offer it as kit.Easier to ship and I leave it up the the customer to figure out how to hold things in place but my instructions do offer clues. The lid is the most tricky but I haven't had any complaints as of yet. 😍

      Great presentation !
Won't the screws from the pieces you put in the center hit each other ? Perhaps in reality you won't drill the holes exactly centered ,since they won't be seen .Just wondering !

Btw , you used Proper animation plugin, right ?

Thanks, no to the proper animation plugin, I used deep exploration for the animation this time. Far as the screws hitting, on the bottom cleats I offset the pocket holes a 1/4" but did not show it in the 3D drawing or animation. Luckily I also notice this early on and the offset worked just fine. In my instructions for assembly to customers I note this to insure proper placement.

Thanks Dave and yes all the faces are turned right. They didn't look right being white in the video. No I haven't used the torsion hinge on anything but the toy boxes so far but I like them a lot! This is just one of those easy to build Lowes projects that I drew 3D. I have gotten 3 request for one so far. I'll look on my other computer for a finished photo of the one I built for my nephew.
