Actualy, the problem is not vray. The vrmesh works like a charm;)The hiccup about the whole thing is when you have found that big beautiful 1.000.000.000 polygon oak tree, car etc. and you canΒ΄t even import it into sketchup and make it a proxy because of sketchups 32bit limit. That's how I understand it anyway;)

Well explained. Ok thats what I was trying to say.

      Hi

With proxies now a reality within sketchup I was all psyched up about the endless posibilities regarding "decent" 3D trees and cars in my vray renders (because let's face it, 98% of the rubbish you find in google warehouse is... well rubbish;) So with great expectation I got hold of the simlab fbx importer, got some 3D trees in fbx format with textures and all and started to import away... until I hit the sketchup 32 bit wall (so I was told)
The importer suddenly just stopped when I was trying to import files over 100mb. Everything under worked just fine, but when the majority of the files were well over 200mb I started to get a little disapointed. Can this really be true or am I missing something?

Anyway, if this is the case, then I can't wait for a sketchup2013 64 bit (if we are to believe what they said at the sketchup basecamp;)

Better sooner than later thank you:)

This as I see was always going to be the problem. If we have to set up proxies in SU then we are handicapped by SU's limitations. This is where Thea Render is so good. Using the studio to handle large poly models, make them into a proxies to be used in Thea4SU. I have only had 1 hour play around with vary 1.6 so I may be missing something. But I had really hoped to buy evermotion vegetation and use as a proxie inside SU. So far Im struggling to import such large models.

Am I the only person having trouble accessing the beta testing thread at the chaos group forums?

I am a registered vray user, yet since the beginning (a few years ago) I've had so many issues with registering and accessing their forums. It is true chaos, as their name suggests. 😑

I had to register once just to download vray, and had to register a second time with a different name to be able to access the forums - because they needed a username that is linked somehow to the email I bought the software with, or so I thought... but that didn't work either... after emailing them for weeks I finally got access to the forums which were almost empty since they did the union with which ever other company they were before... and now I am blocked from the beta testing threads... great! I could download the beta, but not report about it...
What is with these guys?? This is truly ridiculous !!! of course I sent them a support request ticket and waiting for an answer now...

Why not just open up the forums to the wide public like sketchucation is without all these ridiculous restrictions.

Anyway - I have a list of so many bugs to report about this beta release, and I have nowhere to write them... other than here maybe.

Yes, they have an email to report bugs, but in my opinion that is not the way to do beta testing... I don't want to report something twice + there is the pressure effect when the bugs are out in the open. So... should I open a new thread here in sketchucation? or dump my list into this thread?

      Happy betaing everyone!

      Hi

Im the same as you, I cant see the beta forums. But have just sent an email to support and hope to hear back from them soon.

Vray Beta is warning me when I open another instance of SketchUp that the program did not close properly and asks me to send a report. I believe this is happening because the other instance has not shut down.

You sould pay more attention for image composition. This is the only one thing at this level which makes your renders weak.
First image, too much of vegetation on the right side.
Second image. I could not understand what are you trying to show. The house or chrome ball? If house, pay more attention for the facade. More over, corner of the roof is gone which makes house not so important in this image πŸ˜„
Good luck in next renders, and remember that compositon is extremaly important πŸ˜‰

Although i agree, the first image is unbalanced with lots of focus of the tree to the right side, unfortunately there are other factors to consider with a paid job. Firstly clients brief "Render to show house with living court surrounding gardens and tree on boundary in a sunny environment". In my experience with Real Estate images you have to be very accurate, they are less interested in a piece of art work than showing what is exactly there 😞 . I would have like to pulled the camera angle back further but in reality there is a tall concrete wall there which would block the view to the living court.

In the second image, as I said in the description is a test with instancing the grass. I should have stated its a WIP. The chrome ball was to see the position of the HDRI background. But I would like to play around with that image in the future. So I will make the focus of the image the house and not the grass field.
Cheers so much for your crits.

Im loving the Thea 4 Su pluggin. The workflow is so fast. Still having problems with noise but am still new to it. I hope to learn how to better avoid noise. Below is a housing development. For the budget/time Im pretty happy with the rendered outcome. Turn around 4 hours (Not including render time)

Testing to see how far I could push the pluggin using proxies. Below is a farm house designed for a friend.

      Hi
When I was first learning Vray, I would download materials and study how they were made up. There are loads of materials here http://www.chaosgroup.com/en/2/index.html You being a paid customer have access to loads of free materials. Use them.

This stuff is difficult to understand. I don't think we're beating a dead horse if there are still misconceptions floating around the community about the real benefits of 64bit computing.

The 64bit version is crucial for all rendering engines that are truly integrated DLLs into SketchUp and talk with it through SketchUp C++ SDK.

We would love to see extremely complex models rendered directly Inside SketchUp, but there is a limit how much one can fit into 32bit memory range, regardless how efficient instancing or other memory optimizations related to displacement, relight, repaint, etc. are in a rendering engine.

SketchUp wouldn't necessarily have to display such a complex content. This is being addressed by proxy systems already present in several rendering applications. Unfortunately those really integrated are choking at some point.

The 64 bit solution would also require a "real" SketchUp SDK, not only a way to export or read SKP files. This is very unfortunate that we developers have to "break" into SketchUp through a use of undocumented Ruby methods and a creation of Ruby extensions.

Would love to get a reaction to this from jbacus or another Sketchup developer
