    • RE: Displaying images at 3D Warehouse

I've had the same problem since installing IE9 (although there isn't a problem when accessing the warehouse via Sketchup).

Having resolved similar problems with other sites, I thought I'd try the same technique with the 3Dwarehouse - and it works.

Basically it appears to a be an issue with cookies. If you visit the 3Dwarehouse and temporarily set your browser to accept all cookies, you should find that you can view the model images and 3D views.

Obviously once the site is working you can revert back to your previous security settings.

      Really informative thread!

I've got a quick question. Does all of the output feature the heavy bloom effect, or is it something you can control or even turn off?

I've experienced the same thing, but thought it was because I'm using the trial version - I assumed it would stop when I purchase a license.

    • Venjakob Table

I saw this Venjakob table last week and couldn't resist modelling and rendering it. I also thought I would share it with the SU community - I hope it comes in handy.

    • RE: Fill Volume With Components?

      Thanks for the advice Pilou.

To be honest I'm a bit intimidated by Sketchyphysics, so I'll try and figure something out with CompoSpray.

Would I be right in thinking that CompoSpray doesn't work within a volume, but I could achieve what I want by stacking planes with components sprayed onto them (deleting the planes afterwards)?

Or did you have some other technique in mind?

    • Fill Volume With Components?

Is there a plugin that would automate the process of filling a volume with components?

I'm thinking of a scenario such as a model of a jar filled with marbles. It would be pretty laborious to place each individual marble, ensuring that they don't intersect with one another or the sides of the jar, and wondered if there was a plugin or technique that might help in this kind of situation?

Thanks for taking the time to put together a really informative tutorial - it really helped me to better understand proxy modelling. Cheers πŸ‘

Would you mind sharing your technique for modelled the piping on the chair?

Maybe you could apply the Randomize Sanbox Tin plugin for a rougher texture?

    • RE: 130 Free xFrog Plants! (no piracy)

If you were going to use them in SU, I suppose that the 3ds option might be best. On the few occasions I've used 3ds Xfrog models on SU, I haven't encountered any major problems (except the obvious slowdown).

    • RE: Thought I'd seen this one on the warehouse...

Thanks for the link; it will come in handy.

I can definitely understand your point about furniture needing to be "specifiable". I'm relatively new to 3D modelling and rendering - only really doing work for friends and relatives at the moment - but I'm already finding that people prefer to see actual furniture designs rather than approximations. I've even run into problems where I have used an unknown 3D furniture model and found that the 'client' wants to know where they can buy it (see viewtopic.php?f=179&t=32811).

Really nice work πŸ‘ . The modelling, design and animation are all really impressive.

What software did you use for the walk-through animation?

    • RE: Seamless texture techniques

Some really great advice and application references on this thread πŸ‘

The tutorial on brightness level correction was particularly helpful. Does anyone know of a similar method for levelling out the colour in a texture?

I'm trying to create some carpet textures but I keep getting colour banding resulting from uneven colouring in the image I'm tiling.

    • RE: Mystery Chair [ID Found!]

I think that I might be onto something.

I have a suspicion that it's a re-imagining of the Ari chair by Arne Norell:

It has the same distinctive undulating seat shape.

      More examples.

    • RE: Mystery Chair [ID Found!]

To be honest I think it looks more like a cross between the Olivier chair and the Eames Lobby chair.

Thanks for the suggestion though πŸ‘

    • Mystery Chair [ID Found!]

I've been using a chair in a few of my models/renders (see attachment) and I would really like to know if the design is based on a real-world product.

I've looked at the big-name manufacturers and my web searchers have all drawn a blank.

Does anyone recognise this mystery chair?

    • RE: High Poly Trees that won't slow your system

It's a spherical image (IBL) used in Thea Render with a shadow catcher material applied to a ground plane (see Solo's tutorial). The sky, tree line and grass are all part of the background image.

Using this method you can zoom out as much as you want - although you can run into scale issues.

As long as you frame the scene properly (a bank of disappearing trees might look a bit odd) or remove the animation between scenes πŸ˜‰
