... or was I just hallucinating? Any ideas/links if it's somewhere out there as a model for free?
    It's the James Wingback Chair.
    Thanks, Anastassis

PS I'm totally against encroaching on people to model things for my sake, so this is not an implicit request for a freebie. Just the info will be greatly appreciated.

This won't be your first option but if you can't find it on the warehouse (I didn't). You can buy this one, which looks quite nice. http://www.designconnected.com/catalog/product/James-Design-UK-Great-Britain-UK_m603/Wingback_p3344

they even have it in sketchup format.

Thanks Brodie, I already had that in mind...
I'd be interested to hear what people on the forum who make 3d models for a living think of its price...

Price wise I guess it's fine, if it's that specific chair you need then it's an awesome price.
The question is how many of those have been sold, what percentage does the artist get and how much work went into it, my bet is he has not broken even yet based on time spent and money recieved.

I've been able to get by so far without having to buy individual models (I've gotten some packages of cars and people from Dosch but that's pretty much it). That said, the quality looks quite good, it's in SU format which should alleviate some conversion issues, and the price seems to be in line with other things I've seen of that nature. So I'd say, if you have to have that particular chair, you're better off spending the $25 bucks on it rather than trying to model it yourself (that's really what the issue comes down to is how valuable your time is to achieve a similar result). But if you don't need that particular chair, I personally, would find something free...

2 websites with LOTS of free models of very good quality - the first link I just found the other day and it looks really promising from the few models I've downloaded so far.

Also, there are a number of manufacturers providing their own 3d models through their websites. I tend to stay away from the warehouse when looking for quality stuff, particularly furniture.

Thanks everybody. It's very interesting to hear what people who actually do 3d modelling think. That said, I tend to think the sprecific chair is a bit overpriced, but then I assume, as Pete said, that there is a top-up on the designer's fee for profit.
Both sites are great Brodie, I've used stuff from there in the past. One thing about my work as an interior designer is that everything (well at least the furniture) in my renderings need to be "specifiable". I need to know what the sofa is, where to buy it from and so on. A good resource from Design Connected I came across the other day is a nice list of manufacturers offering free 3d models of their products. It may come in handy for people:

Thanks for the link; it will come in handy.

I can definitely understand your point about furniture needing to be "specifiable". I'm relatively new to 3D modelling and rendering - only really doing work for friends and relatives at the moment - but I'm already finding that people prefer to see actual furniture designs rather than approximations. I've even run into problems where I have used an unknown 3D furniture model and found that the 'client' wants to know where they can buy it (see viewtopic.php?f=179&t=32811 ).

I work in healthcare renderings and have only done a select few interiors, but this website has come in handy when needing specifiable furniture in that case. Depending on what sort of spaces you're designing your need for this sort of furniture may be limited but they have models for all their furniture and the models are pretty good quality.
