Hello,
I am having periodic issues with pro 14.1.1282, happens when I open a file, and close.
I get "Sketchup not responding" and a black line then black bar across the bottom of my screen. The line is thin, and the bar is about 1/2" or 1". SU hangs for several seconds, then goes on its merry way and completes the task.
It's not all the time. completely random.
The files are 3mb to 10mb.
windows 8.1.update 1 (whatever the most current version is with all patch Tuesdays installed).
16GB ram
i7 3770
Samsung ssd 850pro 256gb (maximized for performance)
e: Toshiba 1t
NVidia gt630 current drive 340.52
I tried sketchup pro 13.0.4812 no black lines, it worked fine.
Any thoughts, or any one else have this problem?
Thanks,
Glenn

V2014 strange situation
Hello,
Hopefully this will make (some) sense. I'm using Layout 2014, and earlier today opened a file from layout 8 or possibly 2013. Then saved as (new file name) at 8:30am.
I worked on the file & saved throughout the day, most recently at 4:30pm.
I noticed in the folder on my e drive (where the layout file is saved), that the time shown in the date column of file explorer is the original 8:30am.
However, when I open that file, it has all the updates I made during the day.
I turned off auto backup.
Is layout keeping a copy somewhere else (c drive where sketchup 2014 is installed)?
Or referencing a copy?
etc?
Confused,
Glenn

RE: SketchUp 2014
I just got the "newer version" notice when I fired up SU.
Is this a free upgrade with current AUC?

Interesting article, I wonder if Sketchup was/is involved & how Trimble is reacting?

Hi Fredo6,
Just wanted to pass long a quick thanks for all your plugins.
I switched from sketchup v7pro to 2013pro this weekend, and manually installed your plugins (windows all work great. Had to change permissions on the plugins folder.

RE: One or two hard drives?
Thanks for the reply, I was in a bind yesterday and couldn't go with an ssd at this time. I will use my old drive for data until that time.

One or two hard drives?
Hello,
Moving to a new computer, trying to figure out how to use new & old hard drives for best performance. Main use is Sketchup then into photoshop.
New drive is 1T sata3 6gb drive and old (2 year old sata2 3gb)
Iām thinking about 1T will have windows 8 & all program files.
d: will be the old sata2 for data files?
Will it be faster to have that set up?
Or my other idea is to put everything on the new 1T drive since it is sata3. Reformat the old sata2 drive, and use it for daily backups (along with external usb just in case)?
Any thoughts, comments or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Glenn
p.s. in case this has any bearing: new system is i7 3.4 3770, 16gb ram, windows 8 -

RE: Animation suggestions
thanks for the idea, not sure if it will work for what I need..(from http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?p=97179
".....This plugin allows you to smooth out the jerky scene transitions in a SketchUp scene-tab animation. It is not intended for object animation, only native SkechUp scene animation..."

RE: Animation suggestions
Thanks for all the replies, ended up doing it the manual way.

RE: Animation suggestions
Hello Gaieus,
Thanks for the reply, looks like keyframe or mover should do the trick.
Glenn
Correction, spoke too soon. Only keyframe will export, Proper animation & mover are internal only.
Looks like it will be the manual method.

Animation suggestions
Hello,
Iām trying to make an animation for a client and have hit a wall.
Basically, I want to stand at a couple points around an object, then open and close a flap (actually starts closed, opens, then closes. Then move to the next position & repeat).
Currently, I have one scene tab with the flap closed, one tab flap Ā½ open, 1 tab fully opened.
The animation āsnapsā the flap to each position (not a smooth/slow open).
However, my client wants a smooth transition for the opening & closing (the object is stationary, only the flap moves).
The only way I can figure out how to do that is to make many copies of the flap in various positions between open/close, using scene tabs, layers, etc.
Is there some setting I havenāt thought about?
I successfully made a walk around of the object using scene transitions of 7.5 and scene delay 0, (which gave the appearance of the object in a slow rotation).
Any ideas will be appreciated.
Thank you,
Glenn

Any AMD fx4100 users?
Hello,
I finally have a (very) small budget for a computer upgrade. Current is Pentium D920 2.8ghz (dual core). Evaluating systems with AMD fx4100 3.6ghz or Intel I3 3.3ghz.
My typical work flow is SU > Photoshop elements. Mostly renderings/illustrations, sometimes animations. Typical (rendering) SU files: small 5mg, most around 10mg, infrequent around 30mg. Photoshop files 10mg to 50mg, with the occasional 200mg
How does SU 7 perform with fx4100 or i3?
I know it currently only uses one core.
Iām a little confused about running SU with W7 64, which version is necessary: (home premium, pro, ultimate)?
Thank you for your comments,

RE: Ever Turn down a job?
Yes, I too turn down work. The headaches during the project or risk of not getting paid are not worth it.
I try to live by Warren Buffett's comment that the secret to his success is his ability to say no (and pass on what someone is trying to sell as the investment opportunity of a lifetime).

RE: Formfonts help
Alan & Boofredlay,
Thanks for the replies,
hmmmā¦perhaps I was wrongā¦.. maybe thatās why I canāt find it????
Boofredlay, the kite link you posted is similar, I thought there was one with open cells/chambers (more of an acrobatic chute)?
perhaps I have went over to the 3d warehouse & put the two together in my mindā¦no offense intended Alan.
On another note, those xxxxxx tufted sofas come in very handy for interior renderings, keep āem coming!!!!!
Thanks again,
Glenn
