      Gaieus,
Thanks for the tip. I'm sure your method takes half the time as compaed to manually cutting in photoshop.
It would be nice if LO could automatically create pages for each scene tab in SU (or perhaps the user could select scene tabs).
      hmm....ruby in layout? šŸ˜†

      Gaieus,
I agree the export from layout is fast.
However, setting up the layout file for 42 scene tabs from SU is going to take a little time.... I"m not sure which will be longer....setting up layout for 42 pages or manually cutting in photoshop? Actually, I did a quick test on PS, takes me about 10 seconds per file.
It should only have to be done once (getting the background transparent), my client is using the images in flash.

    • RE: Transparent background

      Thanks for the link.
The background can be any color needed for an easy selection.
At this point, I'm leaning toward layout, since I have 40 scenes in SU to export. There may be changes (so I don't want to do that many in PS more than once).

    • Transparent background

      Hello,
Is it possible to export a 2d image from SU7.1 with a transparent background (other than going through layout)?
      I have about 40 scenes.
      Thank you,

      Thank you,
That did the trick…..hadn’t even crossed my mind.
I figured it was something painfully obvious that I was missing.

      Hello Thomas,
      Thanks for the quick reply,
Attached is from the plugins folder. I’m not sure which file(s) I’m missing?
Is there one main ruby that calls the rest?

    • Missing ruby in su7

      Hello,
I finally made the move to SU7, and noticed a ruby missing, Bezier spline curves.
I thought I copied all the files & directories from SU6 to SU7.
      Perhaps I missed something?
      Any suggestions?
      Thanks and Happy New Year,
      Glenn

    • Is there a time limit to upgrade?

      Hello,
I’m currently running SU pro 6.4 and am evaluating SU pro 7.1. Is there a time limit, or version limit to be able to upgrade for $95?
      Thanks,
      Glenn

    • RE: 7.1 pro component question

Thanks for the responses, I played around last night and found copying to the 7.1 folder works.
HD space isn’t a concern, my laziness is….I would like to put components in one spot and not have to move them for every update. šŸ’š

I still don’t understand why I canā€˜t create a folder in another location that will be a common location for all versions of SU?
      Thanks again,

    • 7.1 pro component question

I’m evaluating upgrading from 6.4pro to 7.1pro. I did the speed test and was amazed.
But I ā€˜m a little concerned or confused about components. The libraries have been moved to the 3d warehouse?
Can I simply move or copy my component files from 6 to 7.1?
I tried making a components directory in c:\program files\google\su components
I thought it would be a good idea to have my components in one spot, then when su8+ comes out, all I have to do is change the file location in windows>preferences>components to the above location.
Except this doesn’t work in 7.1 (I made the change in preferences, saved the default template, closed su7.1, restarted. No luck, SU still looks to C:\Program Files\Google\Google SketchUp 7\Components.
      What am I missing here?
I want to do the same with materials since the material library that comes with v7.1 is rather thin.
And also with all the great rubies I’ve collected from the generous authors.
I did this method with another cad package, made yearly upgrades really simple.
      Thanks Glenn

      Interesting test results:
      XP sp3, duo 2.8, 4gb ram, 8500gt 512mb

Ran it with SU7.1, then saved it as SU6 and ran it with v6.4

The price is pretty similar at this point, since the card is so old.

    • 512mb vs. 1gb video card

      Hello,
I’m about to upgrade my video card (to the trailing edge of leading technology) by getting an NVIDIA 8500gt. Current card is 6200se 256mb.
This way, I can use my current power supply, and pick up a new card on eBay for around $35us.
So, what I’m wondering is 1gb better than 512mb?
I’ve read a few article that say no and some that say yes.
I’m using SU6 (will upgrade to 8 with all the money I save on the cheap video card upgrade), & photoshop.
There is 2gb of system ram, I’m thinking about going to 4gb, and using xp sp3.
Thanks in advance for any & all comments, suggestions.

    • RE: How do you word your invoices?

I agree it’s a great idea to set payment terms up front. My proposal includes: my name, clients name, description of the work, when & what will be delivered and payment terms (when due, how to pay). Before I start, I require the client to sign and send it back to me.
I do the same with changes along the way.
