well, where's the render?!

RE: [Plugin] Import OBJ with Materials v2.1 20131118
TIG, thanks for sharing this great plugin!

RE: An Office
yes, agree with Pete, clients don't actually want photorealistic, they want photoartistic.
I have shown a client a super-photorealistic image, and they hated it. I turned it into a pretty digi-water color and they loved it.
I had one prefer the sketchup over photorealistic. While others, love the photo-artistic where it may make it prettier than it actually would be, but they don't want 'real'... that's pretty certain.

RE: HOME 3
thanks for sharing...
I assume you are posting because you want suggestions for future improvement?
If so... did you notice that your lights shine up on themselves in the entry rendering? -
RE: What is it?
the materials and lighting are everything now, as you have a good model (I believe)
I don't think the materials have a realistic look to them at all currently.
perhaps if you were to find a trusted 'buddy' over at the KT forum to help work out the mats, you could have a killer render.
definitely look at the aged metal library they have for download.

RE: Sketchyphysics + twilightrender / jeep wrangler
Fantastic work, Shareck!
You could put your scratching as a background for your vid.

RE: Dutch bungalow (kerkythea update)
the center of the axis for the 3D hi-poly tree is not guaranteed to match the center axis for the component instance.
You may have to adjust the position of the tree in this case. Also the scale may vary from model to model. -
RE: Purpose for each renderer?
Stinkie, I was under the impression Modo has a great render engine built-in... what is your response/experience with it? Since I see you saying Thea would be a must-have for you as a modo user.

RE: FacetedGlass: rendered variations
Simon.

your glass is 4m tall!?!this will NOT render correctly.
scale must be accurate for accurate renders! -

i don't like the design of two buildings i've made, can you tell me your opinion...?
unfortunately I completely agree with you... keep sketching! the second design looks better... slightly.

RE: More Concept Art....
2hrs?! whoa! impressive!

I like the sketchy lines shot too! -

...to turn that out so quickly... did they search him for matches ???

(sorry to go off topic momentarily...) Thanks for the bit of history TIG!
I love this stuff. No, I'm actually positive there were several plans already laid for London before the burning. Most large cities have master plans, even at that time, city planning was a big deal. But that his was chosen over others, there's something to ponder... doubtless much politics involved... same deal now... just look at politics around 1 World Trade today

RE: Revit Architecture 2010
just don't bother trying if you have any curved surface at all.
(there's no smoothing that I've ever found.)More than one person in our office spent more than 6hrs at a time trying to make simple flatscreen TVs, or Windows that would flex parametrically... could have been done in 5 mins in SU.

I'm impressed, Scott,
as after 6+ hrs trying to get a simple sink to import/render in Revit, I gave up every trying to import and render anything from SU inside of Revit ever again!

RE: What is it?
quite the little project you've chosen for yourself here, Roger.

as for bump... it maps automatically with the image... so make sure that they are both exactly the same pixel size, and you're all good.

RE: Castle Howard
hmm... too bad about the component leveraging... as it also makes for much faster model processing and rendering and better RAM usage... maybe keep it in mind for your next monster project.

well, it's a pain, I'm sure, but you can export different sectors of the model, north wing, south wing, etc, then merge them all together in one big model in KT... but it should (KT) handle the polys just fine.
People do this all the time, usually its a matter of separating furniture from architecture... but in your case could be castle "wings".
