Another view I am looking at. DOF with F-number 4... may be too subtle.
This is not an exercise for ultimate realism, but more for play. And it is to prove that this model could be handled in SU and Twilight Render with only 3Gb of RAM.
I do realize this building exists, and as it is an extraordinary building, it is quite well-known... so if you've been inside the real space, you are blessed, but any rendering of the space could not really do it justice without a lot more modeling and texture work.

Thanks Alex.
I've updated the post above with a higher resolution image, hopefullythat helps a little.
Perhaps bones are too dark colored, but this is what color dinosaur bones are, somewhat reddish-brown to very dark reddish-brown, almost black.
More lights are perhaps needed.
I will post more images soon.
The original scene is well known to many in the CG community for a "lighting challenge". It was created and shared by Alvaro Luna Bautista and Joel Anderson. The conversion took - a lot of work.
Please feel free to follow the progress of the scene and learn more details here.
As far as I'm aware, we are the only ones to have successfully converted this file into SketchUp and rendered it natively from within SketchUp using a completely integrated render engine like Twilight Render.

Thanks a lot TIG.
I was in a (rather) large file, and perhaps it was just a glitch happening with the machine/RAM/etc.
Everything seems fine today (with or without toolbar showing)... I do appreciate the info, however, as there are times I wish I could modify these things in some rubies.
Hi TIG,
Thank you for sharing all of your wonderful talents. This + the imagetrimmer.rb
are very nice.
I haven't had time to read this whole thread, so sorry if this issue has been mentioned before:
On my machine, when I have the toolbar for Mirror open, and I double-click a component or group to edit - it can take about 4-5 seconds to actually open the group or component. This was killing me until I tried just closing the mirror36.rb toolbar button. I downloaded the .rb file from this thread just tonight. I thought to close the toolbar and the problem went away. I would have no idea why. I have a shortcut assigned and don't need the toolbar anyway.
Ben, look at my example of roof tile above very closely - you will see that you should use a TINY .bmp... I mean TINY.
Then scale the mesh that is generated UP in SketchUp, then PROJECT your texture DOWN onto the face. Be sure the texture position is set to PROJECTED.
Remember that BLACK is the lowest point, and WHITE is the HIGHEST point on the final mesh... so make sure to create your displacement map appropriately... a sketch like that is not likely to give you the exact results you want... depending on what you want I guess.
Thom Thom, I used your plugin to helpme create this image... thanks again!
It is KEY to use a very good displacement map and very small resolution.

bonjour, Fabrice, j'en suis sur qu'il s'intéresse toujours. Je peut lui contacter.
stp, envoie moi un émail avec ton adresse pour en discuter.
I've had best luck with Jim Folz's "obj importer"
TIG's is ok too, but I had trouble with it.

Hi Gaieus.
Excuse my english so bad.
Thank's a lotFor an article of course, with pleasure.
I could explain my method and what I want to do; but in English, it will be impossible for me. If you know someone who could translate ? And after you could use that to write an article, with some pictures of course.
I invite you to send me a private post.
Fabrice
@Fabrice and G, I can translate for you if you like.
I really like the feeling in that last image.
But there is something odd about the window reflections, and the lack of any blue in the sky makes it go from cheerful to a littlebit drab.
I presume and hope that anythingthe govn't of Brazil will build will be better (cleaner/safer) than the squatter dwellings that are stacked miles high, just waiting for a Haiti-style-earthquake disaster to strike.
From what I saw in my time in Brazil and Haiti they are both equal in construction quality for most residential buildings. Brazil is FAR better than Haiti in quality of construction when professionally builtprojects are done! But most housing in Brazil and Haiti is built one clay block at a time by the dweller, with little understanding of proper construction techniques.
I can't imagine the constraints you must be under with this project, Edson, but I wish it all success. I, too, hope that it will be well lit, and safe. This type of open ground concept has been done over and over and over, and I know you've done your research, so... I wish all the best.
Thanks all, small update to make the model a tiny bit more true to life...
I'm usually more of a Calatrava fan, but this is my favorite Meier building.

Didier - any idea where we can find this Layers_materials.pdf that teaches how to use the plugin?
I have searched all my archives and had no luck in finding it, sorry.
@floric,
my apologies, but I'm really not sure. With Twilight making this is somewhat effortless.
Tomasz may be able to answer this question in the SketchUp section of the Kerkythea forum.
Thanks Martha.
As the title of the thread points out, this is designed by Richard Meier... and is a built project.
I'm certain the real church wouldn't let this much sun in.
Thanks Alessandro, and Honolulu,
Please try link again, seems to work fine.
