I gotta admit that upon the first look at the page I too thought Kerkythea was no longer going to be supported or be free. It looks like that's not the case, and I sincerely hope that they will be able to provide updates and support for the free engine. Heck, if TR is affordable, I'd buy it - but I can't even afford SU pro...

RE: Airplane Study
Heh, I was thing that the model had the semlance of T-6, F6F or F8F aircraft. Pretty neat, very nice work with the modeling! Actually, it looks like there's a little Gee Bee racer mixed in there too...

is this SU output? (as in, no external renderer)

props!Should I groan now?

RE: Candle render Challenge (all render engines)
I'd love to enter this challenge; but darnit, my windows PC took a dump yesterday(watch out for the latest nVidia system drivers, at least on the 780i) due to corrupted USB drivers and I can't get into the comp at all thanks to only having USB mouse and keyboard.
Not to mention my monitor picked today to die.
Complaints, I has them! Don't close the challenge yet
! That is, unless there's a way to get Sketchup working on my Linux laptop!

RE: Candle render Challenge (all render engines)
Maybe this is obvious, but does it need to be modeled in SU?

RE: Exporting DWG files from SU Free
Hmm, when I've tried renaming a .kmz to .zip and extracting it, I get a kml.doc - no directories.

RE: Exporting DWG files from SU Free
Is this for a different version of SU than #7? I cannot find a way select what version of GE to save the file as, only what version of SU I want to save it as.

RE: SU8 - WISHLIST
I figure the cost of server upkeep and bandwidth would be a prohibitive issue. Any costs generated by that would be passed on to the users somehow if Google didn't eat the cost themselves.

RE: 1918 Spanish Flu resurrected?
The 1918 flu was worse. Already there are articles out indicating that this flu isn't as bad as they thought. The 1918 flu killed hundreds of thousands, even without the modes of rapid transportation we have today. What this flu has in similarity with the 1918 flu is that it can kill young and healthy people, which is different from the regular flu which normally is dangerous to elderly, already ill people and very young children.

RE: District 9
I'm all for some new SciFi flicks, there haven't been too many good ones of late. But then, I consider good to be like "Serenity" or "Alien". That "District 9" movie seems to be a mashup of "Independence Day" and a few others. Doesn't mean it'll stink... I'll reserve judgement.

RE: SU8 - WISHLIST
Along with "me too" for everyone else's suggestions, I'd like to see the ability to arrange and rename plugins and tools in the drop down menus. While SU is a good program, it's the community generated plugins that really push it over the top and make it great. I'm sure many of us have downloaded scads of them, it'd be nice to be able to put all the render engines together, line tools together, import/export tools, etc... You get the idea.
The ability to have an cutomizable menu like Maya's space bar menu or Blender's right click menu would be nice.

RE: Arrange plugins?
Thanks for the link.
I'll have to decide if my being annoyed with having to hunt through my plugins drop down is worth the $6.
I was hoping SU supported some sort of directory arrangement for the plugins without needing to script it.

I think the reason why the caustics are that weak is because the scene is lit by HDR.
Sun light would definitely show more caustics imo.I think you have it there. Multiple light sources seem to have washed them out. If the scene was rendered with those glasses in sunlight, I'm sure they'd throw some nice caustics.

Arrange plugins?
Is there a way to arrange plugins or tools in SU? I searched the forums and it came up as a wishlist item for SU7, but that's all. To clarify, I want to arrange how the plugins and tools are arranged in the drop down menus, I'd like to be able to group them differently.

RE: Glass Challenge (all render engines)
I see some refracted light on the tabletop, especially on the rear-most glass.

Oh man, make that X 2.
Thank you for the explanation, I can now look back on many wasted hours.

RE: Follow this - crash
Sorry to jump in but I happened across this thread and have a question.
You don't need to use the follow me cursor along the entire distance to make the face follow the edge you want?
I tried to follow your directions Tig, it seems like you're saying that I could select the face and edge and then select the "follow me" icon in SU and it should follow the edge automatically. It does nothing, so I guess I'm totally misunderstanding what is being said here...
