i am patient. the reason i need the virtual machine is to update my web site which was done in yahoo sitebuilder, only available for PCs. i was doing it by running windows under bootcamp but, since bootcamp is now part of Mac OS 10.5, the old version has expired and i have to find another solution to upgrading the system which i will only do when all the apps i use run smoothly under it.

why instead of a corner bar mugshot gallery don't you all create avatars with your mugshots? it seems to me to be the simplest alternative.

for what it is worth: video #41 at http://go-2-school.com is exactly on tileable and seamless textures. it is worth a look.

i tend to work with very few elements; anything that is not essential is eliminated. this demands very good craftsmanship and this time i got it.

you are both absolutely right. there is no mystery or secret in my example. once i learned what SU could for me i realized the same static diagrams i always did to explain my projects could be made more interesting with translucent boxes and colors. animation was a further improvement.

what those people want cannot be taught in SU training. you are offering to teach them HOW to model with SU while they are asking you to teach them WHAT to model. the content of their models must be provided by them, not you.

yes, solo, it would have been funny.

in a way, the "wood" used in this project is a kind of render as everything was made out of MDF faced with a wood laminate.

as an aside, before the carpenter started working, the know-all client decided to change the colors of the counter. what he chose came out awful so he had to ask us to revert to the original idea (wood on white). hehe, sweet revenge for once!

perhaps what they mean by asking you to teach conceptual architecture is for you to teach them ways to do schematic and diagramatic representations, as if one was sketching, as it were, with SU.

the attached image can perhaps explain further what i mean. it is from a competition design i did; its purpose is to illustrate diagramatically the main ideas. actually, it is one of the images that were used to create an animated gif that can be viewed here (click on figure 6).

some time ago i posted some images of a project for the remodelling of the reception area of a local medical clinic (cannot seem to find it either here or at SCF 1).

anyway, i am posting the SU scene and the corresponding view of the built work. it consists of the reception counter, the shelf to the left and the new wooden back wall (which hides a small office).

it came out exactly as planned and shown to the client.

I hate exchanging notes with a nickname with no avatar nor location or any other useful info about themselves. perhaps providing a minimum of information should be mandatory for each new (and old) member. I would bet many people feel like me.

i have been running windows on my mac via boot camp but am getting tired of rebooting every time i need to cross over to the other side.

so i am left with two alternatives (tried crossover and did not like it): parallels and fusion.

as i do not know well either of them i am turning to this board for some advice. does anyone out there have a track record with either parallels or fusion?

what i run on the windows side is a couple of quite simple apps and others like kerkythea which means i need to render images quite often. i am especially interested in knowing how they perform in situations that require a lot of memory and a good graphic card.

my machine is a macbook pro, 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, 256 MB NVIDIA GC.

i am not sure i am a for-real pro but this is how i do 3D modelling of existing stuff: from the plan and using the elevations to get the heights. i learned it from one of the go-2-school videos.

I hope you did not take me the wrong way, as I was in no way being critical of you. of course, all of us at some point have to accept jobs we do not like in order to pay the bills.

to tell you the truth, in brasil it is not that easy for modern architecture to be accepted, strange as it may sound to you. many people are into historicist stuff (other people's history, I am afraid), even tough it has nothing to do with our culture.

by the way, I checked out inscape's website. among several good works I like very much the buchanan st. apts. and the U st. studio.

here is the secret.....download this photoshop plug-in. http://www.optikvervelabs.com/ It works really well and give lots of presets to play with. In fact is is great for images straight out of sketchup. I'll create a few examples later and post them for everybody to see.
