Hence my problem. I have all the snaps turned off, and it still wants to snap to something--no smooth navigation. From the Basecamp workshop it was stated that LO works best on the smaller sheet size, and I am trying to use 18x 24 (which doesn't seem excessive) to me, but nevertheless, pretty agrivating. I don't want to give up on it. LO is a great tool--i am just struggling with it.

      Thanks for the help.

    • RE: Almost to the point of giving up . . ..

One more issue I am having tho'. .. when I wnat to move objects around smoothly it keeps wanting to snap to some invisible geometry or grid. I have object and grid snaps turned off, but that doesn't seem to help. Bubbles, notes, etc seem to snap off in any direction, but they don't move just straight accross the page, inferences don't seem to help. So far, I am not too happy with LO

I am working on an 18 x 24 sheet of paper. When I cut and paste objects into a new file with a standard sheet, it seems to flow fine? is this the problem?

      any ideas?

      Thx,

    • RE: Big File Sizes/ High Poly

i stuggle with this as well. I do a lot of site modeling that requires trees and I like to use 2D cllips as often possible, but for aerial views, I kinda need 3D trees, and the good ones are so High poly. I guess I should play around with Proxies more to simplify and only turn on the biggies when it comes time to render or something, but Any other hints to manage the file would be grateful.

Ps. I havne't done it yet, but I have the link to the 3D basecamp workshop on this. I oughtta listen to it. . ..

      I wasn't invited, you know. . . 😞

I don't us LO a lot and now I know why. Maybe you can help. I am just trying to set up an 18 x 24 sheet to do some standard views. It is deathly slow even at 72 dpi and then the model won't update. I had to bag it and cut in paste in PhoShop.

      Any ideas?

      thx,

I get em all the time. Yeah. . .thanks guys. That was it. Here is a pretty down and dirty attempt, some refinements needed but essentially the plan worked. on the other tiers I just use the same method with a few tweaks. in the basecamp tutorial section there's a tip for this.
The essence is that you can make scenes without camera positions.
This way the scene tab behaves like a display mode.
Per tab you retain full control over displayed layers and such, as mentioned by earlier posts.
      Good luck !

That is excellent. I do that a lot my self. One thing I never use is profiles or jitters. What the heck for? In fact I rarely use "styles" at all, and certainly never when modeling. navigating in Wire mode is always good. Thanks for the tips as well.

    • (req) modeling help.

I am a pretty good skupper but I have got something here that I need some help on. I tried this with the new tools on surface, but it's just not workin' for me and its a bit beyond my capabilities. I need to cut an arc along these complex curves to recreat this spire. I marked in red what I have to do. See attached Working drawing sample. I didn't want to post the skippy cuz I want to do it myself. But I would like some help on perhaps the best approach.

      Thx in advance

    • RE: Is their an individual in you? doubt it.

I used to be very timid about posting on this site. Not because I am a novice SU user--or that I didn't have anything useful to say -- it was just that the community got so Large that I felt that my posts would be ignored and I wouldn't get the answers I wanted so I stuck to the Podium forum. Once I started talking to folks and seeing other guys from the Podium forum, I got more brave and now I feel very much at home here. This is the best forum on the net because it is FUN!!!! Do see my point, besides the one on the top of my head?

as far as Goon's rant is concerned. .. isn't okay if we talk about Batman or something while at the same time seeking answers to our questions about Ruby files or modeling tips. .. isnt' that what we do at the office or anywhere else? That's why it's called the corner bar. . .and it;s only bar I have ever really been in. Have you ever been to any of those "Corporate Forums" like for some big software or computer company or something like that? They are so strictly monitored, unfriendly and dry and yet competely useless as far as help goes--in my oppinion anyway.

Lighten up for cryin' out loud 😍(<<<<crying out loud).. . .it's just a cyber-forum--I come here for help and to have a little fun. And as long as we are courteous and helpful to one another, who cares ? Is there a lot of junk on here. Yes. .. (including this post porbably) Is it sometimes hard to wade thru muck to find an answer? yes. That 's what the advanced search is for. . .but. . . If someone can post a thought that has a little wit attached to it, I appreciate that. That's what I try to do.

besides. .. you guys are my only friends. . .. πŸ˜’

Worked for me too. . it's a great tool, but there is one issue I don't understand about it. How come it leaves some Geometry "Residue" (i.e. tell-tale faces and lines) after running the sweep? Doesn't do it everytime, but it did in this model (jim's) even after playing with the different values and "True/False" options.
