Very nice model Alan. I'm sure the real one looks even better.

Eric, I'm guessing that the crain on the sides of the box run vertically so then the DTs would be in the right place.

Since others have been posting some really cool Christmas card images and I don't have a current one, I thought I'd show the Christmas card I did in 2004. This was within a couple of months of getting SketchUp.Ian and Lights2.jpg

    • Some Furniture and Stuff

Here are a few models I've done. They're all too fat to be used in larger models but I don't tend to draw furniture and other things for that anyway.

A three-vise workbench. I removed the textures to get the file size down.

Hello Charlie. Very nice work indeed. I remember seeing your unique joinery in Fine Woodworking not all that long ago. I was impressed then as I am now. Welcome to the group.

    • RE: Please Welcome Style Builder...

      This is definitely cool. thanks.

I'm curious about something related to the template.png. Is there any reason one couldn't print out the PNG, draw the lines in the boxes and then scan the sheet back in? I was thinking that it could be find of neat to print it on a rough paper so the texture comes through in the lines.

Oh and another thing. Will Style Builder help to get around the crash problems associated with different styles that share characteristics like line styles?

    • RE: Axis Alignment Script

Clark, you're right. In the instance I'm thinking of this would be just fine. I suppose there could be other cases where that might not be desirable. Normally, I keep pretty good control of axis orientation when I am drawing but it sometimes, when I get a model from someone else I spend a fair amount of time straightening out the model before I can actually use it or work with it.

    • RE: Axis Alignment Script

Daiku, yes, I want the component/group axes to be parallel to but not necessarily superimposed. Yes, I could explode each component/group and re-componentize or regroup but then I have to go through the steps to make related components related again.

    • RE: Axis Alignment Script

Maybe I'm working it wrong but it doesn't seem to do what I want.

What I'm hoping to do is reset the axes in all the components/groups in a model to be aligned with the global axes.

Edited to add, here's an example of a model that I would like to modify. It's on the 3D Warehouse. If you turn on the axes under Model Info>Components you'll see that the axes are aligned differently. The global axes in the model are funky, too, but that is quickly remedied.

    • Axis Alignment Script

I did a search and didn't have any luck. Is there an existing script or could one be written that aligns the axes of selected components/groups with the global axes.

I think it would be x,y,z. The red axis is x, the green, y and blue, z.

    • RE: Random Delete?

TIG, that's a neat script. I don't know what I'll use it for but it is kind of fun to make a large array and then run the script watching stuff disappear. I could see using it to create a forest.

If the elements in the array are copies of a few different components, there'd be no problems with loading up the file.

    • Style Thumbnails Question

I've been creating a bunch of styles recently and came across a puzzle. I have one style which shows a normal looking thumbnail image in my New Styles library but if I leave it applied to a model, save, close and reopen it, I end up with a different thumbnail. the lines are shown as very thick lines. This wouldn't be a big problem but if I export a JPG of the image, it goes out with the thick lines. Following are some screen grabs related to it. Is there a way to update the thumbnail so this doesn't happen? I've tried updating the style but that doesn't seem to fix it.

In the first image you can see the difference between the In Model thumbnail, the New Styles Library thumbnail--arrows--and you can see a bit of the drawing in the background.

      http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v506/weekender410/StyleThumbnails.jpg

In the second, you can see the results of a JPG export.

      http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v506/weekender410/LimbertTabletest.jpg

And if I reapply the style by clicking on the New Styles thumb, I get this when I do the export.

      http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v506/weekender410/LimbertTabletitled3.jpg

      Any ideas?

Make what you want to make for you then show it off man. If I were to use this in a job I would probably not modify it a bit. That is unless I were placing hundreds of them, then I might cut the poly count down.

Thanks Eric. FWIW, I do try to keep file sizes down when I make my models. Of course they aren't as small as they could be but they are dimensionally accurate and you could take them apart and make working drawings for your wood shop from them.
